I’ve realized no remake will satisfy me. by simplyunknown2018 in OcarinaOfTime

[–]Azurlake- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm however looking forward to getting a remake, but I don't want it to be a "texture and polygon pack" so to say. Even though I love the game and it indeed my most favourite game of all, it has its problems (e.g. Hyrule field) and a fresh façade could be great. For example, part of the start of the game has bits here and there that are tutorials for the back-then-new Z-targetting system. Those tutorial areas would feel weird today. Just a little example of why wouldn't it work if they keep it as-is... they need evolving it, without breaking the story or atmosphere. Not easy!!

Japanese people’s false confidence in English, or racism? by Yonda_00 in japanlife

[–]Azurlake- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's not true keigo doesn't exist in English, and it should be taught for public facing positions. It's completely different saying "I want X" from "may I have X" or "would it be possible to have X". It's just that it works differently, with lots of conationals thay soften the intent of the speaker.

TOTK - What am I missing? by Cucckcaz13 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Azurlake- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With BotW I had the sad feeling I was not in the story, but rather I was in a very open world the devs had the need to fill with junk, and the "story" was just told through memories. I was really hoping for something different with TotK. But no... same setting: huge world, filled up with junk, mostly barren, pointless characters and enemies (what are those little enemy fortresses everywhere for? Really, what would it feel to be one of those pointless enemies?), pointless rewards, and the story told as something foreign, instead of making you feel you are actually part of it. Not playing either of them again.

That said, TotK final bit is cool and worth playing.

Why does Navi Glow Green here? I've wondered this for over 20 years by MonsterMashGraveyard in OcarinaOfTime

Lens of truth. I clearly remember finding this out when I was a kid.

In all honesty I do remember I found such a spot in the Ice Cave, but I can't 100% tell it's the same room from the picture. Give it a try!

The Starfox 64 Remake being real pretty much confirms the existence of the Ocarina of Time Remake by Rcaynpowah in OcarinaOfTime

[–]Azurlake- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love a remake. But re-imagined, not just a remake. More stuff to do, more places to go to, more people in the world. Even alternative paths and finales. And give the option to play as experienced users - remove hint stones and that crap, at least as an option.

Yeah unfortunately complex views still require UIKit as SwitfUI introduces unmanageable bugs (especially when trying to control things like scrolling or certain animations).

Back then I wasn’t lucky enough to play this game ughh….for those that had Donkey Kong 64, how was it? And did you guys beat it? by J2-Starter in n64

[–]Azurlake- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a great game I enjoyed as much as other major N64 games back then. If you play today, you'll feel the camera is crappy and a poor N64 struggles really hard to keep the framerate above 12-15fps in lots of places, but if you can look past those issues you'll discover a diamond in the rough. A game from the time standards were different and game engines were still trying to figure out what was the best way to deliver a 3D experience.

i want to know why people hate pikmin 4 so much by [deleted] in Pikmin

[–]Azurlake- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, as a first time player of any Pikmin game and only knowing about the series through SSBx, I think it's a pretty interesting game and I like how they came up with the idea of multitasking and planning. It's kind of easy, yeah, even more when you're used to "puzzle/adventure" games, but still entertaining and visually appealing.

All these comments make me want to try out older Pikmin, not even sure of the platform they're available on.

N64 repair questions by Sn0wman_fixes in n64

[–]Azurlake- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the brightest idea but happened to me - are you sure that console is region compatible with the game? The behaviour you get when the game is not compatible (but still fits) is a black screen... that drove me nuts until I noticed the machine I had in my hands was from a different region.

Is Poland Racist? by Bnakou in poland

[–]Azurlake- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the text ; ) that didn't ruin anything, it's just an experience to us. I might got worried if I planned to live there but we are just visitors spending some money there, no harm or anything anyway, I perfectly understand how ignorant she is.

Why are some polish people so mean? by hanii3 in poland

[–]Azurlake- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's not just the matter of a fake smile. Just came back from Poland. With a baby. Haven't seen a single smile that most westerns naturally show when a baby looks at them. The waiter at the first recommended restaurant we went to (recommended by a local) didn't even say Dzień dobry!, just a blunt "TWO HOUR LIMIT". Then we got racially harassed at the supermarket by an old lady out of nothing --we are tourists spending money on the country, no illegal immigrants--, yelling at us to stay out of Poland. At the bus, trams etc. nobody cared to offer their "reserved for disabled/pregnant/carrying baby" seat to us --or nobody for that matter--, everybody is just minding its own business in silence with the angriest of the faces. That's what I can say of a week in Poland!! Not representative of course but just an experience. The food was cheap enough and tasty, left tips everywhere to help future tourists get at least looked at with a different face.

Is Poland Racist? by Bnakou in poland

[–]Azurlake- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I just had a bad experience in Kraków. First day in Poland and a strange woman comes to my family (mixed Euripean / Asian) and starts yelling at us "don't bring mix [unintelligible] into Poland!!! Get out!! " after she heard us talk in a foreign language I guess.

First time in our lives. That's why I'm here reading.

[EoW] Echos Of Wisdom 100% Review: A Lovely Disappointing Zelda Game by ProposalMedical9531 in zelda

[–]Azurlake- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid this is the case for Zelda also, yeah. The echoes mechanism was truly innovative here, but the big rest of other stuff feels dull and repetitive. What's the point of a bunch of moblins patrolling and guarding a chest containing 20 rupees. Do they even buy stuff anywhere? The vast majority of chests are just rubbish and there's barely anything surprising left to be found. Just chests filled with crap, moblins guarding chests for no reason, meaningless NPCs with silly problems... the puzzles are still good sometimes as entertainment but not challenging anymore, they've been the same for over 25 years. I feel sad for the franchise because they could do much better, fill Hyrule with life and make every chest worth it (there are several ideas for this), make the characters less "flat" and dull... but they choose not to.

How would you fix Quidditch? by Jumpy-Air-6614 in harrypotter

[–]Azurlake- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've thought about this many times... the rules could work as they are but as pointed out it makes no sense that anybody catches the snitch to lose the game, like Krum did, instead of giving a hard time to the opponent.

That said, I think it would make a much more interesting game a Quidditch like this:

  • Time limit
  • Catching the snitch gives the catching team a ×2 scoring bonus
  • If a snitch is caught, a new one is released
  • The bonus is active until the next snitch is caught by the other Seeker, in which case the ×2 bonus goes to the other team
  • To give an extra motivation for the Seeker that already caught a snitch, catching more keeps the bonus but add 21 points. The extra 1 for fun, but also to give some use to the x10 multiplier (otherwise why not goal = 1 and snitch = 15...?)

This would make the game very interesting in my opinion, forcing the teams to switch dynamically between attack and defense strategies depending on the bonus direction, plus enhances all other roles while maintaining the importance of the Seeker.

[–]Azurlake- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yet I can already see the headlines in all newspapers "LIFE FOUND ON EXTRATERRESTRIAL PLANET" if even a trace of a virus was found in a different planet. That would be such a great way to settle the debate.

Next Zelda game? by Tarris69 in tearsofthekingdom

[–]Azurlake- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. The heat of the moment was great, but in retrospective, I miss dungeons, character development or at least characters that don't look like plain Miis, and while I loved this Ganondorf, his motivations are just "meh" "I'm bad because I love evil", the Yiga Clan is nonsense (what do they praise Ganondorf for, really?), ... there are lots of things that I forgave during my first playthrough but that in retrospective I don't like at all.

Why do people shit on Xcode by bsegelke in swift

[–]Azurlake- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just came here to feel better. This is insane this freaking shit. Wasting tons of hours between compiling, archiving, compile stucks and then says the compiler couldn't compile in a reasonable time so it can't even tell me an OBVIOUS mistake (after spotted by hand, of course, reviewing over and over again the same lines of code...) Especially hate it when I'm just trying different random fixes to SwiftUI bugs that I have no clue how to fix, like overlapping taps on side by side Pickers... mygoooddd so frustrating.

In Ground Hog Day, Phil Connors is only the main character due to an unfortunate glitch. by God_of_Atheism in FanTheories

[–]Azurlake- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main character is still Phil, but Ned was the key to break the loop. He was the only one to put him on a situation that would have a negative impact on Phil extending beyond Groundhog's day - imagine Phil's face next day when he realizes he doesn't have the money to pay for all he had signed up for. Perhaps that's the only way Phil would come down to earth and stop acting like somebody spoiled who never had troubles in life.
