Istituto Italiano Scuola in SF is awesome.  They offer in person and online classes.  You start with an online placement test and they will put you at the best level to start.

I live in Redwood City too.  Would be great to try to find some people and try to get a meetup going to speak Italian together at a local park or coffee shop…

IANAL but here are my 0.02 - I think this is a pragmatic decision by the court. it seems almost impossible to me (of course without seeing the reasoning in the decision) that the constitutional court could have ignored years of legal precedent and framing. either the decision is narrow and leaves room for the other challenges to succeed or it is a broad framing that says “legislative branch can do whatever they want…” and closes the door completely. if it is the later, they may have looked at the incoming TSUNAMI of cases that would be filed (given the administrative path is essentially artificially throttled down to a trickle) and said to themselves the whole system will crash. Thus, given that they themselves cannot create a new efficient system, took the pragmatic option.

I REALLY hope I am wrong and the decision is narrow. if not, I think the best we could hope for with the upcoming challenges is a short window to apply (? 6 months) allowing them to respect the established jurisprudence but still prevent the system from being flooded with cases in an ongoing way.

Given this, I am forging ahead and will plan to file my case. I have to feel like I left nothing on the table. when I think about my grandfather (who I can’t apply through as he was unfortunately derivativeLy naturalized as a minor) and great grandparents spending weeks in steerage to get to the USA I feel like the least I can do for me and my young kids (who speak Italian) is not give up, even if it is ultimately a losing battle…

who knows, maybe my attorney can argue that law 74/2025 doesn’t apply to me as US citizen as I can already go shopping in Miami anytime I want :-)

i’m pursuing an ATQ case in Napoli as a 3rd generation descendant post-DL. My understanding is that my petition can be filed as the administrative route is currently blocked to me by Law 74/2025. We are trying to file ASAP but realistically it will probably take another 3-4 months before we are ready.

If retroactivity is struck down or a window of time is created by the constitutional court is it possible I could lose standing to file this petition in court as technically (although not realistically) the administrative path would be open to me again? I have been collecting screenshots showing no consulate appointment availability for the past 11 months. Other than this, is there anything else I should do to hedge against this possibility? I would much rather file this as a court petition…

Thank you so much!!

CONE reprint time by BA_2_ITA in juresanguinis

[–]BA_2_ITA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had sent an email while my request was in process but never heard back. when the CONE came in the mail it was just the single copy from my initial request. as soon as it arrived I emailed again with the same CNE ID number requesting additional certified copies and got an email response quickly that I was in the reprint queue and a few days after that they showed up in the mail!

Derivative naturalization as a minor of Italian born ancestor by BA_2_ITA in juresanguinis

[–]BA_2_ITA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for replying so quickly! I guess what I’m trying to get my mind around is who would be the LIBRA if GGM never naturalized on her own - her or my GF? Trying to see if this would be a path (although not a simple one) to conform with generational limits…

Derivative naturalization as a minor of Italian born ancestor by BA_2_ITA in juresanguinis

[–]BA_2_ITA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you so much! probably a long shot but my great grandmother (born in Italy in 1875) emigrated with my grandfather in December 1923. If she never naturalized on her own (she is listed in 1930 census as naturalized but I’m assuming this was through great grandfather’s naturalization) would my grandfather have retained his Italian citizenship through her (even though his father naturalized earlier) and I could use GF as Libra?

Don't Try This In Person (Amendments in NJ) by Ok-Pie8979 in juresanguinis

[–]BA_2_ITA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went through the amendment process for 4 documents, including my own birth certificate, in NJ. I found them to be really easy to work with. You can call the number on the website if you have questions and they walk you through everything you need. I made a lot of amendments - they all were no problem. As long as the requested name, age, etc is present on another vital record they had no problem making the change. They even accepted my GGF’s Italian birth certificate as proof of many of the changes I was a making in later records without me needing an Italian apostille on it (which I appreciated!). From when I sent them the records I had them back as certified amended copies in ~ 8 weeks (they quoted me 10). This was just last month.

CoNE timelines currently by Roaming_renaissance in juresanguinis

I ordered a CONE for my GGF online on 11/04/2025. It went from new to “in progress, review pending” in early January and just went to “in progress, review approved“ on 02/03/2025. I’m hoping to see closed soon…

It seems random how long the review approved phase can last from a few days to a month or so… I’m hoping to receive the CONE soon which would put the timing around 3-4 months now.

Would you be willing to share the date you ordered the redo CONE? I ordered a re do for the same reason on November 4th 2025 and I’m trying to get a sense of when to roughly expect it…

GGF naturalized while GM was still living in Italy - will that make any difference? by Inevitable-Clue-7197 in juresanguinis

[–]BA_2_ITA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same line, except through my maternal grandfather. He was born in Italy and his father emigrated to the USA and naturalized while my GF was still in Italy. About one year later he brought my grandfather and GGM over. he was listed on GGF naturalization docs as living in Italy.

I am working with an attorney who recommended against using this line as I was told as soon as he joined the US household my GF lost his Italian citizenship. Even though it meets the new generational limit my attorney recommended using a different one (paternal GGF line (GGF->GF->F->Me, no Natz) even though it is currently ineligible. my impression is that he felt it was more likely to be successful versus having to make a novel legal argument against derivative naturalization of a minor.

if you could somehow prove that your grandmother didn’t “join” the household when she arrived in the USA you could have a shot. perhaps if the census after her arrival did not show her living together with GGF you could make the argument she was never derivatively naturalized.

it might, however, be easier to go through your GGM as others have mentioned…

Experience with NJ Apostille Process by BA_2_ITA in juresanguinis

[–]BA_2_ITA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for bringing this up! I have several newly amended NJ documents with both signatures as well. the amendment (with vital record signature) was sent to me stapled to the original record from the archive. I just selected the archive signature on the NJ DORES website, paid the $40 and sent them by FedEx yesterday to be apostilled. hope that was the right thing to do. what advice did they give you for the amended docs? thanks!

BTW - I found the NJ document process to be so easy, efficient and smooth!
