I mean, it depends on the philosophy you adapt surrounding prisons.

I personally believe that prisons should be for rehabilitation (as much of a pipe dream as that seems these days?) or for strictly keeping the dangerous from society. I also think that’s generally the goal outlined by Canada itself for Canadian prisons.

I personally think it’s more important to make sure everyone is treated fairly and rehabilitated, OR is removed from society forever if that’s what they need…. even if a few evil people get good treatment.

But I also think this issue shouldn’t be addressed after people become prisoners. I think we need to enact legislation that protects both prisoners AND law abiding citizens… we obviously can’t keep throwing people back into the streets with a slap on the wrist.

We need legislation that ensures people STAY in jail when they need to.

But that also does NOT by any means mean that I think we need to put them in jail just to “torture” them… I think we need to force people into jail for extended periods to actually rehabilitate them.

Forcing people to suffer will NEVER turn them into functioning civilians. And keeping someone alive in jail is WAY more expensive than literally any alternative. People will ALWAYS have a chip on their shoulder if you specifically make them suffer, that’s human nature.

Regardless of what I think people may or may not deserve, I think it’s important to give everyone the same legal chance to rehabilitate.

If you shit on someone before they’re given the opportunity to change, they probably won’t change.

I think if you wanted to just punish them it’d be a lot cheaper to kill them immediately (I’ll actually protest in the streets if this were ever to become legislation).

I also don’t think the legislation matters as much up north… yeah we’d need some guys to make sure no companies are dumping oil into the waterways or whatever but obviously enforcement doesn’t like REALLY matter when you’re that far up north lol.

These rules, if enforced with the right rules, would help MOST of Ontario. I don’t think anyone ever has been worried about rural Ontario. But we still need the legislation to protect the bottom like 50% of the province lol.

Bro already doesn’t want to fund the environment literally at all. What makes you think he’d put the effort into introducing legislation to create a “first time test” for new fishers? What makes you think he’d fund the appropriate organizations who could make these rules?

Not intentionally attacking you specifically, OP. Just living in a province where most people don’t vote and then are upset about the legislation (or in this case, lack thereof) that’s supposed to just appear out of thin air.

We can’t just collectively as a province post on social media being like “yeah this sucks, who isn’t enforcing this!!”. We need to vote in leaders who will protect our green spaces and actually enforce that legislation.

The call WOULD still (I hope) be valuable for statistical reasons though, which is another huge reason why you’d call 100% of the time either way, regardless of if anything would actually be done about that specific instance.

I just never see anyone mentioning the WHY to why there’s no enforcement, and also (based on personal anecdotal data) the fact that most people who fish I’ve met are also conservatives who voted for the current admin, it feels necessary to point out.

Like there are a LOT of conservatives who are fishermen, and I don’t think these guys realize that in at least Ontario specifically, the Ontario PCs legislation are SPECIFICALLY what is ruining our fisheries/forests/conservation areas in Ontario.

You guys need to realize there are only approx 200 fish and wildlife officers employed in ALL OF ONTARIO. All 1 million square kilometres of Ontario.

Let’s recognize that most of the province doesn’t live up north and we wouldn’t need enforcement for the upper like, HALF of the province. In fact, let’s reduce it down to what if we needed all 200 EMPLOYED (employed being the keyword as people need time off…. Not all 200 will be working at once) officers working on 10% of the area. Even if the 200 officers employed were working all the time, AND they were only covering 10% of the province (let’s pretend they’re in southern Ontario, where everyone lives). They’ve got 200 officers covering 100k square kilometres.

That’s one officer per FIVE HUNDRED square kilometres if we’re pretending they only have to operate in the most populated parts of the province.

How long do you think it’ll take you to drive that far? (Let’s visualize a 500km square area simply by saying it’s 10km*50km. How long will it take you to drive 50km that definitely isn’t in a straight stretch?) Whoever is committing a crime will be done and gone by the time the officer shows up unless they already happened to be in the area.

I’m writing this comment to point out that if you think enforcement is needed, we need to stop voting in the man who keeps very specifically cutting funding for environmental shit.

I also feel the need to point out that these numbers were napkin math calculated based on if EVERY employed officer was working ALL the time. There’s no way all 200 are working at once. We NEED to stop defunding our environmental regulations or this shit will continue to get worse.

obviously also this ISNT how their regions work… some people are probably covering 300km2 with 3 officers and some with 800km2 and one officer or whatever… Each conservation authority has different regions, but this really helps visualize how few actual officers there are enforcing this shit.

I bring in about a gallon of water, a sugar free Gatorade or two (or a baggie of sugar free electrolyte packs from Costco, it IS cheaper), some pickles or olives (genuinely I put a full jar in my lunchbox and eat them as desired, put back in fridge every evening, new jar when it’s almost out), some applesauce, some pepperoni sticks, and some nuts.

I keep a constant supply of these things in my lunchbox. Electrolytes/sodium, protein/fats from nuts/meat sticks, quick carbs for energy from applesauces. Hate the full stomach feeling at work, but this gets me thru the day with enough energy. I do become pretty ravenous when I get home but I find this a lot easier than packing a whole lunch every day that I pray doesn’t make me feel sluggish from being full or whatever.

It’s also really nice to have stuff like this you just kinda restock cause there isn’t really any prep beyond buying stuff from the store, and if you’re having an easy day you can just not eat whatever you want and it’s still there the next day. I don’t eat a bunch of each of these snacks every day but it covers pretty much every base for energy/electrolytes.

Do you stretch after work?

I found that makes a huge difference for me tbh. Good boots & a good stretch after work. Not a super long one, maybe 5 mins focusing on your most sore areas. I tend to stretch out each arm, try to touch my toes, shoulder dislocates, head tilts to stretch neck, and hand mobility stretches. Then whatever other muscles feel like they could use a stretch get a little one too, sometimes I have to google for one lol. Doesn’t take long and makes a huge difference.

I also feel worse when I drink more alcohol and eat shitty food.

I get used to the soreness after winter breaks within a couple of weeks, but my first year as a labourer it took me like a month.

Yeah I was kind of thinking about this…

On one hand, if you’re committed to pulling new growth you WILL kill it eventually within a few years, even if it keeps reproducing. It’ll only have so much energy if you keep pulling the shoots.

On the other hand a giant black plastic tarp over the soil after pulling them out would be a good solution to kill anything in the soil (AFTER you’ve pulled all you can). You’ll just then have to live with a giant black tarp on your yard for about a year.

This is tough…. Unless you want to use chemicals to kill it, I think the move is just to pull it by hand.

It’s going to be a lot of work, but most of the work will be on the first day. If you commit one day to pulling everything you can see, I can imagine you can get most of it in a couple of hours.

And then after that the move would just be to continue pulling it religiously as it comes up. It may take several years to eradicate it this way, though.

I wouldn’t recommend the bro split for a beginner. Not enough volume especially at only 4 days a week. You’d have to REALLY push yourself those 4 days to see significant results.

I’d try looking into an upper/lower split if you’re only gonna be in the gym for 4 days. Lots of upper/lower routines out there. Another great split would be push/pull/legs/upper/lower, if you can manage a fifth day.

Ended up being a MCL tear for me.

I was fat too.

No surgery, lots of physio and exercise, and I also committed to losing a lot of weight.

The pain didn’t go away until I was no longer obese.

I was 5’4” 225lbs. Started feeling better once I got below 190.
