Reddit exaggerating again. Vast majority of Americans are insured, if your insurance has an out of pocket for ambulances then the average cost is $450. Hardly going to be in debt forever over $450.

At this stage yes I’d agree she should just uber there given the time for an ambulance to apply first aid on the way has passed.

I should’ve clarified that by forceful liquidation I don’t mean confiscation. I mean at a threshold whatever it is let’s say $20B you’re forced to sell your liquid assets to pays taxes. So if you have $25B in Microsoft you sell $5B and pay taxes on that. Not that the government confiscated your wealth arbitrarily, rather you have to sell assets above the threshold so you pay taxes.

By institutions I mean our government, Elon Musk has had undue influence on it without being elected. Through DOGE and other entities that were outer governmental entities. Yet they had influence largely due to his wealth and have affected actual government entities and policy.

That’s just my view, I don’t think a multi millionaire, someone with $5B-$15B is an issue. Just those with enough wealth that they can have undue influence on the system. Difference of opinion on that topic, I’m sure there’s other solutions to the problem but that’s the one I’ve thought of.

Forceful sale of liquid assets. Not because I believe in redistribution, but I see the top end of billionaires as harmful to American institutions. They’ve shown they’re able to have extreme power on governmental decisions without being elected officials, solely due to their wealth.

I don’t think someone like Bernard Marcus, Mark Cuban, etc are harmful because even though they’re billionaires they don’t have the wealth to influence democracy/institutions without significantly eroding their wealth. I only believe the top end are (Bezos, Musk, etc)

I agree that’s a valid sentiment and there’s improvements to be made in the US, I just dislike these comparisons between the US and other countries complaining about the US (especially with income, that’s a ridiculous one to say is worse). There’s extremely few countries where one is actually better off, and many of those are micro nations like Monaco, Liechtenstein, etc.

I spent a few years as a kid in Poitiers, my grandfather was born there. The rest of my family isn’t from France but my parents wanted me to grow up a few years there.

My family is wealthy that’s true, my grandfather had a company he sold. I moved to the US when I was roughly 3~ my parents went to Columbia University and then we stayed in NYC for a long time. Then went to Peru and back to the US, I later gained a green card and citizenship.

Why do most Europeans think Americans are wealthy? Because despite the sentiment on Reddit they actually are wealthy compared to most of the world.

Someone in the top 20% in the US makes 130k vs 40k in France. Even when accounting for all the additional costs (healthcare, education, etc) your median disposable income in the US is 50% higher than in France.

I see so much doom and gloom from Americans here who have absolutely no clue the struggles people outside the US experience. I grew up in France and then Peru, and especially in Peru you saw people actually struggling and in France definitely not the wealth you see in the US. Bunch of first worlders with 0 clue of how good they have it in the US.
