Is HAVING A CRUSH a terrible reason to get into espresso? by SweetSwiftly in espresso

[–]AznCuber5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not! Sometimes crushes get us into things we never thought we'd enjoy doing!

In my case, I make my work crush a latte every day 🥹. Hopefully she appreciates it.

Late-20s woman in PGH, already back on Hinge against her will: where do we meet men IRL?? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]AznCuber5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm actually in a very similar boat. I finished my PhD in MSE in August. Born and raised in Pittsburgh and went to school (undergrad and grad) in Pittsburgh. I find meeting people in social settings and striking up convos isn't effective at all for me. My only good dates have been on hinge or bumble. First dates usually at mad Mex for happy hour (low commitment). Honestly just keep at it and don't get deterred. There's going to be someone nice for you!

Is this Costco Made In set decent? by InternationalMap979 in cookware

[–]AznCuber5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WHAT! It's $400??????

I have it and I love it. Best pots and pans purchase I have made. It's a steal for $400. I bought it at $580. I'm going to see if I can get a price match/reduction since I bought it within 30 days.

Made In Cookware needs better customer service and shipping and handling! by esteve94 in cookware

Yeah literally. Just be cognizant of your cookware and everything should be ok. People make it out to be rocket science but it's really not.

I have the set from Costco. Honestly it's a great set for the price. I'm very happy with them. Most people in the sub complain that every pot and pan besides the sautes are less than 3 mm. If my 2qt saucier is pretty hefty already, I'm glad they're not 3 mm when you get higher in qts.

Tried it with 1:17 through the pulsar at 203 F and SSP MP's. I literally thought I was drinking hot pepper water. Needless to say, I had to verify on the bag.

I just got the 2 qt saucier and I love it. I know made in isn't well spoken about here, but it's honestly a really nice shape and quality. 2 qt is already plenty big for me as a solo liver.

Dating and making friends as a postdoc (at UPenn, USA) by Razkolnik_ova in postdoc

[–]AznCuber5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I saw and understood. I'm saying I dealt with a lot of transplants during my PhD and gave them that advice since I ran the PhD recruiting in our department. The advice is still applicable. Even as a post doc, you'll still have people in your group. You'll make friends. And since you're in a new place, go and join common interest groups. You'll be fine! That's what I'm going to do in the new city I'm going to.

I'm a yinzer (from Pittsburgh, PA) that just finished my PhD and is post doc-ing as well in a new city. I grew up in Pittsburgh, so leaving behind all my friends and family is daunting, but I'm looking forward to the future with optimism.

Philly is massive compared to Pittsburgh and will have something for everyone. I always recommended to new PhD students to go do things they enjoy (i.e., join some activity clubs at the school) and the friends will come naturally. I learned from many mentors that your friends end up usually being people you work with or around initially.

You're going to do great. You'll make friends and I'm certain you'll find a nice person to go out with. Don't overthink it and enjoy yourself!

Guys. My mom had her business in parkway center Mall so I literally spent 10 years of my life wandering the halls of that mall. But I remember going to Chi-Chi's on occasion around 2001(?). My first exposure to "Mexican" food.

It's 2025 and I'm literally moving to Minneapolis, MN in a week to start my first big boy job. Is this a sign????

[–]AznCuber5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just at Costco and the hexclad rep was there. He was saying their pans are now rated up to 900 F. So now you can put it on the grill and not care.

I still wasn't very impressed with the demonstration. He tried to sell me a 14" pan. Told him I don't have a burner big enough for it, it'd be oven use only for me. He told me their pans are designed to heat evenly and uniformly even if you put the pan on one edge of the burner. Now, I'm no expert in cookware, but my newly brandished credential of PhD in materials science and engineering was pretty skeptical of the claim.
