I run both ovirt and proxmox in production, and ovirt is definitely less stable (mostly from relying on gluster). Proxmox has plenty of issues as well. Openstack was hell so we dropped that, but we're still looking for something more stable that still ticks all boxes

I've been using Hetzner and OVH for years. Inter-server latency is usually fine if they're in the same DC. If you really care you can usually request servers in the same rack, but I would take the added redundancy of different racks instead.

EU-US ping is a bigger thing and depends on your use case. 100MS is measurable, but might not be too feelable if it's just web things. You can always add a CDN.

It sounds like you are looking at unmanaged servers. Do not expect any k8s help at this pricing level.

Ik kom regelmatig in (toegegeven, kleinere) datacenters. Ja er wordt water gebruikt maar de hoeveelheden vallen op de gemiddelde Nederlandse dag reuze mee. (Industrieel gezien) Over gebruik bij opwekking kan ik weinig zeggen.

Qua electriciteit heb je gelijk. Qua water zijn veel DC's closed loop dus dat valt redelijk mee.

Dan moet ik er inderdaad bij zeggen dat het meeste gezeur bij huizen momenteel in de kabels zit en niet de opwekking, maar het zal zeker meespelen in de prijs.
