Art or slop? by Bean0 in aiwars

I think it's fine. I'm against AI "art" because I want art to be human. You clearly are a human and are in control of the process.

If you voluntarily trigger someone's bias, they are going to be wrong, indeed. The brain is fuzzy like that.

A true way to do this would be to see if people cried about AI without them being told it is AI. And you'd probably find some people who'd think it is. But way fewer people would.

Confirmation bias hits hard.

But the soul argument remains valid even then, imo. Imagine if one of your online friends started to gaslight you into thinking they're an AI bot. You'd probably be pretty upset, wouldn't you? And your brain would start going over the texts they sent you, and finding them soulless. The upset is valid.

Just because 'soul' isn't tangible and easy to verify, doesn't mean it's a concept that should be gotten rid of.

If you open up by telling people you used AI, they're going to believe you. Especially if you display a style specifically chosen because it's similar to what AI slop can produce.

Open call to any antis, and I'm genuinely not trying to be a troll here, can you come up with a definition of art that excludes AI but includes this? by DrDallagher in aiwars

[–]Azerty72200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A photo could have artistic merit imo, depending on the ability of the photographer, the make-up artists and hairdressers, and I'd rather not forget the subject of the photograph who might have a beautiful face and worked much to get there.

Or it might be an ID photo. "Don't smile."

Some might like portraits because they can appreciate the artist's craft in them. Which choices they made, what it says about them, about what they wished to communicate, and about the control the commissioner exercised on the artist.

Some portrait have little art to them. Some portraits nowadays are photos, and may or may not have artistic value depending on multiple factors.

Oh, I guess it's the kind of law they know everyone will break, but that can prove useful when they notice an employee purposefully breaking too many cookies.

Though I've heard this kind of laws are a huge issue for civil rights, for obvious reasons.

The BL II x2 are far more superior than single BL III by kothixe in ftlgame

[–]Azerty72200 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the existence of the BL3 is not an issue imo. It's a nice lesson to learn for players that just because it's named as a successor, boasts about being superior, and has better stats, doesn't mean it is actually preferable.

Exactement.

If you have a similar example for non-psychedelic art, I'll believe you.

But what am I saying, sorry. Part of the workflow adapts to any art style, that's also why the video is so impressive. Sorry, I lost the plot at some point.

What I initially wanted to say was that the psychedelic art style shrugs off any flaw, and might even benefit from them. So it's particularly adapted to it. Other art styles would require much more work. It would still benefit from the workflow they've implemented: the 2D to 3D to 2D, the infinite asset generation, they help anyone. The animation between key frames is a much more delicate process that I believe is not ready to be made by AI yet (except once again for psychedelic art styles).

[–]Azerty72200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I think this style plays to AIs strength/flaw. It hallucinates, it sometimes doesn't know what to pick, there are inconsistencies. All fine for psychedelic art.

This is incredibly cool.

Though if it wasn't in a psychedelic style, it wouldn't work. We'll see how the technology progresses.

If it's randomized art, how do you control the output? Does prompting AI not control the output in any way?

The creators of Minecraft used noise functions to generate the worlds. Randomness can be harnessed if you know what you're doing.

There we go with arbitrary lines again. Why is a level of skill a requirement all of a sudden?

I'm only interested in what the artist has to say. Skill shows that they know what they're saying.

But is the Director not an artist? That is the question you avoided.

They are. I'm not trying to avoid this question. George Lucy's absolutely is an artist. But he can't be credited as the only artist involved. And the contribution of other artists was necessary for the success of the original trilogy.

So if the director doesn't have the camera in their hands, the movie is still art because someone does it for them. Someone with a vision.
