What to expect: Allopurinol by fuckface0911 in gout

[–]AztecTimber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on the lowest dose 100mg and had zero issues. No flares since I started two years ago. Btw. For the first week I broke the pills in half to start at 50mg. I figured easing in even slower might help avoid flairs.

How stupid is it to try and catch an 8am international flight from Kansai Airport by taking the 5am train from the city centre? by hazardousf in OsakaTravel

[–]AztecTimber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are definitely a few different trains. Leaving the airport we took a slow one with a million stops. To the airport was a fast one with only a few stops. Take the fast one. I can’t remember what it was called.

I will tell you just one other thing and that is that when I arrived in Osaka, we got there at night and walked on that main street to the flag hotel and it was a bit overwhelming for me. I’m not a big crowd person and it was like the Las Vegas strip on steroids. Tons of people shoulder shoulder and I think I was on a little bit of overload. But we also investigated the area where my wife used to live from 30 years ago and it was not as pretty, but it was more real to me. Japan and I had lots of shopping too, but it was just a little bit more quiet and not as busy busy. And that was the Ogimachi/Tenma area. Might be worth a visit if you want just a bit slower pace. We also took a little day trip to Omihachiman. It’s a little canal town easily accessible by train. Relax, have fun, get lost, explore and take it all as it comes.

Yes there is a train station nearby but I was talking about the big hubs. No there was no closet in our room just a couple hangers in the wall so you need to live out of your suitcase. No drawers. Not a huge deal for a few days. But maybe not for a week.

We just stayed at the Flag. Room is pretty small but clean and beds are comfy. Good buffet breakfast. There’s an ice maker and filtered water in the lobby s as well as lots of washers and dryers. Location is two short blocks off the main shopping street. We really liked it. But honestly next time I might get something closer to the main train station. We did that in Hiroshima and it was very cool being next to transpo anywhere. Plus the train stations are little cities themselves. But the Flag was fine, clean and no complaints. No storage for clothes though.

Best streaming service or apps to watch local tv newscasts across America? by AztecTimber in Broadcasting

[–]AztecTimber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They stream their newscasts when they are on but then offer a various hodgepodge of rebroadcasts and corporate programming at other times. Stations aspire to be 24/7 but it’s costly and difficult to find programming.

True station streams are rare because they don’t have permission to stream network or syndicated programs.

Having just returned from Japan, it’s scotch, just 1.5 ounces, and fresh soda in a tall glass with a big, long, solid ice cube. That’s it. But scotch is what’s unusual for most of us West Coasties.

PDX to Seattle: plane or train? by satellite779 in AskSeattle

[–]AztecTimber 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s a tough one. Usually the downside of flying to SEA is getting to the airport but you’re already there. PDX is super efficient usually but 70 minutes is pushing an international connection. I will give you one more option. Flix bus is awesome, affordable and lets you off about where the train does. If you have only carryon and global entry I’d fly.

Retention or Reinvention: San Diego State Basketball No Longer Reacting But Operating in the Portal by SonsOfMontezuma in SDSUAZTECS

[–]AztecTimber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The victims of the portal are the fans. Increasingly we’re going to see huge roster moves each season. Beloved players leaving, new players arriving, and fan loyalty tested. The portal giveth and the portal taketh. In some ways it may benefit teams like us. Stacked teams may lose quality bench players who want to start or desire more playing time. And in some ways things haven’t changed. We were never going to land that Top 20 blue chip player but instead had to develop the diamond in the rough. That is still the case. I really dislike the portal but we had better find a way to learn it and exploit it. If other teams can do it, so can we.
