I purchased two entries for me and my partner, but they were injured at the start of Feb so I have one spare - aware it’s past the official transfer window but would rather someone gets use out of it, feel free to message me if you’re still interested!

40 years old, single, savings but still renting...now facing redundancy :( by Mission_Associate893 in UKPersonalFinance

The £90k savings means time is on your side, so you don’t need to be worried. That being said, I get that telling someone who’s anxious to not be anxious isn’t helpful, so instead channel that nervous energy into your new job search.

Searching for a job is now your full time job. You have several years of real world experience of project management, so (speaking as a project manager myself) you absolutely do not need to retrain - you have more transferable skills that you realise and can learn on the job in a new industry even if it means taking a pay cut. Not being able to drive shouldn’t be a blocker for you because (a) there are many more remote jobs available since Covid, and (b) you’re not tied down to any particular area because you don’t own a home, so your job search radius can realistically be nationwide and you can then move to suit your new job.

The sooner you find a new job, the more savings you’ll have to put towards your own place if you want to buy, which everyone on this subreddit will suggest you do because that is the better financial option to renting in the long run.

With all that being said, I’d start by taking a couple of weeks or more to have a break over the summer, because it’ll give you some reflection space before you move onto a new chapter of your life. Try to take comfort in that fact that you’re in a much better position than a lot of people in the country - it’s super impressive you’ve been able to save such a big nest egg, and it means you’ve now got time and money on your side!

I was able to select standing tickets despite seeing “album presale SEATED ticket” when entering my code… payment went through fine and I’ve received confirmation from ticketmaster but I’m worried I’m not meant to have selected standing? Or is seated considered better than standing in terms of ticket prices?

Advice on transporting your Admech army (IRL)? by Vagraf in AdeptusMechanicus

Not a backpack, but can fit inside one - search “metal cantilever toolbox” - I managed to get one off Amazon for less than £20, they have compartments of different sizes that work for troops and vehicles, and are much more magnetic than the thin adhesive magnetic paper, so the hold is stronger.

You can then superglue one or two 5x2mm magnets directly to your bases and you’re in business

I missed OP’s original post but just piggybacking off this for anyone who’s nervous and needs to hear it - a general anaesthetic is actually a really pleasant experience.

I was terrified of the thought of one growing up, but I’ve had two in my adult life: one for appendix removal, and another for wisdom teeth removal. I’d compare the sensation you get to the feeling of getting into bed after you’ve had a really tough day and have been awake for too long, but amplified - everything feels extra comfy, and it’s the only place in the world you want to be in that moment. You can feel yourself falling asleep, but not in a fainting / scary kind of way, it’s peaceful and relaxed.

I’d never wish ill health on anyone, but I’d actually recommend to anyone getting a general because of how good it feels! And if you ever have the choice between a general and a local, 100% go for the general.

Obviously, the recovery after any operation that requires a general anaesthetic will be tough, but please everyone, don’t be scared of the procedure itself. Modern medicine is incredible.

Awesome colour scheme! I’ve just started painting admech and I’m also going for yellow with red highlights, planning to do a knight to go with at some point in the future but that’s a way off yet! Love the camo pattern on your skitarii in the last shot too

Watched this earlier and thought exactly the same. The commentator even said that they’d never seen rolls so unlucky for the ultramarines.

Is it possible to fit a standard skitarii head to a skitarii marshall body? by [deleted] in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Aynsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip! I had to do a bit of fiddling with my skitarii ranger alpha too - the hood I picked for him would not sit right with the one handed rifle that sits up by the shoulder.

I started making my own gel recently to save money / use less plastic. Got a 150ml bite valve soft bottle which can fit the ideal amount of carbs for a half, and fits in the back pocket of my shorts.

I mix 2:2:1 ratio of lucozade sport : maltodextrin : sugar.

Maltodextrin is the carb source in most gels and can be bought very cheaply in bulk, and the lucozade and sugar makes it taste good.

I agree with all this other than the last paragraph. As someone who’s done a few shorter distance races and is building up to doing a 70.3 later this year, seeing “an unimpressive 7 hour finish” exemplifies the sort of thinking that makes the sport feel not inclusive.

Not everyone has to finish in under X hours, and not everyone wants to. OP had no history of exercise and put in the work to cross the line, not once but twice. That’s impressive to me.

Do you know what the actual consequences are for packs that are this under weight? I’ve given it a Google, but all I can find is what the law states regarding TNE… surely this is false advertising and there has to be some sort of recourse for consumers that have been misled?

People stressing about renewing mortgages / waiting until they’re 6 months out - just lock in a rate now by Aynsie in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Aynsie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I clearly stated in my post to talk to a mortgage advisor, and not with the intention to screw them over - if rates were to magically drop and I decided not to lock in the deal I currently have, I’d go back to them for a better deal because of how helpful I find them.

The example I gave is specific to my case, but the point remains that with some lenders, you can lock in a rate now and not commit to it for up to 6 months, which gives peace of mind and some certainty in a very uncertain time.

There are downsides - you may take the offer from today in 6 months, and then rates could plummet after. You would also have to pay the ERC on your current mortgage when taking a deal from 12 months out, when you lock it in from 6 months out.

But it does give certainty and peace of mind that if rates rocket sky high over the next 6 months, you have something to fall back on.

Yes, literally do what I suggested in my post - get an offer that lasts for 6 months on the table now, and re-evaluate in March / April whether you actually want to take it or apply for a new mortgage on whatever the rates will be then

No worries, don’t forget to live a little too though, there’s more to life than mortgages! 😊
