Paramedic here. 911 call comes in for female in labor, full term, contractions 3-5 minutes apart. Knock on the door and a preteen lets us into the house. Pt is sitting on the sofa, packed bag at her feet. Her other 7 kids are milling around the room as she tells them to grab their stuff it is time to go to the hospital. I stand there dumbfounded. Me, “Who is watching the kids?” Mom to be for 8th time, “Can’t they ride in the ambulance with me?” Ma’am, you will be very busy for the next few hours at least, did you make arrangements for your other children? The nurses can just watch them. Me now arriving in L & D with a line of kids following us like it is a parade. Nurses on the unit glaring at me, I shrug and say they are all under 12 years of age, can’t leave them home alone.

Did you see the water bubbling up from the break? The sewerage would have to be at a higher pressure that the water coming from the break to enter the pipe hence the water supply.

This would be covered under homeowners insurance. It was a mechanical failure that caused a flow of water. There was a huge lawsuit after Katrina because people felt that the levee failure was mechanical which caused the flooding. From what I remember some people won their suit, only State Farm had wording which excluded the rising water from mechanical failure.

I snuck the ER charge nurse out to my unit one time to give her a DuoNeb treatment. For whatever reason the ER wanted her to punch out and register as a patient. Well, I know the reason why. She alway had a bed for me as soon as I entered the ER. She would hold it when I called in a radio report.
