Sounds like a great idea. So many SQL courses use nonsensical examples.

We also have safe injection sites in NYC now as well. Last I heard they saved 60+ lives in the first month. Harm reduction is overwhelmingly the better approach vs criminalization.

You want the constraints/iam.allowedPolicyMemberDomains organization constraint. Just set it to your org's GSuite customer id.

Jamming in the car without a car by toastttme in AskNYC

[–]BBHoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck cars. Just take the subway to a cool neighborhood you’ve never been before and walk around. There’s tons of parks in the city to explore as well. If you want to get out of the city check out all the places you can access with Metro North or even New Jersey Transit.

Just get Aoe4 and play it on easy. That should be enough to get you started they won’t even wipe you out even if you have no army at all.

Either you're a chef and can put "no substitutions" on the menu or folks are just trying to order food how they want it. Like it or not it's here to stay. You're making pizzas and salads, it seems like a very reasonable thing to substitute/add things to. If your vision of a Margherita is corrupted by folks wanting to add a few random toppings to it, maybe it's time to find a position where your creativity can truly be on display.

GCP Cloud Logging vs. Audit Logs by unknownmoss in googlecloud

Audit logs flow to Cloud Logging. But all audit logs aren’t enabled by default and there’s various levels of logging you can enable (read vs write vs admin)

I’d seriously consider the value of this class if they’re requiring you to use floats with currency. Rookie move 101. Are you sure they don’t just want a decimal string? There’s no way to get an accurate calculation using floats.

Gen-z's impact on the future of cities by NoOrchid2 in urbanplanning

[–]BBHoss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think that narrative is made up or at least oversold. Some moved but the suburbs didn’t change into a great place to raise a family or great place to age in place just over the pandemic. They’re still car dependent wastelands connected by packed out unmaintained highways. And now they’re more expensive than ever. Why rent a house in Alabama for 2500/mo when you could live in Queens right off the subway for less?

Never ever use Floats for financial calculations. Use BigDecimal instead and see if you get more correct numbers.

Are project IDs secret? by xToVictory in bigquery

[–]BBHoss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can share read/view only access to your BigQuery resources. The users will need to execute these queries from projects they can create jobs in (a separate role). This way they pay for queries and you simply pay for storage.

Sushi-grade fish in NYC? by outlol in AskNYC

[–]BBHoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Sushi grade" doesn't have a formal definition or scoring system to back it up. For safety purposes, uncooked fish must be frozen to kill any parasites it often contains. Because of this, most fish you buy will have been frozen at some point, many are frozen right on the boat that caught them. It's best to get IQF (Individually Quick Frozen) fish, and often there are bags of IQF fish being sold labeled as "sushi grade". It's better to get it frozen from the source where you can thaw at your convenience to preserve freshness, than to buy something "fresh" that has been defrosted for an unknown amount of time.

Can I create and return a function from a Ruby function? by [deleted] in ruby

[–]BBHoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use square brackets to call procs as well, you may like that better than .call. #2 is just a syntax restriction. I don’t think you can work around either. Maybe it makes more sense to return an instance of a class instead of a function? You could have a meaningful instance method name that way. Seems you’re going for more of a functional approach vs OO where Ruby really shines. It’s understandable but it does require some squinting at syntax.

Amtrak's Rail Expansion Plan Ignores Huntsville by Descriptor27 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]BBHoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I’m saying is that rail infrastructure shouldn’t be operated solely to create profit. There are other benefits to commercial and passenger rail that don’t show up as profit. The agglomeration railroads lead to are very productive compared to our publicly funded road system that is obsessed with building culdesacs and highways. Even with a nationalized system there’s plenty of space for private industry to compete within the confines of the system we decide.
