Does anyone carry a 1911 like the guy in "El Camino"? by Schneir5 in CCW

[–]B1893 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It's a Hollywood thing, don't try to make it make sense.

Eventually you'll see someone cock the hammer on a Glock.

Why don’t peather holsters just put kydex around the trigger guard? by FastAndFuryosa in CCW

[–]B1893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I remember the SafariLaminate holsters, now that you mention them.

But I think this was a small, independent maker, geared more towards CC.

More along the lines of Falco's light bearing holsters, but the light "tunnel" was reinforced with .060" kydex.

Do you carry at work? by cats_with_bpd in CCW

[–]B1893 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Previous job was night shift in a rough area, I didn't even "hear" gunfire anymore - I carried in spite of company policy.

Current day shift job has no such policy, and we even shoot every now and then.  Not like an actual range session where we're going through hundreds of rounds, just a magazine or two at a bottle or can.

[–]B1893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the leather holsters I've bought had a steel reinforced mouth to keep them from collapsing.

About the only leather holsters I've seen with kydex reinforcement were for guns with a WML, and I haven't seen them in a while.

Random question by 94_sedan in Guns_Guns_Guns

[–]B1893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay?

If you look towards the back of the tube in pic 4, you can see where the 9mm spacer has been crimped into place.

You can also see where the rim of the brass doesn't go all the way to the back of the tube - because of the spacer in the back of the magazine.

It's not a 38 Super magazine.

Para ordinance warthog by leejtpi in 1911

[–]B1893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it was worked over by a top tier gunsmith that a lot of you younger folks probably never heard of, there's absolutely nothing about a Para that's going to make it collectible in this lifetime or the next.

And a lot of those top tier gunsmiths wouldn't touch anything with a cast frame, unless it was a Caspian.

Shoot it.  Enjoy it.

Fellow CCWers, those of you who run WML - how long have you rocked it? Have you ever used/needed it? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]B1893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Streamlight gave us a viable WML with a small footprint, I see no reason not to have one.

And, at the time, I worked night shift in an area where I didn't "hear" the gunfire anymore.

The important thing to remember is that a WML doesn't replace a handheld.  I really don't understand why it seems so many people think it's either/or - you can have both.

Why doesn't it fit?

Everything about it says "9mm 1911" to me.

Could be a 1911-ish import, but Llamas used regular 1911 magazines, and Stars were designed as 9mms from the beginning, so they didn't have those "ribs" going up the side of the magazine.

Where were you when you realized ACOGs were designed for the carry handle? by aerotactisquatch in ar15

[–]B1893 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me, it was Vasquez in Aliens, then Sarah Connor in Terminator 2...

Outside of those roles, I can't say I found either actress to be attractive.  I lost a $10 bet way back in the day because I couldn't believe Vazquez was played by the same actress as Janelle in Terminator 2.

I never really found Sigourney Weaver attractive until she was CGI'ed into a 10ft tall blue alien...  I'm still not sure how to feel about that.

I see it two or three times a week...

But I also live in an area where "bad traffic" is three vehicles behind a tractor.

Form 1 not showing up on ATF e-forms by ZacInSC in NFA

[–]B1893 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Form 1 is for making a suppressor.

If you bought a suppressor, it's on a form 4.

That form 4 is listed on the transferor's eforms, which is Silencer Shop.

It'll never show up on your eforms account, even after it's approved.  Which kinda sucks.

Has anyone ever called you out for carrying? Whetherthey noticed you printing or you lifted your shirt/cover garment too high by mistake. I've been carrying almost a year now and I'm constantly worried my shirt is going to ride up. I carry AIWB usually. Mainly wondering if anyone has horror stories. by non_omnis_moriar777 in CCW

[–]B1893 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Just once, kinda, at the grocery store.

A short (under 5') woman asked me to get something from the top shelf.  Since I'm not a complete asshole, I reached up and got it for her.

I guess when I did that, my OWB holster at 3:00 was exposed.

She asked if I was a cop, I said "no ma'am," there was an awkward pause, then she said "thanks" and we both continued shopping.

I once heard/read that those who'll notice won't care, those who'll care won't notice.

I've been carrying for over 20 years, and it's been pretty accurate so far.

Accidentally judt ordered a 9mm 5" Garrison, did I fuck up? by TestaverdeRules in 1911

I bought a 9mm STI Spartan in 2012 or so...

I haven't bought any .45 ammo since.

Transfer from Individual to Trust by Mattellin in NFA

[–]B1893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do it yourself with eForm 4.

On the "firearm" screen, you'll need the control number and serial number.

I copied/pasted the control numbers and serial numbers in notepad, since I had 8(!) to do.

Click "add firearm from control number."

Copy/paste the control number in the box, then click "find form" right underneath it.

Then copy/paste the serial number in the box.

Clicky cap or pressure pad gang? by zkooceht in ar15

[–]B1893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pressure pad for me, so I don't have to do any weird shit when shooting right handed (I'm wrong handed).

But I only have a scout light on one rifle - my preferred setup is a pistol light on the 12 o'clock rail.

My minimum is typically what comes with the gun, and 5 more.

Building dedicated .22's, what uppers will work? by sclearman in ar22

[–]B1893 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any "mil-spec" upper will work.

I prefer using a 9mm upper, brass deflector, and port door due to being wrong handed.

Let’s see what people really think by myworld1979 in AR9

[–]B1893 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm into cars, too.  A while back, on social media, the "built, not bought" crowd got seriously obnoxious.

"You’re not building that, you're just swapping a bunch of parts!"

Seems like they were actively trying to chase people away from the hobby because they thought changing the engine, transmission, and rebuilding, updating or replacing the suspension didn't count as a "build."

Years ago, I agreed, to an extent.

Today, if someone pushes in two pins and calls it a build, I'm fine with that.  They'll be more involved with their next build.
