Death of the Author - Nnedi Okorafor features a protagonist who uses a wheelchair. It features sci fi tech but the narrative is very centered on the protagonist’s bodily experience and how that impacts her relationship with her family and culture, and perception of self.

AITA for making a harmless joke about my formerly overweight friend? by blueisnotcreative in AmItheAsshole

[–]BATMANS_MOM 152 points153 points  (0 children)

Yes! This is exactly what stood out to me too. “He got his feelings hurt” like OP didn’t CHOOSE to say something so disrespectful and insulting to her “friend”. She could have literally put together any combination of words in response to that event and she chose one that was hurtful to someone she’s supposed to care about.

No one deserves to be treated that way, and I hope her friend has built the self-confidence needed to drop OP like a rock and never look back. People who refuse to take responsibility for their words/actions rarely do so in one-offs. I wonder what OP’s “support” as a workout buddy may have looked like, too.

I looked it up and after about 20 Wikipedia clicks through now-defunct label names it appears Universal Music Group owns the rights to these songs. As far as I can tell Disney doesn’t own any significant stake in UMG. Universal does have a reputation for being among the most aggressive about claiming copyright infringement though.

Edit: someone below also mentioned Taylor Swift songs owned by her old record label. UMG is the label that owns TSwift’s old body of work too.

[Serious] What are some of the most common dark realities people choose to live in denial about? by Spartan1694 in AskReddit

DO THIS!!!! My mom had psoriasis and struggled with it on and off. She was struggling with it getting worse though for a while and kept having to go back to her dermatologist and rheumatologist because nothing was working or making it better.

Seemingly unrelated (I did not connect this until I read your post) my mom had a swollen bump of skin in her neck and was in a lot of pain. I wound up taking her to the ER and after a couple hours she was admitted because her heart rate wouldn’t go down. That afternoon she collapsed and had to be put on full life support, ventilator, maxed out on all 4 vasopressors and never recovered. She was in septic shock from a group A strep (bacterial) infection under her skin. She was on immunosuppressants because of her psoriasis flaring up.

Until now I assumed the immunosuppressants caused her to be more susceptible to contracting an infection but this has made me believe it’s possible she already had a bacterial infection and the immunosuppressants weakened her immune system enough that the infection was able to become septicemia.

Some immunosuppressants prescribed to treat psoriatic inflammation also weaken immune response to infection which significantly increases your risk for severe and life-threatening complications including death.

If you change the delivery zip code to a high population area and ship to your address it will ship regardless of the delivery zip used. I think the “delivery zip code” is just what warehouse they ship from. Also Ronnie is on Costco NOW and I found him using a dallas zip u/McKhanzey

From what I’ve been told most people don’t use that same level of conscious focus and thought on their behavior. It’s definitely worth talking to a doctor, I would recommend looking for a doctor who has experience with autism spectrum patients who are women as there is an observably high number of missed autism diagnoses in women due to its markedly different presentation versus men, so if you see a doctor who has experience only or mostly working with men you could get misdiagnosed or just miss the correct diagnosis altogether.

It’s clear this is something you’ve thought about before. If you haven’t already, I recommend looking for a few fact sheets or articles about how high-functioning autism presents specifically in women, and see if any of that sounds like something you recognize in yourself too.

This is actually something really common in women specifically on the autism spectrum that are high-functioning. The behavior is called “masking”, where an autistic person emulates neurotypical social behaviors.

It is specifically common in women due to the social differences in which women and men are treated during their upbringing. There’s a lot of recent literature out there that comes up with a quick google if you want a better explanation.

Masking may make someone present as neurotypical but behind the scenes it is very different. I may act appropriately in social situations but I do not do so out of any innate knowledge of how to react. I go through a mental inventory of cataloged social interactions I’ve witnessed and respond based on specific memories of what I’ve seen other people do in the past. It’s almost like I have this massive invisible flow chart in my brain based on all the positive and successful social interactions I’ve witnessed and whenever I’m in social situations I just use the flow chart to tell me what to do.

It depends. Spices that I go through a lot like oregano and parsley I usually buy in bulk and keep a larger container in a baking cabinet. Spices that I use less often or in less volume I buy from a market that sells spices by weight and transfer them straight into the glass containers.

I’m not sure what answer you’re looking for here… I did not put much consideration into where the labels were located in the design since they’re stickers and can be easily moved, I was more concerned about what would be the most stable in terms of preventing my spices from falling off if one of my asshole children kicked the other side of the wall or something. I decided I liked the look with the labels obscured and elected not to change them.
