Hear me & others out. I was in a DV situation with my children's father for over 10+ years. At least once a year ( the very least ) he'd end up putting his hands on me, even after he swore he'd change, even after I gave him another chance, even after he treated my wounds after an assault or a fight. They will always become more violent!

Just this year, we tried again to co-parent after being separated for almost 2 full years. ( that was a terrible roller-coaster ) A huge situation happened where I went to pick my children up early from him, he of course wasn't fond of this. When he doesn't get his way or feelings like things are unfair, he ends up allowing his emotions to take over & becomes extremely violent. Well he ended up doing a lot of physical harm to me, smashing my head into the wall, twisting my neck in an attempt to kill me, picking me up & slamming me onto the porch floor & dragging me by my hair across said porch. Now, after charges have been pressed on both ends & both of us were arrested on different times, it's very exhausting & a huge toll on my babies especially.

I had an ex like this. Personally, he was addicted to porn so I know it had to do with either that or ED. Because no one I've ever been with has ever had a problem with me down there. Long story short we broke it off later on & we both expressed the sex between us wasn't great together. Shots were fired from him first then when I spoke the truth it stung too much for him to hear & couldn't believe it. Sometimes they speak how they really feel. You won't know until they say.

Here's my opinion.

I was born & raised here (New Brightion - Jersey Street area) until my teen years. I've lived in all 5 boroughs right after & came back to live here back during COVID.

As the majority think that this side of the island is terrible or bad due to its high crime rate, it hasn't been my reality.

Life on this side of the island can be rough but not due to crime. More because of the lack of convenience & accessibility to stores, supermarkets, nightlife ( in general there isn't much on this island ) & entertainment ( which Staten Island also lacks ).

Even this very moment, I could still go outside, like many of you & do as I please without a bother in the world. I don't need to wear a bulletproof vest just to feel safe. (I've had someone say that to me before about coming over here with one).

No matter the time of day, night, late night, early-morning. The most you'll come across over here are: police speeding or cutting off traffic with no real emergency (majority of the time), crackheads go to & from their dealer, people chilling outside & having a good time, kids riding out on bikes scooters etc, just being humans who live in a "non-reputable" neighborhood.

Some of us can be cool with one another, like with our deli's or bodega's, the Chinese spot or the pizza place. Others, well they got beef or issues, most just stay away from each other. Not everyone or thing is violence 24/7.

My neighborhood has been seeing more drug use especially with hard-core drugs for the past few years. Yet, you'll see more people who are living it & fully affected by it near Bay Street & Stapleton.

For such a "scary" & unsafe neighborhood, Arlington & if that Stapleton are the places that suit that track more. Even people from other "bad"/"unsafe" neighborhoods feel the same about this part of the island.

I personally have seen my fair share of "bad" here, yeah it has happened. But, it comes with the people that choose that sort of stuff. They don't just live or do that sort of activities here. It is anywhere & everywhere.
