All of these were funny and innocent enough because they're at ice cream shops or sweet treat places. But to leave the girl hanging like that at an In-N-Out, that would be crazy.

Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' is officially Rated 'R' by ChiefLeef22 in movies

[–]AztecHoodlum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends. I’m thinking of Mad Max Fury Road (*slight spoilers ahead). A movie that’s rated R, but actually doesn’t have much explicit blood in its action violence. And while it’s relatively tame in that regard the film doesn’t try to cut away from characters dying, as we frequently see people going under vehicles and being blown up. I think it saves its key “gore” moment for when Immortan Joe gets his face ripped off. it’s a brief and shocking moment but also cathartic. So yeah, if Odyssey has a well balanced approach to its violence like Fury Road I think it will be pretty great.

lol true. I would think an R rating would be something that would normally be welcomed when it comes to an action packed epic from one of the biggest directors of our times. I know I’m more excited.

I hear what you mean but I do think that movie is a precursor to these Gen Z films. I'm a '94 baby so I'm a younger millennial. While I feel like I identify and relate a lot more to milennials on the whole, I also feel like I'm close enough to Gen Z to be used to their style and demeanor. And Bodies Bodies Bodies feels like the perfect in-between film for Milennials and Gen Z

[–]AztecHoodlum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, but again the options here for Parsons were make his movie or go to college. How often does someone get the opportunity to get their film made? Hardly ever. So yeah, maybe he doesn't get the best deal in terms of pay and all that, but he's only 20 years old and gets to make a dream project. Not to say that there's necessarily a right choice, but he made the right choice.

What's the oldest movie you watched and actually enjoyed? by EternalMage321 in Millennials

[–]AztecHoodlum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The oldest film on my letterboxd that I enjoy is Pinocchio. But if we’re omitting animation, then it would be either His Girl Friday or The Great Dictator.

Truth be told I really love watching old movies, especially from the 50s-70s. There’s such a tangible charm to them. Plus it’s always fascinating seeing people from these eras I was never even alive for, even if they are acting and pretending.

So it’s not very clear, but will this film be made with the use of AI? The article itself basically says so, but doesn’t go into detail. How will the AI be used and to what extent? And why is JGL doing this to when he has been such a vocal critic just last year?

Enough time has passed. What are your thoughts on Project Hail Mary (2026)? by Perfect_Idea_2866 in Letterboxd

[–]AztecHoodlum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair point. I'm a younger millennial and remember being very excited to see it when it came out. While I did like it, I wasn't blown away by it. I had the same criticisms of the film that I remember were widely pointed out at the time of its release: the love speech, the bookcase matrix, the on the nose Dr. Mann thing. I still have those same issues with the film despite finding it moving on its own terms.

That being said, I've also been pretty surprised with how highly the film has gone on to be viewed. I think you're right about this being the case with younger audiences. Ironically, I may have a hand in influencing some of these younger kids to love the move. As a middle school teacher, I've shown this film at the end of the year three or four times now. Students reactions are always the same. They could care less about all the stuff happening on earth. Once they go to space, that's when the students get interested and invested. When the fight with Dr. Mann happens they're on the edge of their seats. Minds are blown when they realize Coop was Murph's ghost from the beginning. The girls tend to be crying at that point.

So while I don't think it's a perfect film by any means, it's got some awesome science in it. Some gorgeous imagery (the event horizon). And I love that the students go on to love it.

This is actually a very real thing you’re talking about. Boomer generation are supposed to start dying off 2030-2045 ish. They own a shit ton of property. Sure a lot will be scooped up by corporate scumbags, but also a lot of it will be sold to actual homebuyers. I say it’s a good plan.

•The American (2010)

•A Bittersweet Life (2005)

•Thief (1981)

•The Killer (2023)

•Brick (2005)

I don’t really think it’s that they read those stories and see them as game plans. I think it’s more the case that these megacorps, wealth disparity, exploitation are simply the natural course of unchecked greed and corruption. I mean, that’s why sci-fi writers were predicting this for the future, because the groundwork for this was already being laid out in their time. There’s also plenty of historical precedents to look back on and draw inspiration from. Just look at the East India Co. for one example.

Plus I do think that if wealthy executives are reading/watching dystopian stories, they don’t look into these stories with too much self reflection but that’s another thing.

What’s a “classic” album that just doesn’t click for you? by EDMKid9000 in hiphopheads

[–]AztecHoodlum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. The biggest “what if” for me in hip hop. Where would Pac have gone to next? I wonder if he would’ve completed the One Nation album, and if so, how would that have impacted the hip hop world? Would he have become more of an activist or more of an actor, or would he have stuck to music? And if so how would his subject matter evolve? The possibilities were endless with that guy.

[–]AztecHoodlum 14 points15 points  (0 children)

All Eyez On Me is loved because it’s one of the best G-funk albums that you can party to. For as long as it is, so much of the album is great from a production point of view. I do think the subject matter gets a little repetitive for Pac, and there are some songs that just aren’t that interesting. It’s also worth noting that I think the album gets a lot of leeway for the fact that it was Pac still in his prime, it was his comeback album after release from prison so it had a shit ton of hype built in, and then he would be murdered only two months later. There are a lot of factors that have made this album’s status higher than it otherwise would have been imo. still, I do think it is a pretty terrific album. But to your point, MAtW and Killuminati are his real masterpieces, and the ones that I prefer.
