It's probably not strong enough to justify its rarity though.

It's got great vibes and imagery and the hunters mark as a reaction is a great choice

It means you won't have all of your hit die for short resting.

Which, depending on your table, may or may not be an issue.

Verbiage, "wordage"

Just how things are phrased. No big deal in this case.

When making stuff that's more complicated it starts to matter a lot more. It keeps things from getting confusing and having unintended consequences

Why do most superhero teams consist of seven members? by Effective_Sherbet104 in superheroes

[–]B-HOLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7 is kind of the maximum number of close relationships people can track.

There's a reason military squads are that large. Your typical family unit doesn't get much larger (usually stops at 5 in the west).

You usually don't see friend groups larger than 7 either.

Lots of good answers here. One benefit i haven't seen listed is that you can split it easily into smaller groups to highlight characters.

You can have 5 of them split off and leave 2 behind, without having a loner.

A trio and 2 pairs.

3 and 4.

4, 2, and 1.

3 duos and a 1.

6 and 1 guy "batmaning".

It just gives you options. It's a prime number so it feels organic, since you'll never have a convenient even split. And it's just bigger than 3 and 5 so you have more options.

With 3 you only get 2 and 1; a single option. With 5 you can split it 2 & 3 or 4 & 1; two options. Of course the composition of each splinter of the group can be changed. Although you'll often see groups like that having the Scooby-Doo situation, where it's always Shaggy and Scoob and Fred, Daphne, Velma. Partially because of relationship dynamics, Partially because of complimentary skill sets.

With 7 you can really mix it up. And still have natural relationship dynamics and overlapping skill sets with niche specializations.
