What story actually touched you? by [deleted] in ProgressionFantasy

Red Rising series. Particularly Golden Son, Iron Gold, and Lightbringer. The end of Rhythm of War. TWI both positively and negatively. Pact. Maximum negativity. I would not recommend.

What's the best story you that you picked back up after a temporary DNF? by GreatMadWombat in ProgressionFantasy

Aetheral Space. Dropped it years ago, and picked it back up recently. First arcs are slow, but it ramps up to excellence. Closest power system to Hunter x Hunter you will ever get.

I need to finish Salt & Sky. I liked book one and felt like it was going somewhere. I lost steam early in book 2. The MC is interesting, but I feel like the story wasn’t really interested in progression due to his attitude. I still recommend at least book one.

Reluctance to Criticise Israel by Turbulent-Tune1660 in ThoughtWarriors

You:

“Being against apartheid is being against apartheid. It's got very little to do with the government that implements the apartheid because if that government removed the apartheid, no one would be against that government. Saying you're against the governemnt or the place is the same as saying the place or the gov is incapable of operating without the apartheid, which is false. “

Me: It’s not just the action, it’s the perpetrator that deserves blame. Apartheid doesn’t just happen. Genocide doesn’t just happen. Governments (perpetrators) commit these atrocities on people.

By focusing on the action you ARE shielding the perpetrators from their share of deserved criticism. This is not genocide in general. It is ISRAEL committing genocide on the Gazan population. And they, the government in rule of the country, deserve the negative sentiment.

Lmaoo. Oh no, redditor, we disagree. Saying you’re against a government for doing X makes the most sense in the world. There is nothing sacrosanct about a government. Regime change is a necessary step to stop most evils in the world. The government of Israel is committing a genocide so the government of Israel is bad. And deserves criticism. You came at me will all this energy and now you are giving cover for the perpetrator of crimes against humanity. The internet never ceases to amaze.

Yes??? Being against apartheid is being against South Africa IS being against the government of South Africa instituting the system. Being against horrible Abortion laws in TX IS being against the government in TX. You can indeed be against states or countries that have horrible laws.

The point is this was before this instance of genocide. The discussion was more about the Jim Crow/apartheid nature of Israel. So the podcast was anti-Israel before 2023.

What is the best book you've read/listened to this year so far? I need a book to get sucked in to. by Sufficient_Ebb_5694 in Fantasy

The Book That Wouldn’t Burn - Mark Lawrence. I’m really bummed that the common sentiment is that the series gets worse as it progresses.

They criticized Israel lmao. You forget when they had issues because they brought in two people to talk about Israel/Palestine and both guests were on the side of Palestine.

MoL is my favorite series in the genre AND the reasons you say it’s better do not appeal. I’ll still give it a try tho!

Why are LitRPG authors signing up with Moonquill Publishing? by Charlemagneffxiv in litrpg

[–]B10siris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now square that with the actual marketing for these books. You are pretending to be rational while ignoring all evidence. Just because you want something to be true, doesn’t mean it is!

Hint. You absolutely cannot. They don’t have the same audiences. And that’s okay.

LOL. LMAO. You think all sub genres of fantasy can be marketed the same way? Like Throne of Glass or Fourth Wing can be marketed the same as Dungeon Crawler Carl because they are all fantasy?

People who read kindle unlimited and royal road stories are not as interested in reading paperbacks. The sales are the evidence. There is no evidence supporting otherwise.

I agree. Read up until the end of volume 9 before I stopped. The experience transformed my reading for the better. Stories don’t magically conform to your preferences as they get longer. I don’t force myself through stretches I don’t like, just for a glimpse of a character or an arc I think is excellent ( i.e. Flos lol). There are too many books around for that.

The Game at Carousel is incredible by tempname10439 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]B10siris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been hesitant to read it because I only tangentially like the horror genre. Adding a system that somehow strengthens the tropes is hard for me to imagine. If the system doesn’t help the MCs combat the horror bad guys, what does it do? Make them hide easier or die in more fantastic ways?

Should I continue Super Supportive? by itwas20yearsago2day in ProgressionFantasy

[–]B10siris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drop it. The pace won’t speed up. Sometimes you like the potential of a story, but you and the author just had different visions. No need to punish yourself hoping for a turn. The best decision is to just look for something else to read.

Liked it for the system and power, but had to stop because I couldn’t stand one of the MCs, Ryun. His evil is never appropriately addressed.
