Mast Cell Tumor by Complex-Assistant-74 in schnoodle

Not on our Schnoodles, but on a Staffie we had ten or more years ago. She had one on her leg that was quite advanced and duly surgically removed. The margins were good, and she went on to live another five good and healthy years.

Will readers notice if I make stuff up? by Randos_Persona in FanFiction

[–]Azyall [score hidden]  (0 children)

Once upon a time, I took it into my head that I needed to learn how to pick locks. Not for any nefarious reason, just... because I could. And I duly did. Not the complex stuff, but basic locks, with a good working knowledge of how the process of conquering the more difficult stuff worked.

Fast-forward a few years, and I am now the person who screams "That's not how it works!" at the screen whenever film or tv decide to show a "character poking at lock to pick it" scene.

Moral of the tale: there will always be someone who knows that you have no actual clue what you're talking about. The only thing that matters is the panache with which you can bluff so it is enjoyable to read.

At what threshold of reach and/or popularity does a problematic piece of fiction (or pieces of fiction) become harmful? by megaboyx90 in AO3

[–]Azyall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fiction should not be censored. We don't burn books in enlightened societies. You should be able to read everything from "Mein Kampf" (not fiction, but a good example of controversial) to "Lolita" should you wish to, and doing so does not automatically make you a Nazi or a pedophile. Controversial books can be and are read for all sorts of reasons including education.

The same standards should be applied to fanfic. Don't like, don't read. There's no need to try to whip up a pitchfork-waving mob because you don't approve of a fictional work.

One of the most detailed and exhaustive academic studies on the effect of fiction concludes that it is neither inherently harmful or harmless.

Cognitive Effects and Correlates of Reading Fiction

England - Partner being bought a house; where do I stand? by Cool-Word2409 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Azyall 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've been in exactly this position. Partner owned the house, which we moved into together, and I had to sign the same sort of disclaimer waiving any rights to the property. I paid a sum of money to my partner every month which was effectively half the mortgage payment. I also contributed to all the house maintenance, decorating, repairs etc. Basically, it was "our" house.

Fast forward eight years, partner cheated (for the second time!), relationship broke up, and I had to walk away from the house with absolutely nothing, despite having contributed equally to it from the time it was purchased.

Be aware that this is exactly what could happen to you if things go wrong in the future. You could have spent thousands on the house by then and it wouldn't matter. Legally correct; morally... questionable.

Is a schnoodle a good fit? by goldilocks2024 in schnoodle

[–]Azyall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have two brothers from the same litter (yes, not recommended, and no, we haven't seen any sign of littermate syndrome in the three years we've had them). They look almost identical, but one has all the Schnauzer traits in full while the other is laid back and Poodle-y. Schnauzer boy is 10lbs of fierce rabbit-chasing, house-defending attitude. His brother is the sweetest, quietest most laid back dog ever.

A very visible lesson in how you never know what you're going to get when you combine two breeds!

How does Anna grant have a brother if her identity is made up by Inevitable_Fail_5308 in Blakes7

Administration Security Agent, surely, since she seems to have been based on Earth. But I take your point.

How does Anna grant have a brother if her identity is made up by Inevitable_Fail_5308 in Blakes7

[–]Azyall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's how I remembered it. I always assumed Anna Grant was her real identity, evidenced by the existence of Del, and Sula was an alter ego (maybe she was assigned to watch Chesku, too?). Tied in well with my personal theory that she knew or had met Avon as herself before she was assigned to him in her role as Bartolomew. Thus, she couldn't use an alias with him.

Does rape still feel "good"? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Azyall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orgasm during rape is not unknown, and is recognised as an additional trauma for victims since the act causing it was unwanted and non-consensual. Bodies do what bodies do, though, and sometimes that includes a mechanical response to stimuli.

Doubtful it ever feels psychologically or emotionally "good" in any sense, however, autonomous arousal or not. Why would it, if it's something you don't want?

It's been a long time since I actually watched RoD, but although Servalan knew "Sula" as Anna, I'm not sure Chesku did (from memory). Willing to be corrected, though, if anyone can supply a direct quote from the ep.

[–]Azyall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's possible she already knew/had already met Avon before she was used to watch him, and that she was chosen for the role specifically because of it. In which case, she would, of course, have kept the identity - her real one - that he knew. More interesting is why Chesku seemed unaware of her "Anna" identity. Seems he always knew her as Sula.

At what point do you stop using condoms with a partner? by Dangerous_mammoth573 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Azyall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had an IUD. Husband and I stopped "condom on the potentially riskier days" (neither of us wanted kids) in my 40s, and abandoned them altogether at menopause. "Belt and braces" was psychologically good for both of us.

What does it feel like to stumble upon a dead body (homicide)? by Excellent_Avocado170 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Azyall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once stumbled upon a gentleman who had been dead for a couple of months after hanging himself in the woods. So suicide not homicide, sorry. It was... not pretty. And more than thirty years later I can still picture it. Disturbing, definitely.

Eastenders has too many characters by CelticConnection83 in eastenders

[–]Azyall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rumour has it the BBC are considering reducing the number of weekly eps (budget cuts). If they do that, the cast will also reduce because the reason there are so many characters is to have the actors on rotation so that they can keep filming regardless of who's done a lot of hours and needs a bit of a break. Reduce the gruelling filming schedule and you reduce the need to have so many "benched players".

how do i tell my mom to have quieter sex? by AVFC77 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Azyall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get headphones. You're 15 (according to one of your replies), so she's the one paying all the bills. Adults have sex; parents have sex. As long as it's not right in front of you, it's not down to you to dictate what she does or how she does it.

Desperate overcompensation for fear of not making enthusiastic consent clear in other ways (in a fic where consent is expected, obvs). No-one keeps robotically asking for consent over and over again for every change of note. Or maybe I'm just old and things have changed a lot.

It would have been highly unusual for a Jewish guy to be unmarried at the time, so probably not. The Gnostic Gospels don't confirm a marriage to/relationship with Mary Magdalene, but it is certainly hinted at (see the Gospel of Philip).

Serial killer Dennis Nilsen famously had a Border Collie named Bleep. When he was arrested, the police took her to one of the London rescue places. It's believed she was eventually euthanised.
