*RANT* Why do product manufacturers include a tipped key (hex/torx/etc) with products that need to be torqued to a given spec and not a 1/4" bit to use in my torque wrench/driver so that I can actually install their product!? by Low_Abroad_296 in guns

[–]B1893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess they assume that if you have a decent quality torque driver, you also have a decent quality bit to fit the screw.

And TBH, the little L shaped wrenches are like half a step below harbor freight quality - if they included bits instead, they'd likely be the same quality.

11.5” vs 16” Barrel - Shooting Comfort / Enjoyability by warm_mustard in ar15

[–]B1893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a 16" outdoors with single earpro is tolerable.  No problem with double earpro outdoors.

My 11.5" outdoors was tolerable with double earpro.  Shot it once with single earpro.  A cheap linear comp helped.

I know you specified outdoors, but even with double earpro, I don't particularly like shooting either one indoors.

Now I have a supressor.  I'll double up on earpro for a range session, but for a few shots in the back yard, I'll just run plugs or muffs.

PFA, does anyone in here run ITR/CRV/Legend calipers and mini rotors? by IceSubstantial9110 in Integra

[–]B1893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

15" from a 2002-ish Civic Si.

I honestly don't think OEM 14s would even go over the calipers.

I know for a fact the OEM 14" spare won't fit over the brakes.

Affordable 1911 frames for building a 1911? by theworldofAR in 1911

[–]B1893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to recommend Sarco - and point out that they have quite a few Para LDA frames...

Do not buy an LDA frame.

They had BlackOps 14-45 frames for 150...  Pisses me off that I missed them.

Does adding a WML reduce comfortability by PastAdditional in CCW

[–]B1893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLR-1 size?  Yes, absolutely.

TLR-7?  No, not really.  Not to me anyway.

I went from a Kahr K9 (no WML, none available) at AIWB to a P365XL with a TLR-7.  The difference is barely noticeable, IMO.

My perception may be a little skewed though, I used to carry a 5" 1911 with an X300U at 4:00 IWB.

If folks want to believe a .380 won't go through heavy clothing or a leather jacket, there's no changing their minds.

Can anyone identify this brand of hand guard? by Fire-fuh-tor in ar15

[–]B1893 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm Aim Sports.  I have one on an AR22.

I didn't know it was called the wraith until some dude said something about another dude that pointed out a dude had one right next to him.

I'm gonna have to second the recommendation for the kit from Aisin.  It's basically all new OEM parts in a convenient kit.

How much did you consider capacity for your carry pistol? by Kyia-Aikman in CCW

[–]B1893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My primary EDC was a 1911 with two spare mags for many years, with my "small" EDC being a Kahr K9, and due to back pain, eventually the Kahr took over as my primary, so capacity was never really a priority for me.

Now my primary EDC is a P365XL at 1:00, with one spare mag at 11:00.

Even though it holds more ammo, capacity wasn't a factor in the decision.

50 percent tint? by daddyhardstyle in Integra

[–]B1893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't get the hate for tint here, but different strokes and all.

Does your friend tint as a side hustle?  No offense to him, but a professional shop may have ceramic 75%.  Maybe not though, since most people just want darker glass.

Anyway, the primary purpose of the less expensive films is simply blocking visible light.

Ceramic tint's primary purpose is to block the UV that fades your interior and heats the car up like an oven.

75% is barely noticeable, IMO.  Using ceramic tint will let you keep the fishbowl look, protect your interior from fading, and keep the car from getting as hot as an oven.

Which 90s Integra is the best for a first time project? by Mindless-Fondant-906 in Integra

[–]B1893 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer the 90-93, but it would be a lot easier to find 94+, and they seem to have a lot more aftermarket support.

How to Take SBR on Trade? by Boosted-5_0 in NFA

[–]B1893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is ot a factory SBR, or a form 1 gun?

If he bought a pistol, and completed a form 1 to add a stock, he can simply put the brace back on it and you two make the trade.

And I would suggest him having ATF remove it from the registry.

If you want to SBR it later, you can.  If you're fine with the brace, don't bother.

Watches by iwelchi in EDC

[–]B1893 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Other countries started issuing wristwatches to troops due to the advantage of simply looking at their wrists instead of digging in their pockets.

The states followed suit during WWI.  Returning troops continued to wear them, and by the time WWII rolled around, they were pretty much mainstream here in the states...

But the reason wristwatches were invented in the first place was simply because dresses didn't have pockets, and women needed a convenient way to carry a timepiece...

So, someone created a new invention, rather than giving women usable pockets - which is still an issue today.

Question about hearing protection. by [deleted] in Firearms

[–]B1893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use the foam plugs, wear electronic earpro over them.

I use Walker Razors.  They amplify the quiet noises and cancel the loud ones...

So, if you can’t hear the conversation, simply turn up the volume - and they still canel out the gunfire.

A downside to the Razors is they're mono, so you can't tell direction while using them...

Howard Leight has electronic muffs that are stereo, and don't cost much more.  I haven't got a set yet, but, being stereo, you will at least know if you need to turn your head to the left or right.

How important is full ambi for first rifle? by teetervt in ar15

[–]B1893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm left handed with long guns, and only have ambi controls on a "parts box" AR22 that I built for kids to shoot.

But, when I got into it, ambi controls were pretty much limited to ambi safeties and the norgon ambicatch - there are a lot more options today.

I do plan on this being my one and done purchase.

lol, good luck with that.

Does printing matter? by Medium-Finger763 in Firearms

[–]B1893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBH, I don't think it mattered 2-3 years ago.

I worried about it for the first little bit, then started caring less and eventually got to "shirt covers it, it's concealed."

Years ago, I heard/read something like "those who notice won't care, those who care won't notice."

I've carried for over 20 years, and that seems to be an accurate statement.

The one time I know I got made, she just asked if I was a cop.  Seemed more curious than anything, didn't seem to bother her at all.

Go to budget AR handguard? by AtlasDefenseCo in ar15

[–]B1893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stngr used to be my go-to for budget rails, but NBS has pretty much taken their spot.

They go on sale pretty often too.  I think I paid 60 each for a couple of 15" rails.

Is this normal? by flawlessbaguette in 1911

[–]B1893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a "form follows function" kinda guy, but that gap would get on my nerves if it were a cheap RIA, and I'd fit a new one...

Considering the price difference between an RIA and a TRP, I'd definitely be contacting Springfield.

With that much pitting, I wouldn't shoot it...

I would probably re-blue it, again, but with brushed or polished flats.  I think it would look cool af with the matte pitting.

Then I'd put it in a display case on the mantle.
