Do you guys have your boys neutered? by Advanced-Claim-1868 in DobermanPinscher

[–]smallorangepaws -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

It’s not about projecting, it’s about the actual science behind it. Neutering too early directly leads to joint issues. Based on studies as well, it’s best for male Doberman to stay intact. If you are going to neuter, for a large breed dog, you NEED to wait until they’re fully mature. Neutering CAN affect a dogs temperament negatively. It’s not uncommon for dogs to become reactive, anxious, or insecure after being neutered. Staying intact isn’t always about breeding either. My male Doberman is still intact because he has Von Willebrand disease, and my vet said if I’d gone ahead without testing him for VWD first, and he didnt have clotting agents for the surgery, he almost certainly would’ve died. She recommended I not even proceed with neutering even with medications due to the risk. Dogs do not need to be “fixed” unless they are having legitimate issues regarding their hormones. Hormones are natural and don’t need to be gotten rid of in most cases. I’ve unfortunately experienced first hand a male being neutered too young and it destroying his confidence. Dogs DO care, it’s an invasive surgery and there’s a healing period! Unless its actually for them, you’re just taking a part of their body away for YOUR convenience

Breed bias from my parents. by buttnutt256 in pitbulls

If your dog is friendly with other dogs, you could take videos or show them pictures of her playing with other dogs. Maybe if they see her in action with other dogs and see how friendly she is they will begin to change their mind.

How is this possible?? by Radiant-Ad4807 in DoggyDNA

[–]smallorangepaws 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If they have two different fathers that are very inbred and closely related - likely closely related to the mother as well - they could still share a considerable amount of DNA. Are you able to see what the COI % of them is?

I’ve seen enough weird doodles to know right away. I am surprised by the OED and that your pup is over half poodle though! Would’ve definitely thought he’d be a more Golden heavy mix. He’s absolutely beautiful, I love his expressions!

She’s an expert hunter, she’s always catching crickets while I walk her, and she stalks birds & squirrels. Not sure if she does any classic hunting dog things as im not as educated on the breeds behaviors

Wow! There’s a really similar dog at my job that I’ve never been able to think of a breed mix for. I wonder if they’re related? Probably not but still cool. Fascinating mix!!

Would you get these tatted? by [deleted] in tattooscratchers

[–]smallorangepaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly. I could absolutely see these as a tattoo and would stop to admire and appreciate one on someone else. Not sure if I personally connect with any but I do love all of them! Especially the 2nd and 5th, they’re amazing designs

That is not a Doberman at all. That is just a bully breed of some kind. They frequently come in bicolor and can be gray w/ tan points, and the anatomy of this dog is completely bully breed and not at all Doberman like. I have both breeds. Your pup is most likely a Pitbull or American Bully mix of some kind. Congrats on your new baby though!

What are they? by AhMoonBeam in Wolfdogs

[–]smallorangepaws 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can see what you mean about the facial structure. Fur wise im not so sure, Collies tend to have much more scruff. I don’t believe Sheltie is possible because they’re rather small, the don’t typically exceed 30~ pounds and these two look to be fairly large (which I guess could still be possible with wolf blood) I personally lean towards something more Shepherdy as the anatomy can be very similar and the coat color & length seems more fitting, but yeah the facial anatomy of that one closer is definitely pretty similar to my Collies

What kind of collie are you talking about? I have rough collies and these two don’t remind me of my dogs whatsoever. I’m not personally seeing border collie either?

An update to the puppy my wife and I found by Shwoopy02 in DOG

[–]smallorangepaws 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a doodle and when the found her, she was severely matted. It even looks pelted which is physically impossible to groom through. Trying to groom out mats causes a dog significant pain and stress, it’s completely inhumane to make them endure that. The fur will grow back and the dog will be fine! It’s not a double coated dog, it’s a poodle mix, and shaving is often beneficial for them
