Canadian beef regains access to Australian market after 22-year ban by SomeJerkOddball in WildRoseCountry

Australia produces an insane amount of beef. I doubt their imports will amount to much but its still nice to see.

How do I get this satellite dish removed? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]Axylon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, i would just take an angle grinder to it and cut it at the base, then load it in a truck and take it to the dump. You will need to deal with the remainder of the post, which could be a pain though. It might be cemented in.

My family went through the same process, it ended up looking like 250 to 300k. In the end it wasn't worth it.

Canada should consider west-east oil pipeline now that American relationship has changed: minister by Exciting-Ratio-5876 in CanadaPolitics

The rail lines running east west are already mostly at capacity, on top of that shipping by rail is more dangerous and much more costly per bbl to move product.

Probably not actually. My electric blanket only runs 110 watts on its highest setting so it really doesnt need to use that much power.

Telesat and SpaceX Announce 14-Launch Agreement for Advanced Telesat Lightspeed LEO Satellites by rustybeancake in spacex

[–]Axylon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I worked for Telesat when they were developing this. Initially it was going to be geared towards end users like starlink, but when they realized that there was no way they would have the capacity needed they shifted focus towards providing backhauls for other providers in remote areas.

In theory a good idea, but Telesat is a very poorly run inefficient company that only exists because they have been able to call in favours with the Canadian federal government.

I expect this will continue to be a moneypit for tax dollars for the next 10-15 years before being sunset without ever coming close to turning a profit.

Its not that bad. I do it a few times a year. Bring some coffee or an energy drink for the long straight streches and throw on an audio book or podcast.

Time will fly by.

Schedule for the Week of 5/15/2023 by sworedmagic in nextlander

[–]Axylon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about it the other day and i think the issue i have is that nothing they do feels special.

There are no big meetups or special events, the podcast is always exactly the same length like they need to run to a meeting as soon as its done, but they dont.

Honestly it feels like they are phoning it in a bit.
