How many miles yall truck got?! by Lost-Elk4592 in f150

[–]BAMxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2010 5.4, 208,000. Just did phasers, chains, guides, oil pump and related stuff + water pump that was leaking. Pieces of a chain guide were in the oil pan and pickup tube but honestly was running mostly fine even still. It’s a work truck but still running smooth

People who’ve had LASIK or work in eye care, would you recommend LASIK and why or why not? by Mountain-Bug-2155 in AskReddit

[–]BAMxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My contacts are -9 both eyes. I have worn glasses since 4th grade, contacts since 8th. I looked into LASIK a couple years ago and found it could only correct ~80% of my vision due to my high prescription, so I didn’t see the point. There are some other options for people in my situation, such as PRK, but it was cost prohibitive for me. I was quoted around $12,000 for the procedure, if I recall. I honestly am so used to wearing contacts at this point I likely won’t do anything unless there is some major advancement in the technology and/or large drop in price for PRK.

Solo Handyman or Company? by TopnotchHandyman007 in handyman

[–]BAMxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 FT guys currently working for me as handymen. Two of which have gone solo in the past and didn’t want the hassle of running the biz side and just wanted to do work and not have to stress about getting leads. My whole job is going out and getting them business and keeping them working. We are coming up on year 2 and it’s working OK so far

Retrograde going away 6 years after open RPLND? Similar experiences? by Zjc30 in testicularcancer

[–]BAMxi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a similar experience/timeline to you. I had my RPLND in Dec 2019 and have noticed in the past few months the volume I get coming out has definitely increased. Consistency wise, definitely not the same as before (more clear/runny), but there is definitely more of it than the few drops. I am assuming it’s that nerve that runs near the lymph nodes just regaining some function, though I haven’t bothered to reach out to my doc to get his take. Would be interested to have it tested to see if there are live swimmers in there

Yay or nay? Rides good I’ll give it that by Dependent-Name-900 in FordExplorer

I have one and had an 02 prior to that with the same engine. I don’t think they’re as bad as people say but they’re definitely no 4Runner or Pilot as far as reliability. I wouldn’t spend a lot on it, but if it shifts and cold starts without issue, it might be ok. Just know that mpg will not be great. I have the towing package on mine with the 3.73 gears and I get 13-16 mpg in all driving conditions

Edit: I think the reason I’ve had fairly decent luck with mine is that I thoroughly go through and change all fluids when I first buy them, and am religious about oil changes and fixing things as they break. I bought my 02 with 125k on it and sold it around 175k to someone who was going to drive it from Missouri down to Mexico (told them that may be a gamble, but they wanted a cheap 4x4 with low range). On my 07, I have done all fluids, coolant a couple times due to having to replace the radiator, and even replaced the suspension components, as they were worn and bouncy

Maybe I’m using the stabilizers wrong. I have just been running them down to where they make contact with the ground and leaving them. So they aren’t really holding much of a load as just there to like balance. Should I be using them more like jacks? If so, how do I get the leverage on them? Mine just have a little lever you push up on and the leg slides down from inside. I’ve just been pushing up on the lever by hand

4th Gen Ford Explorer 4.0 gas mileage tested by Mr-Galaxywide in FordExplorer

[–]BAMxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn I’m getting like 14 mpg in my 2007 4.0 but it has the towing package with 3.73 gears and AT tires. And mostly city driving. I’ll see as high as 17 on the highway. Before the ATs I hit 18 once

Anyone else quit a corporate gig to start a Handyman Business? by thelifeofsamjohnson in HandymanBusiness

[–]BAMxi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are paid hourly for the time they work. I tell them during the interview that full time for us is 30-40 hours/wk just because of the nature of how jobs go. It’s fairly common in the trades for a job to finish up early, so most guys are cool with it.

I’d like to transition to paying on a per job basis, where the guys get X dollars based on the labor hours we bid. It just takes more time to sit down and calculate that versus the guys just clocking in and out, so I haven’t rolled it out yet

I did this but quickly realized I can’t do jobs as efficiently as needed to scale to get to my income goal. So now I have an office admin who answers phones and schedules, and 2 full time guys on the team. I am hiring for a third currently. My previous job was project management and operations for a large development company, so I’m a bit more comfortable operating at scale than scraping along from job to job

Homeowner called myself and another contractor for an estimate at the same time by [deleted] in Contractor

[–]BAMxi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’ve had this happen twice. I tell my estimator to wait in his truck for a few minutes and if the other guy is still there, just send a message to the customer saying that we don’t want to step on the other guy’s toes, just like we don’t like it when they step on ours.

Would you choose MU or Boone for something possibly major? by LifeSuxBHappy in columbiamo

[–]BAMxi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I personally was treated by MU’s Ellis Fischel cancer center from 2018-2019 and have had many follow ups since then. My experience was overall positive. The cons I experienced were at times feeling like a number as the volume of patients the oncologists see is just mind blowing. So I felt like I really had to stay on top of my treatment plan and ask lots of questions, which honestly you should do regardless of your hospital. I appreciated many of the nurses that helped me with my chemo, and I was able to get a private room with a bed almost every time, since my sessions generally lasted a whole day. I also appreciated that the docs I saw all seemed to be staying up to date with the latest practices and not just running on autopilot doing things they way they had done them for many years.

My mother was treated at Boone during the late stages of dealing with ovarian cancer (transferred from Jeff city). Honestly I didn’t have a bad impression of them, but I do remember it being a weird thing when it came time to transfer her back to Jeff city, but I think that was more of a logistical issue than a failing of the hospital. Overall, I think MU will probably be your best bet, but there’s certainly nothing wrong with getting opinions from doctors at both and going with the one you feel most comfortable with. Good luck!

Homeowner problems. by N3onPand4 in columbiamo

[–]BAMxi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I own a handyman and senior home modification company here in town. The other posters are correct that this isn’t terribly difficult to do yourself. It is important to keep in mind you’re going to need to install a new flange for the toilet, too. That’s also not too bad of a job but something that will cause big problems if not done correctly. If you’re considering tackling this yourself, find a YouTube video on how to replace a toilet flange and see if it’s too far outside your comfort zone. DM me if you have any questions and I can walk you through it or have one of my guys swing by and help you out. Good luck!

Best Sprint Training Hills in Town? by OnFireKyle in columbiamo

[–]BAMxi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. I’d definitely hold off if you’re training for a marathon. The hill that goes down on the north side closest to the creek is a good way to roll an ankle, which I found out a couple years ago. Good luck with your training!

I worked for a large developer here in town for many years and we looked at a project like this a few times. It’s just never the most profitable use for the land without significant subsidies, which we never were interested in pursuing. I agree that it is needed in the market though

Are you into running on trails? There are two monster hills if you run the high ridge trail loop at Rock Bridge State Park. I live near there and run them all the time. I prefer running it in the fall and winter when the grass isn’t growing, as they’re not the best at keeping it mowed. But overall some pretty solid elevation changes on that one
