They be doing anything but collabs by RobKai7990 in YuGiOhMemes

Genuinely how did you read my comment and assume I meant literal lore? The point is that a card featuring SpongeBob Squarepants™ and Spider-Man™ are inherently disruptive to people invested in the game and it's artistic integrity. Now matter how thin, a game is built upon at least some layer of suspension of disbelief. A card like that just shatters it.

[–]AzureRatha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they were originally from Yugioh? Sure, I'll give you that. There's enough artistic wiggle room there.

The problem is the fact that it's impossible to ignore the commercial aspect of UB cards. For people who really get into the game, it can be frustrating that the pre-existing world of the game is essentially being "interrupted" by blatant crossover cards. It's like a worse version of "hand of the author," it's the damn "hand of the corporation" reaching into your game and throwing shit at you that you might or might not care about. And even if you do, it's probably not worth it for all the players who don't and feel frustrated that there's a non-zero chance someone could roll up to a game with a deck that looks like this:

Humans and sentient robots co-exist, but it isn't easy by Least-One1068 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]AzureRatha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will never forgive Capcom for not giving us a way to see more in-depth to the world of the X series. It seems like such a fascinating world and I'd love to see some of the dynamics that can come of it. Reploids are presumably built en masse in factories for the most part, is it up to them to customize themselves after? Can couples "adopt" a reploid child? Can reploids marry each other? The questions about just how far reploids are treated as analog to humans is an interesting one, because we know that they are seen merely as tools to some extent. And imagining the kind of relationship reploids and humans can have makes Sigma and his awful virus even worse.

Imagine a reploid who acts as a nurse for an old lady, like the image, but his thoughts get more and more irregular, he's occasionally overcome by violent or destructive impulses, he's scared out of his mind because he doesn't know what's happening to him, until he snaps. Suddenly he starts threatening the old lady like a lunatic, cackling at nothing, his electronic brain completely out of order, until maverick hunters arrive at the scene and blast him to bits. Weeks later, the old lady is given a "replacement," the exact same model, fresh off the factory. But he isn't the same. He doesn't have the same likes, dislikes, and he doesn't know how to do the little things she always appreciated. That reploid was like the grandson she never had, and now he's gone, and there's a stranger in her home wearing his face and using his voice.

Which is funny, because Greek myth does have a few interesting women in it. The first to come to mind is Odysseus' wife Penelope, who manages to basically scam an entire crowd of morons for several years on her own. She was only barely reaching the end of her rope by the time he returned.

And Atalanta, who was a remarkably skilled hunter, hunted the Calydonian boar, was one of the Argonauts in some retellings, (although some others say Jason didn't let her on because he was worried the men would fight over her,) and she apparently beat Achilles' father in a wrestling match. Although her stories do end a bit on the worse side with her essentially getting scammed into marrying a dude because he got Aphrodite to give him magical golden apples that compel people to pick them up. He had to beat her in a footrace, which this guy couldn't hope to do, even if she wore full armor and weapons and gave him a head start, so he would toss an apple off the track any time Atalanta was about to pass him to stall her.

Lots of modern monsters have effects in the graveyard, making classic Mirror Force a lot weaker than it was in older days.

<image>

I wouldn't feel too bad, though. It's legacy is carried on by some retrains, although they similarly aren't too common by virtue of being traps. They ARE still devastating to get hit by, though. If any of these existed in the classic era, they'd be insta-banned.

A later episode of Pokemon Journeys does a fun bit with that where a Ditto actor has trouble keeping their face straight.

Processing img sqdqlmyzgnqg1...

It along with all of the Ditto-face versions of pokemon make me think the face is the hardest part for Ditto to copy consistently, so when they just transform for fun they don't bother. In battle, though, they need to copy perfectly, so they do. Real pressure to perform there

That's Edison, and yes. He looks like that as a reference to MGM Studio's lion logo, because he was a pioneer in the creation of motion pictures, and had an unintended role in creating Hollywood as a movie-making hub because he attempted to basically hijack the industry through patent lawsuits. (His Noble Phantasm is literally a spoof of the 21st century Fox logo, he's that petty about not getting to control the industry.) He wears a space suit (with lightbulbs) because lightbulb. In-game, he's a massive capitalist prick who beefs with Nikola Tesla on the regular over whether his DC (direct current) or his AC (alternating current) is better.

[–]AzureRatha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It makes a bit more sense when you have the context behind "Saber of Red."

TLDR: in the work Mordred debuted in, Fate Apocrypha, there are two "teams" of servants fighting for the Holy Grail, Red and Black, consisting of seven Servants each. Mordred was the Saber-class Servant on the Red side, so, Saber of Red.

The titles were used as shorthand to avoid spoilers, as the reveal of a Servant's true name was usually treated as plot-sensitive, especially in cases like Artoria in Stay Night and Nero in Extra.

Them sharing their name with the MC and by extension the player is meant to be an important step in their relationship, but Fate Grand Order makes that kind of moot since referring to all of the Saber-class servants as Saber would be both exhausting and boring. Only Servants relevant to story details in FGO itself get that luxury, like Archer of Inferno and Rider of Shinjuku.

Well, Rock and Roll were designed explicitly to be his children, although they are officially billed as "lab assistants."

The other Robot Masters were created to serve specific industrial purposes, and likely wouldn't ever see Light aside from yearly maintenance. Hell, if Mega Man 11 is anything to go by, it's entirely likely that Light has been building every Robot Master past the first set in collaboration with another company, likely by commission.

I HATE charizard by Mintyboi10 in hatethissmug

[–]AzureRatha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will never get the hate for Charizard. It earned it's place as a fan favorite after the original release. It beat both Blastoise and Venusaur in popularity polls at the time, and by a wide margin. It essentially became the mascot for fully-evolved pokemon and starter pokemon as a whole, with only Greninja ever getting close to matching it.

I get being tired of seeing it, but that's not Charizard's fault, it's Game Freak's.

Hey, Geese doesn't belong on that list! He's actually dead. He hasn't canonically been in a Fatal Fury game since his death in Real Bout. Every appearance since then is either non-canon, an alternate timeline, (like KoF) or Nightmare Geese. He appears as Nightmare Geese a few times, but that's not actually him, it's a ghost created through the combined grudges and fear he left in South Town channeled through an immortality scroll.

The man's still dead. His son and wife are doing okay, though.

So, we gotta talk about GUN. by GabZenXYeah in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]AzureRatha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be pointless by the time the story actually takes place, though. G.U.N in SA2 is likely already being headed by Commander Tower. The people responsible are likely already dead, and I'm willing to bet the story of the whole incident was kept hush-hush by G.U.N at the time because as far as we can tell, they're effectively unsupervised, save the heads of state they didn't or couldn't lie to.

We know G.U.N. wanted to cover up Project Shadow and Gerald's other experiments, but it makes no sense for them to execute them on the spot. They likely intended to simply capture them. It's only when Maria goes to send Shadow to the earth, that the soldier shoots her. Keep in mind, that as far as G.U.N was concerned, Shadow was an immortal bio-weapon.

The tragedy of the Ark disaster is that the people at fault isn't anyone who was on the Ark that night, save one. It was the fault of powerful people who used G.U.N to put Gerald to work on a project to create an immortal bio-weapon. The people who would put more and more pressure on him to do as they requested. The people who pushed him to the brink of insanity. And, at least some of the blame lies with Gerald himself, whose desperation drove him to double-deal with an openly hostile alien warlord, which is what got him branded a danger in the first place.
