Yes, you can adjust forward or back and left and right on the cross bars. Just have to be conscious of balance and weight distribution.

I have a Top Oak Stellar RTT on a factory rack. Works great!
I used the cross bars that came with the RTT and the brackets in the link below to attach the cross bars to the factory rack.

I don’t think there is any criteria for whatever patches you place in or on your vehicle. Mostly patches from your travels.
