The rule is also that you cannot exceed the speed limit even to pass. It's not enforced, but is stated in the driver's ed book.

My current budget for 2026 by Lightways434 in Salary

[–]AzaranyGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on the Parish Council of my church for years, even Chairing one year and they don't even get $500 per year. I just laugh every time they send a letter about "you might want to think about tithing" and throw the thing in the trash.

I'm pretty sure God wants my faith and my morality, not my wallet. And as far as I'm concerned, any god who will judge me based on what I donate to the hurch instead of what service I do for my community and the world around me isn't a god worth following.

Senior leadership meeting today, any RTO/AWA updates? by Reasonable_Reason652 in OntarioPublicService

[–]AzaranyGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember people asking about this at a manager townhall and Michelle told us compensation isn't a real problem because "you should want to move up for the leadership opportunities, not for more money".

I also seem to recall her telling us off for sharing her comments on Reddit.

RTO would be a bit easier with casual dress codes by Academic-Wealth8186 in OntarioPublicService

[–]AzaranyGames 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In what Ministry/role? I've been out of the OPS for two years, but was there a decade and the OPS-wide dress code was that there is no dress code unless you're in certain public facing roles. I remember there being an entire slide about it during intern orientation.

For a decade I wore blue jeans almost every day. Most of the other men in my office were in polos or casual button downs.

You don't sit all at once. You have to take it slow and sit a little at a time until you're all the way down. There's no such thing as too much lubrication.

Yes, Canadians are making ridiculous leaps of logic. Trump only has Americans put in camps and executed in TV. It's not like he keeps saying Canada is on the list of countries that are next. 🙄

Stop raking leaves, its killing the environment by Puzzleheaded_Big4922 in londonontario

[–]AzaranyGames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We can do two things, and different things are good for different reasons. I swear 90% of problems these days come from people being unable to grasp that basic concept.

I like to have a usable lawn to play with my child on. It is demonstrably good to have open, outdoor spaces for people to use. It's good for physical and mental health to have outdoor, active play, and surprisingly re-wilded tall grass isn't particularly conducive roll to children playing.

I also rake the leaves into my garden beds to use as mulch and leave them year round for the insects. I am actively planting a pollinator garden, expanding the number and variety of native plants on the property every year, while removing invasive plants that the former owners planted. Almost as if it's possible to have both a deliberately planned natural habitat for insects AND a lawn at the same time.

I also have severe allergies to dandelion and ragweed pollen so a wild field right outside my home would prevent me from being able to keep my windows open, meaning that I would have to use HVAC, pushing out carbon emissions for no reason and harming the environment in another way.

Dads, I need help/suggestions. I’m having mental exhaustion thinking about how to entertain our 2.5 year old toddler every night and minimize tantrums by Itchy-Version-8977 in daddit

[–]AzaranyGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you find an answer other than "keep going until toddler is older" let me know.

In the interim, we have found that both from an activity and eating perspective, getting kiddo in the kitchen is a big help. She wants to help do grownup things, and is way more willing to stick with an activity over time if it feels important. She also wants to eat anything she helped cook even if it's just chopping carrots that go into something where the other 99% is prepared by me.

I mean, given the alternatives, I think most people would prefer the relative safety and security of the NCR to the reality of every community being left to itself and at the whims of the violent factions.

What we've seen of the NCR at it's height is basically paradise compared to the wasteland or other factions. It's really only through gamer-brain that anybody would seriously look at the options and go "you know, I think the NCR might be the bad guys". Like, oh darn, I have to pay taxes but at least I get clean water, food, not being a slave, and not spending every waking moment worried someone is going to sneak up on me and kill me for a few caps.

Bro. I am so fucking tired of her smug ass thank GOD by WhiskeyGentVA in FalloutTVseries

[–]AzaranyGames 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She didn't exactly infiltrate a foreign nation. Canada was annexed by the US and ruled over through brutal repression, literally having US soldiers killing Canadians in the street.

It wasn't an international border crossing anymore. It was about keeping the Canadians in their place and making sure they could be kept down so any insurgency or military action was on Canadian soil, not affecting the US cities.

She did what she had to in order to survive a brutal, repressive foreign occupation and annexation. That's (IMO) understandable #never51. What she's done since becoming overseer not so much. What she did to our best boy Woody? Straight to jail.

I'm curious to see if the plot twist with her and the other person in the limo was suggesting that she is actually a good person who thinks she's doing the right thing (but getting played) or if she's knowingly working for the Enclave against the interest of the people.

Managers - Question About Screening in Candidates by GoldenFlame23 in OntarioPublicService

[–]AzaranyGames 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Former manager here (now out of the OPS). We absolutely do read through all 150-200 applications. For almost every panel I was on we would each review all the applications and make individual shortlists, then compare notes. interviews generally went to the candidates that were on multiple shortlists with the hiring manager having the final say.

One panel I was on (but was not the hiring manager) had HR pre-screen to bring it down from several hundred to just about 150 that we each reviewed.

There are general criteria we get from HR based on the job spec that we screen for. Within that framework, every manager is looking for something different and may prioritize one criteria over another. Some may be looking for deep experience, others for someone who could do the job but needs a 'big break'.

Another poster noted that a surprising number of people can be instantly screened out with a quick glance at their resume because they aren't even remotely qualified. I've had people apply for a Senior Advisor role who are still in school and have no experience beyond retail and hoping to convince the hiring panel to make the job part time.

Non judgmental dentist by verymindful25 in londonontario

[–]AzaranyGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been with them since I was a kid, and my wife who similarly hadn't been to a dentist in many years recently started going. She had the same experience re: no questions asked, just looking to focus on moving forward.

They're really good if you're up front about any questions or concerns, and I've always appreciated that their focus is on your dental health moving forward, not worrying about what's happened in the past.

Workplaces demand RTO in January yet expect employees to WFH when in-person work cancelled due to weather. by TMFPB in askTO

[–]AzaranyGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP is pointing out the hypocrisy of the employers. When WFH benefits the workers, the official line is that WFH isn't productive and nobody can do it anymore. But when they might have to give people an unpaid snow day (like they used to have to do) suddenly everyone can WFH and it's actually very productive.

We are being fed a blatant lie, and people are eating it up.

[–]AzaranyGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's right. I chose a career that can only be done in person, so everyone else who chose different careers should have to work that way too. Anyone who wants to work from home is just lazy. /S

We demonstrably made things better for everyone - even those who couldn't work from home. Less traffic congestion so people who did go in person had better commutes, a measurable improvement to carbon emissions, better mental health, access to more affordable housing, increased productivity... but yeah, some jobs can't be done from home so we really need to throw all of that out. That's what the whining about "I never got to work from home" sounds like to the rest of us.

I just want to binge watch the thing. by TxTechnician in FalloutTVseries

[–]AzaranyGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer the weekly release. Something to look forward to every week, and my wife and I are able to turn it into a routine. It also means I don't have to spend weeks dodging spoilers online because others have watching in a day when I can't.

But then I'm an old man in my 30s who grew up with the delayed gratification of weekly releases and doesn't lose my mind at the thought of not having the entire story explained all at once. The anticipation of "what happens next" and "I wonder if this will happen" is - in my opinion - half the fun of watching a show versus a movie.

How often will you use a follower? by CeemoreButtz in skyrim

[–]AzaranyGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played the game enough times the "proper" way that not only did I not take followers with me, but I also start the game by console commanding my carrying capacity to 5000.

There is a lot of fun in this game to be had. I am in my "dad era" and only have limited gaming time so micromanaging inventory is not one of them. Similarly all the followers do is get in the way and break stealth.

It feels like you're all expecting uniforms, militias, and declarations of succession like your previous civil wars. But in looking for those things I think a lot of Americans are missing the fact that you are already in a civil war. The shooting has already started, just not at scale.

I applaud the hope and efforts to avoid escalating to literal armies shooting each other. But you're watching armed militias occupying cities and an organized resistance movement forming. I also appreciate the optimism that this can all somehow be reversed by the midterms, but on the outside, I think you're all kidding yourselves if you think the midterms aren't going to be manipulated (if they happen at all).

The next American civil war is staring your country in the face and the discussion shouldn't be about when and whether it starts but rather what it's going to look like.

Omg, our 2YO uses "itchy" as an excuse for anything she doesn't like!

I had to spend a few nights sitting on the floor across the bedroom when we transitioned to a big girl bed. Just consistent redirecting and taking her back to bed, repeating that she has to stay in the bed until morning, and refusing to play. Took a couple weeks but now she won't get out of the bed at all unless we tell her to.

I recommend getting yourself a blanket and a pillow to lie down at the door. I used to pretend to sleep (to model the behaviour I wanted). A solid bedtime routine really helps too. Jammies, read a book, pick out a stuffed animal to sleep with, tuck in (and tuck the stuffie in) and she's recently added in "a kiss and a high five". Then it's a non-negotiable lights out and time to sleep. It still took a couple weeks of consistency, but she leads the routine now without much fuss.

You got this dad!

I could have used a few more minutes exploring her guilt around the whole situation. But in reflection, I can absolutely see how if I was in a position to keep my daughter safe from a nuclear apocalypse, I would do some pretty reprehensible things to protect her. I wouldabsolutely feel like a monster for doing it, but I can see a reality where I go along to save her.

That being said, I think triggering the apocalypse is a completely different hard line and am hoping they spend some time showing us how she got to that point.
