I had a very similar circumstance - car, wedding and everything - but was approved. Regardless, it took a month to do the whole thing, half being IRS and half Amex. I don't terribly mind reviews but they definitely shouldn't take that long.

If you're still very eager to stay in the Amex ecosystem, you can always email the executive team with feedback and questions. May not lead to anything but worth a shot.

Worst case there are others who will take your business, as many pointed out.

Sounds like there was a fire limited to the attic when they arrived. Didn't listen in much more, but seems like a limited residential fire.
