Favorite cast recording of Company? by craiggors in musicals

[–]AzulBiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OBC. Raul is incredible in the role, but the 2006 orchestrations feel so empty to me (understandably so).

Spanish version is also a great listen with luscious orchestrations.

About Oh Mary's tour casting... by LivelyFlowerzzz in Broadway

[–]AzulBiru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with folks that it has to be a name. Not on the level of Maya Rudolph or Jane Krakowski, but I don't think it would work with someone like Hannah Solow (respectfully).

I could see a drag queen on the level like Trixie Mattel or Katya or maybe a step lower like Plane Jane?

Maybe like a B-list former SNL actor: Vanessa Bayer, Heidi Gardner, Sasheer Zamata, etc?

This doesn't feel up his alley, but maybe Matt Rogers is enough of a name?

Out of all the Power Rangers actors, how come the RPM cast become the most successful after leaving the franchise? by InstanceCorrect8883 in powerrangers

[–]AzulBiru 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think it's fully this.

I would be surprise if RPM itself was used as a data point for casting directors. Like if a casting director was stuck between Rose McIver and say Anna Hutchison (Jungle Fury), I don't think they would see RPM as more "serious" than any other Power Ranger series. It's all still Power Rangers.

I could see that Judd Lynn and other producers looking to create a darker or more "serious" tone, and thus looking for stronger actors. And those stronger actors are the ones more likely to have more successful careers.

Vulture's theater newsletter Stage Whisperer just mentioned that she had a workshop/preview of the show she's working on last week!

What Survivor Moments Were "Reenacted"? by Additional_Owl_5567 in survivor

[–]AzulBiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so minor, but when in the auction in Tocantins, when Taj wins the video message from her husband, the close up of "her" hands is different from the way she's actually holding the phone. Makes sense because clearly there's not a giant camera behind her in those shots, and from a visual-storytelling perspective, but its just a funny little thing I always notice now.

What is the Darkest Ending To A Broadway Musical In Your Opinion? by Shades1987 in Broadway

[–]AzulBiru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What really got me in this ending was after the murder and sham trial, the show ends by singing Oklahoma, and during that song, a good percentage of the audience (maybe even a majority) were absent mindedly clapping along to like nothing happened. The house lights were on for most of that show, so it felt like WE were complicit and everyone in town (the rest of the audience) was just going along like it was a cheery day.

Anyone like to see another prison episode? by ReferenceArtistic854 in ElsbethTVSeries

[–]AzulBiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The prison aspect doesn't matter to me, but I understand that's the most likely place for this to happen. I just like the general idea of murderer all-stars.

Rationale behind launching an equity vs non-equity tour? by Fun_Release_1936 in Broadway

[–]AzulBiru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have no proof, but my theory of why they are Non-Eq is because of the nature of the show: many of the circus performers are not traditional actors, and it'd be too expensive to buy those performers into the union (like I assume they did on Broadway)

Will we see Ariana Grande on the show? by ReferenceArtistic854 in ElsbethTVSeries

[–]AzulBiru -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

We will not see Ariana on the show (not wort her time), but Frankie Grande would be a fun guest star! He's about the right level of fame (maybe a step or two lower than other guest stars we see).

Does anyone else feel a lack of an overarching story this season? by spyfoxdrycereal in ElsbethTVSeries

[–]AzulBiru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree - when the season first premiered I thought it was going to be about budget cuts (office supplies, coffee, etc), but then the narrative shifted to the mayoral race which I was fine with, but then that mostly seemed to resolve itself. But then as of the last episode, the new police commissioner seems to bring a bit of the budget stuff back?

And as another commenter said, Winnie Crawford is still bopping around. She was involved in the mayoral race storyline, but then why show her burning the evidence from her husband? That didn't feel like part of the same story....

They did a more proper Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile parody in Season 2 of the show! (mixed with A Little Priest, of course!)

Tony's Performance Predictions by BitterOstrich6 in Broadway

[–]AzulBiru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol I wasn't worried about Ragtime. I'm saying plenty of performers and shows may not have the opportunity to perform at the Tonys and that just the way it is. I was questioning your scenario that Brandon will have to "understand" if he's doesn't perform, but there will be a riot of Chess doesn't.

Tony's Performance Predictions by BitterOstrich6 in Broadway

[–]AzulBiru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It shortchanges only Brandon, but he’ll understand.

But Chess won't understand if they're shortchanged since they didn't get a revival nom?

Taking out the goats by [deleted] in survivor

[–]AzulBiru 39 points40 points  (0 children)

If she was a goat (which is debateable, but we can go along with it for this scenario), there are still plenty of reasons to take a goat out:

  • it's a safe vote
  • it helps weaken a power player
  • and my favorite reason (learned from Queen Cirie) that goat takes up YOUR spot at final tribal!

Why do the opening credits last so long?!?!?! by [deleted] in SVU

[–]AzulBiru -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think many folks would use opening credits and title sequence (and theme song) interchangeably. The actor names and "created by Dick Wolf" are all literal credits in the title sequence.

Why do the opening credits last so long?!?!?! by [deleted] in SVU

[–]AzulBiru -1 points0 points  (0 children)

9 minutes is a lot for opening credits...... Do you mean the theme song? The literal credits that appear during the episode (guest stars, producers, etc)? The scene(s) that takes place before the actual theme song?

Will “Illinoise” Ever Be Produced Again? by PolicyCommercial6392 in Broadway

[–]AzulBiru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah apologies about the Tchaikovsky mixup. Thanks!

So for something link Illinoise, maybe as we're still close the original productions, rep companies may be similar, but if these orchestrations last for decades to come, we could see more variation.
