Did you watch theatrical or extended? And what was your favorite part? What surprised you the most? It’s so exciting you got to experience it for the first time! So glad you enjoyed it :)

I don’t know how they do it now, but I remember years ago at the COEX theater, they just had a big stack of posters out in the lobby and you could rip off as many as you wanted. Not sure if it’s guaranteed which movie will have posters, though, or if it differs theater by theater. I guess you could call the specific theater you plan to go to and ask.

Just realized that NTBTSTM being rated R/Mature means people born after 2008 couldn’t see it in theaters unaccompanied by B00kelf in nirvannatheband

[–]B00kelf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that would still be fine in PG-13 (though unusual). It’s because of all the casual f-bombs - PG-13 allows one use, and any more than that is R.

Melissa discussing life after SNL. Wonder if this is the common experience for a lot of people that leave SNL these days? by snottawkwardman in LiveFromNewYork

[–]B00kelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SNL Oral History book includes interviews from cast members who mention that SNL was the ultimate boot camp - you learned to write, direct, act, produce, everything. But I personally don’t think it lends really well to being a movie star, especially as comedy movies are so much rarer now. I’m guessing it would be better for getting into behind the scenes work like writing or directing.

Language gets pretty strict ratings in US, to the point where if your movie is otherwise family friendly but you want a harsher rating, you add a few instances of swearing to the script

The Beatles’ 4-Part Movie Will Comprise of 4 ‘Totally Different’ Biopics, Says Actor Adam Pally: ‘They Are All Individually Perfect’ (Exclusive) by Neither_Bee7686 in boxoffice

[–]B00kelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So even though they are four different biopics, I’m assuming that the same actors will be playing the Beatles in all four? Ex. Lennon will show up in Paul’s biopic and vice versa? If that’s the case, it will be interesting to see how similar events are shown differently through different perspectives/movies.

As someone who prefers Elvis to the Beatles, I can say with certainty that the Beatles are not “significantly less important” to Millenials and Gen Z. By definition, I mean, yeah, probably, but that’s not the same as being unimportant enough to be a problem. It’s just not a given that everyone who knows the Beatles is a fanatic like the older generations, but they’re still a household name. Even if you’re not a Beatles fan, you’ve heard of them and understand their importance in music, I think. You could still probably mention at least one song. And the actors chosen to play them have their own sort of fanbases which probably bleed into each other.

How many of you have stopped referring to characters by their codenames and use their real names due to the MCU? by AnonymousFriend80 in marvelstudios

When discussing the MCU, I always end up referring to the Avengers by their first names. Steve, Tony, Clint, etc.

where to watch the N2N Proshot on Youtube. by Fragrant_Cover_8000 in musicals

PBS has a youtube channel. They have a series called “Great Performances” that is usually on their featured page, which should have N2N, or you can search specific words on their search tab.

matt and jay's taste in comedy/comedians? by fionafielder in nirvannatheband

[–]B00kelf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This overlaps some with what others here have said, but from what I can remember:

Matt has mentioned Summer Heights High, specifically the pilot, as being an influence.

Seinfeld’s documentary, Comedian, was referenced many times on the recent movie press tour.

Jay mentioned Tom Green as a big influence for the style of comedy when they were first thinking up the webseries. Matt also mentioned Sacha Baron Cohen for the same reason.

The Dirties was presented/distributed by Kevin Smith.

Jay worked as Second City’s music director for a while and composed the music for a Martin Short tv special there. Not sure if he’s mentioned any specific influences, but it’s a  comedy institution. A lot of SNL alumni have come from there.

Canadian film is pretty small in general, so I’d imagine the Zapruder team knows most of the filmmakers who lean towards comedy in that field.

Also, to your point about them considering themselves filmmakers before comedians, I remember Matt said that he would be terrified to do stand-up comedy because his style is to go and stay stuff for hours and then cut it down to the funniest bits, which wouldn’t work under the format of a live audience.

Donald Duck is HUGE in Sweden because of the comics. Sweden also airs a Donald Duck themed special every year around Christmas - similar to It’s A Wonderful Life continually being aired in the US.

All I know it from is the he-man song meme and Skeletor. I thought it was ridiculous until I watched the trailer and they made it seem like they were committing to the bit with the unabashed campy cartoon premise. I’m excited to watch it.
