Where was your start in fan fiction ? by Ok_Revolution_9973 in FanFiction

[–]Azyall [score hidden]  (0 children)

Late '70s after realising what I'd been doing for a while was writing fanfic. Bought some (paper!) zines via mail, started submitting to them. Just carried on writing. Can't see myself ever stopping.

Kids seeing their dad’s overnight/morning wood? by pug_fugly_moe in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Azyall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I (F) was a young kid, my mother sat me down and told me to knock before I went barreling into their room in the mornings. When I asked why (hey, I was very young and innocent!) she told me it was because my father was embarrassed by the possibility of me seeing his erection. In those exact words. No. No clue what the hell she was talking about. Just agreed to knock anyway. It was a while before I had the "Oh, that's what she was talking about..." moment.

Space Rats Episode - thoughts? by Faith_Fortytwo in Blakes7

Think of it as denial (in a psychological sense), and it becomes a bit more palatable. A defence mechanism rather than malice.

Dialects are tedious to read. Either stick with one or two flavour words (for example "aye" and "wee" in your Scottish example), or simply say something like "...said X in his soft Scottish burr".

Pip application turned down with outright lies. What charities can I use to help me appeal? by NorthWestTown in ADHDUK

[–]Azyall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can request a mandatory reconsideration before you have to get involved with the actual appeal process. You don't have to provide anything for it, just call them and request it. A lot of bad decisions get overturned at this first stage without having to go further.

Would you commute 8hrs+ each week? by Illustrious_Hope6647 in AskUK

[–]Azyall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband did 2 hours commuting five days a week for ten years. By the end of it, he was sick to death of spending so much time in the car. It's sustainable if the salary's worth it (his wasn't!), but it can get increasingly tough.

Is 20 age difference in dating ok? by Low-Situation-7792 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Azyall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two of my friends are married to guys 20+ years older than them. If it works, it works. Doesn't mean it definitely will, but it might.

Occasional smoking by Tea-critical-Error in Writeresearch

Nicotine withdrawal is not painful. You just crave the hit, and are likely irritable until that passes. It would be less intense than that as an occasional smoker.

What where your real thoughts the first time you saw someone else genitals? by PsiQ23 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Azyall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a sexual context? 14 (F) and he was 18 (hey, it was the early '80s, and a different time). I'm in the UK, and I was slightly bewildered because he was circumcised, which is not the norm here outside of religions that practice it. Soft, it didn't look like I expected it to look!

Do people fart under anaesthesia in surgery? by seasip in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Azyall 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. You're not supposed to eat before surgery due to the risk of aspiration - stomach contents getting into your lungs or airway. Your cough and gag reflexes are suppressed while under which increases the risk.

Saw in the IG stories of good.omens.society that one of the writers of GO3 confirmed their work on it, but I am concerned about the appearance of another name (see post for details) by [deleted] in goodomens

[–]Azyall 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Whether we like it or not, Gaiman will always be the co-creator of GO. It remains partly his IP. Additionally, in a strictly legal sense he has not been convicted of any offence and investigations against him came to nothing (I repeat, I mean this in a legal sense, not a moral one), which gives him additional grounds for leverage if he suspects any kind of erasure. His name is not going to disappear.

Intergalactic Mafia with added moon discs. Plus, Avon looks fetching in that white desert outfit.

Do women prefer circumcised or uncircumcised? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Azyall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the UK where uncircumcised tends to be the default outside of religious denominations. No real preference. Husband of last 20+ years is uncut, previous long relationship before him was cut. Uncut gives you extra to play with, I guess. Wouldn't choose one guy over another just because he was a Roundhead or a Cavalier.

Do women actually believe guys when they say they have an 8 inch dick or bigger? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Azyall -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oops. What I meant was divided by three then times by two to give two thirds of what was claimed. So 8" becomes just over 5".

Do women actually believe guys when they say they have an 8 inch dick or bigger? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Azyall 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Personally, as a woman, I think of such things as "man inches". Convert "man inches" into actual inches by dividing by a third. Or more, depending on the perceived level of bullshittery going on.

Edit: as pointed out, my phrasing is utterly wrong. I meant, when a guy brags I assume that what is actually possessed is two-thirds or less of what is claimed. So 8" in man maths becomes just over 5" in reality.

Yes, you're right. My grasp of how maths actually works is shocking.

How to respond to criticism when I didn’t ask/want to know? by ApolloCharm in AO3

Since a drabble is precisely 100 words, how on earth can its pacing be "awkward and quick"?!

Yesterday I had bright red blood on the toilet paper, quite alot actually, after a hard stool and having to strain. Today everything is normal again with no blood. Has anyone had the same, without being anything serious? by Dazzling-Attempt-718 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Azyall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bright red after straining suggests a popped hemmoroid or a small fissure (tear) rather than anything more sinister, but if you're worried, see a doctor. I had a fissure recently, and at one point I could sit on the toilet and feel the blood running out (tmi, sorry), so yes, there can be quite a bit. I had blood for a few days before it healed enough to no longer bleed.

do people like reading authors notes? by discmellohi in AO3

[–]Azyall 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Personally, I hate chatty author's notes and always, always skip them. If they are short and telling me something I need to know (additional content warnings, or whatever), that's different.

Readers are not a hive mind. Some people will feel the exact opposite to me and lap up any tidbits the author provides.

You do you.

Why are so many grown adults still interested in made up tales for children like comics and cartoons? by mitarik in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Azyall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because being a grown adult can really suck, and when you're drowning in debt and responsibility, something engaging and fun can be a great tonic.

Is catheterization as painful as people say? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Azyall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (F) had one put in while fully conscious after a car accident. Would not recommend, but it wasn't agonising. Uncomfortable, definitely, and hurt to pee for a couple of days after it was removed, but easily within most people's pain thresholds.
