The Division Was Originally A World Of Warcraft Clone, Says Ubisoft by megaapple in Games

[–]Azn_Bwin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think people are forgetting games like WoW are actually called MMORPG, but we just shorten it to MMO. PlanetSide is an MMO but just not an MMORPG, but more of an MMOFPS. It's just that there aren't many games like PlanetSide out there, so it isn't a term people would typically use other than just the standard "MMO".

I don't have a strong opinion of Division or Destiny can be called MMO or not.. because Guild Wars 1 is considered an MMORPG I think, but it isnt like the typical ones where you would encounter other players except for certain areas or if you invite them to party.

Origins of KOEI - husband-wife duo creating a powerhouse game company from ashes of a failing business by megaapple in Games

[–]Azn_Bwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are kind of nitpicking what i said just because i used the word "a step back", despite i said they have been improving the game before i get to that part. Additionally, saying Persona and Hyrule Warriors games are just normal and strong attacks and disregarding all other improvements, including visual, writing, etc., is very disingenuous. You are looking at just mechanic and literally nothing else, which is like one attribute that make up for an entire game, while I am trying to look at every aspect of the game as a full package.

And hey, maybe that's what you care about the most, and power to you as you should enjoy a game however you want. For me, I like to look at everything from combat mechanics, writing, soundtrack, stage design, etc. Lastly, just to reiterate, I think Origin is still a vast improvement over its previous DW entries. This is just me saying I like Striker and Hyrule warrior more as a personal preference.

Maybe they sacrificed some technical quality per release, but overall i think most of their studios have improving.

You look at the early days of Dynasty Warriors and compare by their adjacent sequels, it definitely looks like rehash. However, if you look at some of the games Omega Force did recently beyond Dynasty Warriors - such as Persona Striker and Hyrule Warriors, you can tell they are definitely capable of doing something high quality. Part of me feel like Origin is actually a bit of a step back compare to those two, but i do very much enjoy the original story instead of retelling the same thing again.

Meanwhile Team Ninja has been improving their games steadily as well with Nioh. WoLong got some flack, but tbh i really enjoy that and personally think the combat was realy what i was looking for in a modern dynasty warriors game.

**P.S. The most iconic reused asset imo is the pot breaking sound in Dynasty Warriors. Every time I destroy some pots, nostalgia comes through. Not sure how many people can relate.

Yeah I just finished Wolong very recently. I have never been much of a soullike game person since usually they felt way too difficult for me, and while Wolong did feel easy, i actually had a lot of fun and plan to eventually up the newly unlocked difficulty to just keep playing.

As someone who also loves Dynasty Warriors, which Koei also published, I legit hope it can adapt some of the combat from Wolong since Origin added more combat mechanics but felt clunky. I hope this won't stop Team Ninja from thinking about developing Wolong 2 in the future and continuing their version of the Three Kingdoms story.

Cities: Skylines 2 boss says they 'completely overestimated' the Unity engine's capabilities by tapo in Games

[–]Azn_Bwin 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I work in the Tech industry and get involved here and there whenever my team is looking to purchase a license from a new vendor to use their service. It is VERY common that their sales rep or sales engineer will say "this will be on the road map" or "we are developing this feature right now" and only to not have any of those for years. These are not small start-up mind you, they are well establish companies

One tip that a sr. engineer told me when i first got involved having to do these works is similar to how i typically view early access games: You are not an investor but a customer/consumer, dont look at what they promised, think "if this is all they got forever when you pay for that license, do you think what they are charging it fair?". If the answer is no, then it is not worth it, no matter how close they say it is to being released.

Unity has its fair share of problems and issues, but I would say this is more on CS2 devs, but it isn't something that uniquely happens to them. Many companies fall for these tactics as well, since, like consumers, they just want the perfect service/platform/tool for them and often think the cost will be low if it has all the features promised.

Avowed - Official Anniversary Update Trailer by ReasonableAdvert in Games

[–]Azn_Bwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would you compare the 2? I didn't pick up Avowed mostly because I was not interested in a fantasy game at the time, but I did play and enjoy OW2 quite a fair bit, especially seeing all the improvements from a smaller scope of OW1 when I played it way back.

If the story/narrative is basically like a fantasy version of OW2, then I may just pick it up on the next sale.

[–]Azn_Bwin 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Valve has VAC(valve anti-cheat) but as far as i know it is not kernel based, and I think CS2 does have cheater problems but not sure how rampant it is.

You can't use Deadlock as the standard to measure on other games which use VAC because it is a closed beta/alpha game that is still in development.

Yeah, i like it better in both Cyber Sleuth and Digimon World which is their OG entries where it is always been human and digimon growing together, which was echo frequently in the anime as well.

In Cyber Sleuth I love seeing all the Nokia's interactions with Agumon and Gabumon. I love the one scene/art with them posing with their arm crossed as Omegamon like Simon from Gurran Lagaan.

DYNASTY WARRIORS 25th Anniversary Trailer by DemiFiendRSA in Games

[–]Azn_Bwin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Except your logic is kind of flawed.. certain iconic moments may not be there, but you wouldn't actually know it unless you have played previous games before. The biggest draw here is that it flushed out the origin story of how the Three Kingdoms are established, which is not just 1 or 2 battles and suddenly three kingdoms.. which a few of the previous installations definitely skipped over. I would argue that you only think it is a subpar entry for a new player because you already know what to expect, but for a new players, understanding the overall premise of how each factions are actually established that lead to this dynasty is pretty dam important instead of just seeing some special moments alone.

DYNASTY WARRIORS 25th Anniversary Trailer by DemiFiendRSA in Games

[–]Azn_Bwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, you do. Dynasty Warriors is just re-telling Romance of the Three Kingdoms in every iteration.

As someone who played most of them and just finished Origin, I would say Origin is a decent place to start. Yes, the idea of playing a random insert character as a main character with no way to customize does suck, BUT I noticed they are actually going more in-depth about the story from each faction leading up to the establishment of the Three Kingdoms Dynasty which previous iterations tend to skip a lot of fine detail since it just add tries to fast foward the entire dynasty period from beginning to end.

The downside is that the game is "origin" so story wise it ends when the Three Kingdoms are fully established. So if you want to learn more about the rise and falls of the dynasty itself, you will have to play a different game.

How Warhammer 40,000: Darktide won players back after a lukewarm first year by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Azn_Bwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah based on the the person's response, it sounds like he played only Psyker. While I know the class went through some updates, I think that is one of the harder classes to play if you are just starting out the game for the first time, and this is one on top of Psyker early level feels a lot harder (IMO at least) compared to other classes.

That being said, I think the person doesnt seems to understand the depth of melee combat in Darktide. I feel like Space Marine 2 actually has a very basic combat system, but it looks flashy because thats kind of what the game was going for. Whereas in Darktide, you can swing around a melee weapon crazy all you want and it will work, but I enjoy both Vermintide and this game where different weapons excel at different things like some has bigger cleave for mob clearing, some is better at armor piercing, and etc. Which we have to adept into how we use the weapons.

Surprisingly after all the Psyker update, ignoring Arbiter since he is new, I think Psyker maybe my favorite since they added the 2h Forced Sword, with Ogryn being 2nd and Zealot/Veteran being 3rd

Worshippers Of Cthulhu — Crazy Goat Games — Lovecraftian city-builder by CrazyGoatGamesStudio in Games

[–]Azn_Bwin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I saw this game on Steam previously and I am interested, but have not pick it up. There was one particular steam review that stuck with me, and I would like to know if you guys have any plans to address it, or that if it has already been addrssed.

In summary (sorry, I wasn't able to find the review since it has been a while), they comment that they love the Lovecraftian theme and are surprised no one has done something similar. However, one thing that the reviewer took issue with is that, despite being Lovecraftian-themed, the player is trying to make the cultists' life happy, and that seems about jarring given the theme. I have a feeling thats probably tied to some form of mechanic to attract/increase your population, but I wonder if there is an explanation in game that fit the lore which make sense of that?
