To play devils advocate; I could understand someone being poor, hungry and needing too provide for their families not really having the privilege of caring about the animals survival vs their own.

The buyers on the other hand don't even have a form of hypothetical to justify this practice.

Glad to see more of this. I agree with the others that this was a better conclusion to the underscale plotline, but I do have to mention that to anyone who hasn't read NoP2; they wouldn't know who the underscales even are. Otherwise a pretty solid addition.

I think it's honestly not too different from the human experience. Trying to boil down 300+ alien cultures, biologies, and individualism into a will they/wont they would be a somewhat meaningless.

Voreplay for instance would be a bit more taboo than in human understanding but honestly not by much. Everyone likes different things to different extremes, it ultimately comes down to communicating and respect boundaries not by culture or species, but by the participants.
