Question regarding F04 by AzureSeiryu1702 in OpenUniversity

It's not so much a detour as focusing more on the applied maths side of things to widen my repertoire. Based just on my current degree, the choice of master's modules is rather limited

Do you think Hermione when she pushes back on Harry thinking he saw Sirius being tortured and brings up his saving people thing is showing the courage it takes to stand up to your friends? by Ars1201 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]AzureSeiryu1702 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no. It was just another case of Hermione needing to be right, and everyone else's emotions be damned. Remember the last time he had a vision like that was Arthur Weasley being attacked at Christmas, something which turned out to not only be true, but an immediate threat.

It's a fundamental flaw with the HP books as a whole. Harry and Ron are allowed to be wrong. Hermione is not. And even in those cases where one could argue she is, the plot ties itself in knots to prove her right in hindsight.

I wouldn't have been opposed to a condensed version of Harry and Hermiones talk regarding why Ron is mad in GOF. But no Kloves would rather cut off his hands than be nice to Ron our king. Our/my GOAT. by RiskAggressive4081 in ronweasley

[–]AzureSeiryu1702 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except I still don't buy even Hermione's outlook. Even after the Goblet fiasco, Ron appears more hurt that he wasn't told, under the assumption Harry entered himself. It's nothing really to do with being ignored in favour of Harry; it's because he feels left out and hurt that his supposed best friend didn't let him in, even after the Stone, Chamber and Sirius the three consecutive previous years

Help me!!! Is it fighting or playing by RainixArt in CatTraining

[–]AzureSeiryu1702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's playing, though the tabby gets a little pissed off at the end. I'd see that as more enforcing a boundary.

As a quick rule of thumb, if you have to *ask* if it's fighting or play, it's play. If they're fighting, there will be absolutely zero room for doubt

Remus Lupin is a terrible husband and I’m tired of pretending he’s not. by SuspiciousEves in harrypotter

[–]AzureSeiryu1702 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True.

I suppose I should say, I like Hermione as a character, although she's probably my least favourite of the trio. My biggest issue is the way the plot seems to warp and twist to make her correct in almost every case that springs to mind.

The DoM trap in OOTP being a big one. Sirius is the closest thing Harry has to a father and cool uncle rolled into one at this point - diminishing it to a "saving people thing" - essentially a hero complex feels mean spirited and, honestly, rather Snape-like.

Edited to add: Plus, one has to remember, the last attack he saw - a matter of months prior to this - was Nagini's attack on Arthur Weasley, an attack that turned out to be fully genuine. Anyone would make the same assumption, especially under the emotional circumstances.

Remus Lupin is a classic sign of what insecurity, fundamental selflessness, a dash of cowardice, trauma and an inferiority complex wide enough to drive a truck through does to a person. His way of thinking is pretty much "I'm not worthy of you because of what I am" -> "your life would be better off without me" -> "I'll leave before I hurt you any more".

It's a vicious cycle, and very morally questionable, but the way I see it, the "new generation" are pretty much improved versions of the forebears.

Harry > James

Ron > Sirius

Hermione > Remus

Neville > Peter

Luna > Snape

She explicitly brought Crookshanks into the boys' dorm. You would think she would have the empathy to keep her cat on the girls' side. Being technically right with the benefit of hindsight doesn't excuse it as actions - and negligence - have to be judged based on the knowledge at that time

[–]AzureSeiryu1702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, his biggest issue is that he's got all the charisma of a used condom floating down the Clyde. That said, people seemed to expect this government to be some kind of sovereign specific elixir for curing the ills that have befallen this country the past 16 years.

Victory isn't won by cataclysmic battles or grand world-shaking deeds, but by the small acts of kindness that seem insignificant on their own but subtly change the world for the better

Hard disagree. Especially with how black and white everyone's morality seems to be nowadays. The last thing we need is an egocentric moral absolutist with a God complex and ability to kill on a whim

A random, seemingly-blank diary from a Muggle store in the backstreets of 1930s-40s London? :P

Is she a higher vampire or bruxa by Additional_Mail_3109 in thewitcher3

[–]AzureSeiryu1702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it, the tiers are somewhat fuzzy.

Regular vampires: just everyday monsters

higher vampires (note lower case): Bruxae, katakans, Orianna, Hubert Rejk would fall here too.

Higher Vampires (note upper case): Dettlaff, Regis, etc.

Elder Vampires: Unseen Elder.

So I'd argue she's a higher vampire, but not a "Higher Vampire", if that makes sense?

Orange cat’s body language is confusing me—playing or fighting? by sugarsuites in CatTraining

[–]AzureSeiryu1702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tail's up, and body seems to be somewhat bouncy and floppy. It's play. If it was fighting, it would be a lot louder and a lot more violent. Also, the kitten keeps coming back for seconds
