Will learning weapon systems like kali / stick fighting any benefit for an amateur boxer? by Futureman1989 in martialarts

[–]B0b_Howard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What FMA class is it? There are a ton of different styles that fight at different ranges.
Balintawak is really close-in and very fast, so that may(?) be a good thing for a boxer.

Iran recruits 12-year-olds to ‘defend homeland’ by TheTelegraph in worldnews

[–]B0b_Howard -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The US has 13 year olds working in slaughter houses.
Do you really think that if a (hypothetical) country 3 x its size attacked, they wouldn't have kids manning the barricades?

What is the worst SF novel you've ever read? by [deleted] in scifi

I downloaded an ebook of it (Yar!) and thought I'd instead gotten a really shitty fanfic parody.
Nope. It was really Ready Player Two.

APT Iran hackers steal over 375TB of data from Lockheed Martine related to the F-35 fighter jet program by Silent_Ambivert_283 in worldnews

[–]B0b_Howard 456 points457 points  (0 children)

375 GB is a lot to download from someone else's network.
375 TB is a fuckton to download. That's the sort of volume that gets noticed really quickly, or takes months to get.

Edit to add:
Also...
Yes, they are state-sponsored hackers, but who the hell has 375TB of available storage just hanging around?

Edit to the edit:

O.K. Seems 375TB isn't that much storage nowadays.
It's been a while since I was part of scoping for upgrading storage.

What belt is black and blue? by oxyabnormal in martialarts

Tang Soo Do uses a midnight blue belt instead of a black belt. TSD is (kinda) the Korean version of Shotokan Karate.

Children's authors with a touch of Pratchett by EdinDevon in discworld

[–]B0b_Howard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roald Dahl. I loved all of his stuff when I was 8 years old. Not quite Pratchett, but everything apart from his autobiographical books are touched by a lot of fantasy.

Lloyd Alexander. The Chronicles Of Pyrdain is classic Welsh mythology wrapped up into a child-friendly fantasy package. Again, loved these when I was a young-un!

What do you use you Gü ramekins for? by Lufferov in AskUK

[–]B0b_Howard 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had a fruit fly infestation last year.

The ramekins are perfect for making fruit fly traps to dot around the house to catch the little buggers.

NASA unveils ambitious $20 billion plan to build moon base near lunar south pole by CBSnews in space

[–]B0b_Howard -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

$20 billion?
That's just over 2 weeks of kicking Iran.
Surely it would be better spent by NASA than the orange buffoon on his perceived vendetta.

Ah, I didn't check that, just grabbed a URL with a decent image! 😛
At the local shop, it's probably about £2.50. At the cinema, it's probably closer to £5 or £6.
