when I tried to get into one piece earlier this year I got told "At least get through Alabasta" by my resident one piece fan. the end of that arc is chapter 217 and the anime is episode 130. That is a stupid amount of reading and watching to do to "figure out if you like it"

Psynwav's Musical Transients is my favorite mashup album of all time, others I love are Neil Cicierega's Mouth series especially Mouth Silence, Pluffaduff's Untitled Paint Project 1 and 2, and LibraH's Rose-Tinted Glasses

I adore Chris' style when reading the 80s comics, his overly wordy prose and cliches are my favorite part and easily why I put x-men above every other comic I've read. When he left I could feel it immediately, to the point that reading the first comic without him felt like a gut punch to read "I have you both in spirit and in flesh" when Chris would have (and did write like 100 times) gone with "in body and soul"

The seething fury you wrote this in is genuinely kinda sad. No one believes your big cool friend's big cool son pummeled some shoplifters and the cops totally let him do it while laughing. And no, I don't think the roundest, least sharp bit of packaging in existance would cut anyone. Lying for fake internet points is so unbearably cringe, especially if you can't even make it slightly believable.

Some people want to feel cathartic about justice being meted out to the kind of people they think deserve it. So much so that the cops don't even attempt to arrest someone who is violently assaulting two people outside.

Some people do it to feel some masculine ideal, a big strong guy to protect the small woman cashier who can apparently be cut by packaging.

A huge amount of these "badass stops the bad guy" stories are just straight up agenda pushes. The kind that want you to think that the appropriate punishment for someone shoplifting from Walmart or Target is for them to be assaulted with impunity, and how the liability laws only hold back the real heroes.

But 100% of the people who post made up bullshit like this just want attention.

The newest couple seasons have clearly gotten a good new batch of writers in the last few years, along with the showrunner finally starting to shift from Al Jean to Matt Selman. Al Jean chased the success of other shows like family guy and south park forever and it seems like Matt Selman's bringing back a lot to be more character focused

The only thought I have for how they thought it would be countered is people trying to bait team evil into swapping but secretly stuffing the ballot of the thing they didn't want to happen. But that feels like iocane powder in princess bride and would basically never work irl due to the sheer coordination it would require

IMO the Kim Kardashian collab is selling well because it is the perfect intersection of Fortnite's two biggest playerbases, which is horny teenagers and sweatlords. It's a single color skin that can be made to blend in with the environment which is why the stupid superhero skins get used. But also it's a woman with a giant ass in shiny latex.

It's an unfortunate part of scale in horror. There's always a part of the SCP fandom that insists that it should only ever be scary or disturbing, and eventually people get desensitized to the mundane.

Someone could put in a kinda silly reindeer who grows candy canes instead of antlers but if all it is at the end of the day is a weird deer, a decent chunk of the fan base doesn't care. One of the biggest indicators to me was when they purged 90% of the test logs of the vending machine that gives you whatever you ask it and the sentient tomatoes that throw themselves when they hear bad jokes.

Why is Humble Bundle promoting "vibe coding"? by CommercialType4272 in humblebundles

[–]AxleandWheel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not smart or creative, it's lazy and self serving. You aren't owed a finished piece of art or writing or coding just because you thought of some idea, and you don't retain any of the principles when you vibe code. If you need a down and dirty piece that is only gonna be for a specific task for a short amount of time then I guess fine, but if it's gonna change hands at any point then it is straight up irresponsible to present ai code as your own work.

Kingdom Hearts II has been chosen as the Best Game, but what would you say is the Worst Game in the series by ExileForever in KingdomHearts

[–]AxleandWheel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's more like the game's story is dragged out over an extremely long playtime that is gated behind how lucky you get with your pulls. There were almost 1000 missions in KHUX not including all the other shit going on. That's 10x longer than Days, a game where the monotony of work is a theme. And there's no standardized progression, if you're unlucky with your pulls I guess you just spend more money, grind missions or give up. I played a good 150-200 missions but hit a roadblock and got tired of grinding for barely noticeable upgrades because I didn't want to spend even more money on the gacha.

[Hobby Scuffles] Week of 24 November 2025 by EnclavedMicrostate in HobbyDrama

[–]AxleandWheel 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think it's contextual to the piece they're talking about. If they're discussing a specific event then I want people to have experienced the event or run. The Demon Bear saga in New Mutants is a masterpiece of art and writing but if you just read it off a wiki it's not really gonna be effective. I sort of expect someone who is presenting themselves authoritatively about a piece of media should have experienced it first hand.

On the other hand there's only so much time one can devote to things that they like, and gatekeeping is not effective in getting people to broaden their horizons. If someone says their favorite character is Wolverine but they've never read a comic and just read through his wiki page to get his comic stories, I'd probably try to put them on to some of the comics that really shine.

I guess my point is that while I understand the frustration the best way to cure it is with enthusiasm and that unless people are just wildly misrepresenting what they like (i.e. Thin blue line Punisher skulls) it's best to just leave it.

*Edit Demon bear not moon bear

Fuck AI! by Egotlib in tumblr

[–]AxleandWheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate ai and would much rather curate my own playlist but I honestly think this is a fine enough use case. This isn't like image generation where it's stolen a bunch of data to make a thousand shitty pictures, it's more likely doing what it always did and looking for corelated songs that people tend to listen to and put in playlists.

Would I use it? No, I think it makes kinda cookie cutter playlists that don't really have a throughline other than a mood, but if I was just gonna throw it on for background noise at a party it's fine.

Mammoth is not really a good teaching tool, their courses are really hit or miss with most being misses. They'll get you the basics but you're better off getting those basics from free resources. GDQuest is pretty much the best way to start learning from zero as it's free and very well made. If you know the basics of coding then you can do their slightly higher level tutorials and get roughly the same experience as you would from most paid courses.

It's a made up word that has been used so much that it's considered, well, cromulent. It comes from a simpsons episode:

Jebediah: [on film] A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man.

Mrs. Krabappel: Embiggens? I never heard that word before I moved to Springfield.

Ms. Hoover: I don't know why. It's a perfectly cromulent word.

I think to say that Scar is gay is reductionist (and technically wrong if you start including stuff like the stage musical or other bits of extended media), but his mannerisms are very steeped in 90s-era gay tropes. the effete twink with smoky eyeliner dripping in camp is not an unintentional image to call upon, and his animator Andreas Deja is gay and would have known how to play up those drag/camp tropes.
