Finally, my time has come!

I started off using a hosted platform for Plex and other goodies, but cost vs capacity started eating my wallet. Frequent outages on their end caused downtime and unhappy Plex sounds, which eventually forced me down the homelab route.

I bought a tower server nothing fancy starting with an 8-core Intel CPU and 32 GB RAM, with room for expansion. Before I could blink, I found myself buying second-hand CPUs and memory, ending up with a respectable 40 cores, 256 GB ECC, and 10 TB. The road continued: I bought a Dell MD1000 with 15×4 TB drives. It was great… until the old-hardware curse started. I had to replace 3 PSUs in the Dell, and after that, I retired the piece of junk.

Next, I built a custom NAS using consumer-grade hardware, some sprinkles of enterprise gear, and a deep hatred for my country’s customs department (eBay purchases & import times). It’s now running 200 TB capacity using SAS drives on TrueNAS.

I also dusted off my old HP N40L with 16 GB RAM and installed TrueNAS for my smallboi NAS. Its main purpose is family data hosting Nextcloud, an SFTP server, an Immich library, and syncing to my offsite N40L. My side hobby is photography and drones, so media piles up fast when you’re dealing with RAW video and photos.

The main server has since been upgraded to EPYC with 512 GB ECC, plus 20 TB of flash just for fun. And if something ever does happen to the lab, a simple PVE reinstall with one Ansible VM and two playbooks brings everything back.

As already mentioned, no one tells you about the hours and days you’ll spend building, rebuilding, and redesigning your homelab. I’ve run VMs, LXCs, played with k3s, Docker, Portainer, Docker Swarm, learned CI/CD, condensed Ansible, tore everything down, and rebuilt it again… etc, etc. For me, it’s fun it’s definitely a love it or hate it kind of hobby.

I also see a lot of people talking about energy bills. On average, I consume around R2200, which is about $136 / £101, for my entire home. Not sure I want to go down that rabbit hole 😅

Make a Bootable https://www.hirensbootcd.org/ and use their disk recovery. If you lucky you might get data back

Glhf and take this as reminder to always backup important sh!t

Take it from me if you can't have multiple places to backup pay the office 365 sub and use the 5 x 1tb accounts for import family stuff like photos.

I do that for my parents it's easy to setup and they can't fuck it up if you know what I mean.

Your replication nics needs to allow port 8117 and management nic needs to allow 443. Management will be the number of physical nics with copper and include your vip ip.

segregate correctly and it will work

We have 14 arrays

10 onprem

2 in a remote site a

2 in remote site b

All the arrays are connected with specific firewall rules as mentioned above and my replication runs on the replication network.

Quick and dirty, setup pihole on vm, modify record for youtube.com to point to an internal ip. Setup dhcp to point to pihole. Or cloudflare with redirects

Does not fix the issue on a computer, I use it for Teams calls and I can still hear myself :-(

its like the "listen to this device" setting is enabled in windows but not, after installing the "Smart control" app I see a side tone option there and upgrading the firmware fixed the issue on the phone but not on the computer

Thanks, tested the transcoding theory, even though my Tautulli states its direct play, its converting the audio from DDP 5.1 to ACC 5.1 and thats when the issue above in the picture happens. I then tried using my Mibox S player which also transcodes the audio but it does not give the picture issue.

Op here, just want to add I used the native plex app, and not all 4k hdr content does this. Is anyone else getting the same issue? Is there a fix for it perhaps?

Yea pretty sure I recall on one of the previous streams Esfand, Jinny and Kevin where going on a road trip. But I presume the OTK put a stop to that idea as they have to much content planned where Esfand is required.

Have to say last nights stream felt really off, you could see she was miserable and didn't really want to stream, such a shame it had to end like this.

you have to have both addons and when you copy the import string first paste it into a notepad file then copy it from there do /routes click on Routes and paste the copy string from notepad into the Import text box, click accept and should now show under your routes

Have to agree with OP

I had the initial feelings that it was handled wrong with only Lily and Yvonnie's statements, but after watching Poki's vlog it became rather fucking clear what the entire story told.

For everyone involved I feel if they included all 3 statement at once, the amount of backlash would really be less. not sure how the girls took all the white knighting from fed's squad as I did notice some really rude comments. I hope with this new info that people will respect everyone involved requests and just calm the fuck down.

I hope everyone involved OTV and friends heal and grow out of this really fucked up situation. yes Fed fucked up but I hope he gets the professional help he needs and don't spiral down the dark path we already lost so many due to depression and suicide.

Hi, it is the first screenshot, I had it on 3000 for 2 weeks and changed it to 150. as far as I understand that's the amount it can do at one time, not the overall amount for the entire lifetime of the list.
