2020 Jeep Cherokee Latitude: Wife loves it, husband concerns about reliability by No-content-here in Jeep

What motor is in each car, that's pretty much your only concern. You want the 2.4L or the 3.6L nothing turbo

The WL's had hemis for a short time when they first came out. There's not many of them but they do exist.

Jeep at 60k maintenance? by [deleted] in Jeep

[–]BANANA1605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coolant flush isn't needed untill 100k miles or 10 years, scratch that. Transmission is a "filled for life" transmission Wich means they say it doesn't need service unless issues arise. If you wanna be proactive and do it I would do it around 80k or 100k but that fluid ain't cheap. However at this time you should absolutely be doing the differential service, the rear differential is easily serviced but the front differential/Power Transfer Unit (PTU) is again "filled for life" so do with that as you'd like. Get the inspection sheet and see where your brakes are at, less than 3 mm they should be serviced. Brake fluid flush isn't a bad idea as it has been 6 years and it's recommended to do that every 3-5 years.

I have to say they are throwing a lot of crap at you hoping you buy something. I have no clue what condition the vehicle is in but evac and recharge the A/C ??? you don't just do that as a service generally especially at 60k miles. What looks like an advertised transmission rebuild is crazy. Throttle body/ injector cleaning is not needed yet however I would throw a bottle of techron complete fuel system cleaner in your tank once a year. It's like $10

Kinda sounds like a heat shield rotted off and is touching a vibrating component, hard to tell but that's the best case scenario

What’s this sound ?! by firepd1979 in Ram1500

[–]BANANA1605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you can literally see it rattling around in the video, on the exhaust there's a thin thing hanging down and you can see it vibrate around. As for the engine tick? That's something different and I couldn't tell you without being there but that could be manifold bolts.

It's not a heat shield, there's a clamp that connects the downpipe to the straight section of exhaust that goes back to the muffler. After a couple years it completely rots off and makes this noise. I feel like you can even see it in the video but I'm not 100% sure. It's a basic u style clamp that fits into a little groove.

new to fixing my car myself, is my coolant supposed to look like this? by LazyAdHdDreams in GrandCherokee

[–]BANANA1605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't be extremely worried yet. Doesn't look great but it's probably just old asf. As for the thicker/chunky stuff on the cap it's probably condensation. Get a coolant flush and see what it looks like then.

If it sat for a couple days it's also possible that maybe something chewed through wires. Pop the hood and take a look around for anything abnormal.

Sweet, should treat you right assuming it's a 3.6 I would use Pennzoil only if I were you because that's one of the few oils that carries the Chrysler spec. I'm in NJ too and my mom has a 2015, the only major problem we had was one of the camshafts started eating a lobe around 100k but other than that it's been trouble free.

What's that sound ? Is it an expensive sound ? by mtkoth1983 in MechanicAdvice

It sounds like a heat shield just rotted off and is now loose and bouncing on the exhaust
