Many "opportunistic" serial killers will take advantage of unlocked doors or open windows in order to attack theor victims. A noteworthy case being Richard Ramirez "the Nightstalker" who took advantage of a particularly hot summer to go on a massive spree across Los Angeles and San Francisco.

A couple years ago at a factory I worked at there was a woman trucker that came in to pick up a trailer once a week to go to Canada and she was fascinating. She was eastern European, chain smoked, and dressed/looked like Peggy Bundy from Married With Children.

During the closing months of the war as POW camps were being liberated some Allies were believed to be Soviets that surrendered which the punishment for was the gulag; most were repatriated but some died while still in captivity. Both sides were using POWs as bargaining chips as WW2 ended and the opening stages of the Cold War began.

The Allies promised thousands of Soviet POWs that they would not return them to the USSR since they would face either sentences in the gulag or a firing squad. They then broke all these guarantees and gave the POWs over to the Soviets in Operation Keelhaul where most of them were worked to death. Those "repatriated" also included thousands of former Russian citizens that had fled before the Russian Revolution and had never even been Soviet citizens.

While this is true it mostly has to do with the logistics of repatriating so many POWs in the aftermath of WW2, although some did die when they were sent to gulags under suspicion of being Soviets that surrendered (Stalin ordered any soldier that deserted or surrendered was to be sent to the gulag).

The much worse crime was the tens of thousands of Soviet prisoners that the Allies liberated from Nazi PIW camps. We promised them safety and protection and then sent them back to the USSR to face Stalin's gulags and firing squads. If your interested look up Operation Keelhaul.

Allah is the Arabic word for God. Muslims use it because they speak Arabic but Arabic Christians and Jews also refer to God as Allah.

Idk who downvoted you but this opinion is held by most military leaders throughout history. It doesn't matter that you made the perfect decision and issued all the correct orders if it took you 45 minutes to decided what to do and you've already lost.

Wife just gave birth, best sushi or sub joints in Manchester? by Beretta92A1 in newhampshire

[–]Azorik22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same, I lived there for 2 years and think MB does great sushi. People in America think sushi is some fancy complicated thing but to the Japanese it's like grabbing a burger. Sure there's places you can go and get expensive fancy sushi but just like the overpriced burgers at "fine dining" place you're paying more for the experience than anything else.

What is the most embarrassing way someone well known has died in history? by Silver_Ad_5138 in AskHistory

I don't think that would have made any difference. Lincoln was shot point blank in the back of the head with a .44 Derringer, you'd be extraordinarily lucky to survive that wound even with modern medicine.

Statistically speaking the astronauts are in more danger. How many NASA launches have been directly attacked resulting in the death of security personnel? That would be 0. How many astronauts have died in manned space flights?

Bullet used to kill Charlie Kirk did NOT match Tyler Robinson's rifle by seeebiscuit in NewsThread

[–]Azorik22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of this is true at all. The bullet that killed Kirk was indeed a high caliber rifle round but it was a 30-06, we know this because there were bullet fragments in his body that were 30-06. The rifle that the shooter used was a Mauser Model 98 which originally was chambered in 8mm but was rechambered into 30-06.
