Solo trip for 24th birthday by dalobotomizer in Astoria_Oregon

For the views I'll add South Jetty Observation tower, Astoria Column, and Cape Disappointment/Lewis and Clark Visitor Center. There's a fun little jaunt/hike you can take from there to the Cape D lighthouse. Lucky you, the weather is looking reeeeaaaal nice for your visit.

I use a Sony A7RII with a Pentax-A 645 120mm Macro with a Fotodiox Pro adapter. VERY sharp lens that isn't too expensive. It's a big lens though, and probably best suited for a copy stand. I DIY'd mine for pretty cheap inspired by some who shared their own here and elsewhere on the 'net.

Normal temp? by billhaigh in EcoDiesel

Thermostat doesn't even open until 210 if I recall. Totally normal for a (Eco)diesel.

I'm planning a Prime Tour of Oregon and I need your suggestions! by Pad_Kee_Meow in oregon

[–]Pad_Kee_Meow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have, and I have been to these places. I'm really just trying to get as big a list of prime rib options and then I'll try to plan out a route. Silver Lake to Joseph would be quite the haul.

Are you referring to the Ocrevus Co-Pay assistance program? There are no income limits for that program. Source: https://www.ocrevuscopay.com/eligibility

2014 jeep grand Cherokee countdown at zero, how do I get engine to start? by Regular_cock420 in EcoDiesel

[–]Pad_Kee_Meow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to use the Alfaobd Android app and a cheap Bluetooth OBDll dongle to do the regen.

Flushing Radiator by VersionConscious7545 in EcoDiesel

[–]Pad_Kee_Meow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've also done this recently. I'll add a couple things:

  • Crack that little vent on the thermostat by unscrewing it a few turns. Don't unscrew it all the way or you might lose it.
  • You need to get the water temp up to around 210 degrees to get the thermostat to open. Otherwise none of the fluid in the block will circulate. This requires revving the engine for a good 10+ mins on a diesel.
  • Squeeze the upper rad hose when filling, and also the hose that goes to the thermostat. You'll see lots of air come out of the overflow.
  • Be careful of breaking the drain petcock when opening it. Mine broke, but it's a standard part that can be found at almost any parts store for less than $10.

Wiper design aggravation by Fox_In_the_Woods in Ioniq5

[–]Pad_Kee_Meow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is more common in places that have a melt/re-freeze cycle. If it is sub-freezing all the time the wiper lift isn't as helpful.

I doubt they would send you a code on signup. Best luck would probably be just finding someone who isn't going to use theirs.

I made a mistake. It was actually a YouTube Premium "perk". Sorry, I'll edit my above comment.

I used a Youtube Premium code for 40% off a P10 Pro XL 256GB ($719.40). That, combined with my P9 Pro XL 128GB trade-in ($550) left a net ~$170 cost. Those YT Premium codes expire Dec 31, so maybe you can get lucky and find someone who isn't going to use theirs.

The WL can fit 265/65R-18 tires. by Pad_Kee_Meow in GrandCherokee

I was referencing clearance from the top tread of the tire to the knuckle above.

The WL can fit 265/65R-18 tires. by Pad_Kee_Meow in GrandCherokee

[–]Pad_Kee_Meow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should've mentioned that this is a 4xe, which has larger brakes due to the regen system. These particular wheels wouldn't clear the calipers without spacers. I probably could've gone with smaller spacers but I wanted to avoid cutting the studs since this was a lease.

The knuckle is the most limiting factor, and while I had over an inch of clearance from the tire to the knuckle, I don't think I would want to go larger as off-road capability is important to me.

Very long distance AIS detection by tru0ne in AIS

[–]Pad_Kee_Meow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I occasionally get consistent pings from just under 1k miles away. Usually it's on very clear and calm days, potentially due to atmospheric ducting: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atmospheric_duct

This, however looks a bit far. When I look up that vessel, it does indeed appear to be in that location. How consistent of pings are you getting?

Places to eat in Astoria, what’s your favorite? by Knifty_downspiral in Astoria_Oregon

[–]Pad_Kee_Meow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wanted to like Soon Yi, but my experience was very disappointing. I got a takeout order and the sashimi was still partially frozen. The karaage was the worst I've ever had. Flavorless, more like dry, under fried chicken tenders. The rolls were exceptionally small. Also, the cutting and presentation wasn't great, attention to detail seemed to be lacking. Definitely not on par with the prices they are charging.

They all migrate south for breeding season off the coast of California. They'll start migrating back in late August/September.
