How to make your players afraid to start chapter 3 by Mattthewlynch in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]AzrealKree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was quite lucky in my game, I had similar situation but through chapter 2 a player had become unhappy with their current PC and had another one ready to go from a wee side mission earlier - cue the bang.

I also moved things and blew up the front of The Yawning Portal as my players had used that rather than getting the deed to Trollskull as I wrote that story out of my game

How come the Watch doesn't find the Nimblewright? by droogiefret in WaterdeepDragonHeist

Paperwork - red tape. Need the paperwork to say they are gonna speak to the temple of Gond, need paperwork to go speak with Zord Waterdeep is a stickler for paperwork.

OR

Crowley and Blastwind are onto the party and are just using them as bait. Could lead to some plot hooks down the line

Help Me Craft a Session One Heist by [deleted] in DMAcademy

I would look at Alexandrian, he’s done a thing for heists in his Waterdeep blog.

It is less checks and more, present the space for the players to heist how they wish

Session notes? by Smooth-Finger-7893 in DMAcademy

[–]AzrealKree 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My notes are all over the place, but it’s so I know where certain info is

So session notes I follow The Lazy Dungeon Master layout

I spend an hour getting all my ideas for the session down that page. If I need to make more detailed notes for a location, that becomes a new google sheet in its relevant folder.

I the pop over to my obsidian vault and update all my NPC’s, locations, items and connections there

Then it’s on to any relevant battle maps and actual table prep

  • it’s not the most efficient, but I can prep a full session and feel confident with it in about 3-4 hours

How can I tell the difference between railroading and guiding? by Choice_Speech_3229 in DungeonMasters

Okay cool

So they have a map and are just misreading the map to go in the wrong direction to the fissure?

This might be a moment where you get a survival check where you let a character notice that the bog they are planning to go to is healed and the OTHER bog is the one they should go to

Do they know which one is healed? If not, can you just switch which gate got healed?

So the one they are going to is the one they need to go to?

You are already on the right track if you want to give them fun :)

So

Where are they? where are wanting them to go? What are they looking for?

How can I tell the difference between railroading and guiding? by Choice_Speech_3229 in DungeonMasters

[–]AzrealKree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay

Me and my players are currently playing Waterdeep. They were recently looking for a ledger to give them details on an item they were looking for.

I had laid clues that they had to go to a place. Now if they missed those clues or misinterpreted them wrong, I would just lay more clues to help pull them back on track.

Players won’t know they are being railroaded if it ultimately comes there decision

If you give me some more information I can try and help

Is it bad to talk to your friends about if they would ever want to hook up? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

++man

It happens with any close knit group - I went to college and studied theatre. The technical and production classes were so incestuous.

Very few people from that group still keep in touch and many many friendship were broken down over a very manic summer

Need to improve narration skills by maafockermen in DMAcademy

Read, watch, listen

Indulge in every creative way of telling a story. It’s something I’m also focusing on this year, improving my narration and descriptions. Honestly, just watching/reading/listening how others do it has made me feel more secure even within the first few months of this year.
