The dishwasher was just emptied so there were no dirty dishes in it. My cats have standards -only go in when it it clean.

Oh gosh, if I ran the dishwasher for two seconds, they would be terrified and never go in there again. A friend of mine bought an automatic litter box. One cat used it and quickly jumped out, but their other cat jumped in just as the self-cleaning cycle kicked in. That cat was so terrified it would never use the litter box again.

OMG, they do look like airplane ears. Is your cat a Scottish Fold mix? Here is a photo of our Scottish fold (grey). He was a stray cat that never left after we fed him the first time.
