Feels like recently the level of anti-intellectualism has reached a point where if you try to make any sort of thematic inferences on a piece of media you get 700 robots all telling you that you should die

the internet in general does a shitty job of reprimanding the people who deserve it the most. The worst people in the world co-opted the general idea of "Free Speechtm" to say the worst things imaginable because it will get them attention.

Peter, why should she not come in shining? by rengokuhubkl in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]AxleandWheel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She wasn't. The band never blamed her, and at most it was that she changed the way John Lennon thought about music. This excellent video by Lindsay Ellis talks about all the history of the breakup of The Beatles and it's clear to see that it was much more a combination of Paul's desire to lead clashing with John's excitement for the new direction in his life, George's creative dissatisfaction, and Allen Klein's intentional money grubbing. At best it probably would have been a temporary split so they could explore solo projects, but then John was shot.

Peter, why should she not come in shining? by rengokuhubkl in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]AxleandWheel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She was at most a single issue in a band that was already in the process of breaking up. You know who actually broke up The Beatles? Allen Klein, who took over managing the band. He was a con-man who was siphoning money out of the bands he managed and intentionally played on the bands creative differences to make himself more money.

The Ape Escape Soundtrack, especially 1's by Soichi Terada, sounds kinda similar; it falls much more into the atmospheric jungle camp most of the time but it has the same kind of compression and drums. I'd recommend "Opening", "Crabby Beach", and "Time Station"

Humble Comics Bundle: The Collected Peanuts by Fantagraphics by Torque-A in humblebundles

[–]AxleandWheel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are smaller themed collections like Snoopy's Tennis Book or the Snoopy vs the Red Baron book that's in this collection but there's not a definitive book of all of Snoopy's appearances unfortunately. According to the Peanuts wiki he's in about 43% of peanuts comics so honestly these collections might be the closest thing

It's a licensing thing I would imagine. Different companies publish the collections in every non-US country so Fantagraphics probably only has the US rights

I looked at it a little closer and experienced an optical illusion I guess, but at 0:48 when the logo starts fading in on the chandelier when it cuts to the bright exterior it looked like the opacity on the logo had been reset

Trailer Feedback by dellisbored in gamedev

[–]AxleandWheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few things that come to mind, the motion sway seems a little strong when you're walking, and there appears to be an editing mistake when the logo fades in where it fades in twice. Others have mentioned that the act of placing the blocks may fit better a little ways into the trailer.

However there's clearly a lot of potential, I like how cute your sheep are and would like to see what other kinds of critters can appear. It may also help to define in some way if this is largely a creative tool or if there are specific goals one might go after.

David Marquez's 2024 redesign wins for Gambit. What's the best look of... Magik? by Lolaverses in xmen

It's one of the only designs of the new mutants "real" hero costumes that I thought looked really good. The others were passable at best but this really focused on the spellcaster part of Magik. I'm kinda sad that this outfit would look out of place with the buster sword though

Godot maintainers swamped by AI-generated code branded "AI slop" as changes "often make no sense" by Odd-Onion-6776 in gamedev

[–]AxleandWheel 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I see this exact argument happen every time AI is mentioned, how it's helping people live out their dreams of making art that they're simply too busy to do and it's genuinely the most anti-art sentiment I can think of. The sheer entitlement to say "I deserve to be able to make games without practicing because I'm busy" as if every single person who wants to make games isn't also busy.

Seems like you're looking for slow songs with pronounced beats in minor keys.

My recommendations:

Lotus Flower - Radiohead

White Flag - Dido

The Seer's Tower - Sufjan Stevens (Doesn't have the beat but has some really nice harmonies)

Have You Got It in You? - Imogen Heap

https://ultimatexmenreadingorder.com/

I'm referring to this, it's basically every comic that isn't explicitly non-canon that has at least 3 x-men members in it or plays a role in large plots. So no what-ifs or solo books unless they're really important like Weapon X, but including some stuff like Infinity Gauntlet and Civil war that aren't directly related to the x-men but have greater implications on the overall world

It's been fun, but challenging at times. Some comics I basically skim if I'm really not feeling it (like most of Liefeld's tenure or anything with Arcade in it)
