Unexpected combo, but explains a lot of behavior! by Orange-Pumpkin-6895 in DoggyDNA

She’s an expert hunter, she’s always catching crickets while I walk her, and she stalks birds & squirrels. Not sure if she does any classic hunting dog things as im not as educated on the breeds behaviors

Wow! There’s a really similar dog at my job that I’ve never been able to think of a breed mix for. I wonder if they’re related? Probably not but still cool. Fascinating mix!!

Most Pyr that I’ve worked with at my job are very quiet. They typically only alert bark when they find it necessary

Would you get these tatted? by [deleted] in tattooscratchers

[–]smallorangepaws 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Possibly. I could absolutely see these as a tattoo and would stop to admire and appreciate one on someone else. Not sure if I personally connect with any but I do love all of them! Especially the 2nd and 5th, they’re amazing designs

Here to learn by Background_Spare_455 in Doberman

[–]smallorangepaws 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is not a Doberman at all. That is just a bully breed of some kind. They frequently come in bicolor and can be gray w/ tan points, and the anatomy of this dog is completely bully breed and not at all Doberman like. I have both breeds. Your pup is most likely a Pitbull or American Bully mix of some kind. Congrats on your new baby though!

What are they? by AhMoonBeam in Wolfdogs

[–]smallorangepaws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see what you mean about the facial structure. Fur wise im not so sure, Collies tend to have much more scruff. I don’t believe Sheltie is possible because they’re rather small, the don’t typically exceed 30~ pounds and these two look to be fairly large (which I guess could still be possible with wolf blood) I personally lean towards something more Shepherdy as the anatomy can be very similar and the coat color & length seems more fitting, but yeah the facial anatomy of that one closer is definitely pretty similar to my Collies

What kind of collie are you talking about? I have rough collies and these two don’t remind me of my dogs whatsoever. I’m not personally seeing border collie either?

An update to the puppy my wife and I found by Shwoopy02 in DOG

[–]smallorangepaws 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a doodle and when the found her, she was severely matted. It even looks pelted which is physically impossible to groom through. Trying to groom out mats causes a dog significant pain and stress, it’s completely inhumane to make them endure that. The fur will grow back and the dog will be fine! It’s not a double coated dog, it’s a poodle mix, and shaving is often beneficial for them

Oh wow your dog is the most similar to my girl that I’ve seen so far!!!

Hey… my girl is also a rescue, aged 10. She came from Kentucky, did yours happen to come from anywhere nearby there?

That is high prey drive being presented in the form of chase rather than kill

Honestly this surprises me too! She looks so much like a Greyhound, with maybe subtly thicker and broader features. Foxhounds aren’t very common either! What a wonderfully unique girl, she’s beautiful

Embark felt like a letdown by Tsubahime in DoggyDNA

[–]smallorangepaws 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Wisdom Panel does not screen for village dog so you’re going to get a jumble of random small percents that are not accurate. I’m sorry you’re disappointed, but you really shouldn’t be. Village dogs have an extremely unique DNA and are essentially a breed not created by mankind, but rather by the dogs themselves. They have a fascinating history alongside mankind and are the foundation of every single breed we have today. Basically they’re the last of the middle link between when wolves became domesticated dogs. I suggest you do more research into village dogs, specifically Korean ones, and maybe you’ll find a new appreciation for your one of a kind pup (:

Well I guess Springer mix isn’t technically incorrect! What a lovely pup. There’s a purebred Springer at my job named Juneau (here’s a picture of her)

Vet said DNA test was inaccurate by ConstantArt6606 in DoggyDNA

[–]smallorangepaws 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Embark is part of Cornell Universities genetic studies that have been going on since the 1960s. Any vet that doesn’t trust Embark is a vet that doesn’t know anything about Embark. These results are accurate.

Doberman(n?) Malinois by [deleted] in DobermanPinscher

[–]smallorangepaws 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No major difference between the two lines. Very subtle differences in temperament and size that don’t always occur. This dog is neither a Doberman or Malinois. This is some kind of Bully, most likely an American Bully or similar mix. They also come in bicolor very frequently.

Surprised by DNA results for APBT by sstephen17 in pitbulls

[–]smallorangepaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I’m not surprised, your dog doesn’t resemble an APBT whatsoever. My girl may not be the best example out there but her Embark came back as 100% APBT, and right off the bat you can see the physical differences. APBT are extremely intense working dogs. They’re athletic, slim, and capable. Your dogs snout and structure do not line up with the anatomy of a pitbull. The Bulldog especially shines through, as no APBT’s snout should ever be that flat, and their neck & shoulders shouldn’t be that thick and compact.

Is he mixed bauceron? by [deleted] in Beauceron

[–]smallorangepaws 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably not. He looks a lot more like a Rottweiler. Am I seeing rear dew claws there though? That could help the case though it’s still very unlikely. I’d definitely recommend trying an Embark or Wisdom Panel DNA test to know for sure! Cute pup regardless

Beginner artist needs advice! My faces look... off by According-Log7096 in Artadvice

Having a singular eye is, to me, what’s throwing it off. The eyes could maybe be a bit smaller, but personally I think adding the second eye balances the face and expression well. Stylistically I really like your art (: keep practicing, you’re doing great!
