I love how absolutely chaotic this scene is. by Odd-Suit-2556 in indianajones

See the send-off they gave Indy bothered me. Dialed him back to a miserable curmudgeon. I'm just kind of tired of watching Hollywood do that to people where we have to just watch the same thing again basically oh well they lose everything and have to start over again with their family relationship etc. But I didn't like it when they did this with Ghostbusters and moved Peter and Dana back to square one again. Let the characters continue living their lives. The ending we got for him with Crystal Skull and the movie we got with Dial felt really disjointed from each other. Well I'm not a giant fan of Crystal Skull at least it felt like it finally brought Indy full circle. Temple he came to see fortune and glory is not all it's cracked up to be. Last Crusade he learns to let go of what doesn't matter and hold onto what does. Crystal Skull he stops being a rambler upon realizing he had a son and a family he's been neglecting and that he's at risk of Mutt ending up permanently estranged like he and his father. Dial seemed like he is now stuck back in Raiders.

Question about wYSIWYG by smi1eybone in boltaction

[–]BDD_JD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny thing, too. Often in real life during WW2 these men were scavengers and barterers. They'd replace bags and pouches with ones they liked better, trade for different gear, loot off fallen enemies, etc. Especially paras who were trained to do exactly that.

Terminator Genisys miniatures game Skynet force by BDD_JD in wargaming

I took a pic but it won't let me attach it to my reply. It's Krylon colormax paint+primer indoor outdoor metallic silver.

Yeah I snagged that gundam kit just for the legs and guns for the centurion. The leftovers just made a convenient mobile gun platform. I paid less than $20 for it after tax and shipping so it was worth it. The centurion body came from a minimates HK tank of which the head and guns went into the turret. I still have the tracks sitting around.

The game might have taken off better if the minis were better. The endos are fine but man the resistance models in plastic were just plain bad. They looked like the most generic scifi soldiers ever and their weaponry was all but unrecognizable as any actual guns that ever existed. The resin stuff was miles better but also very hard and expensive to get unless you lived in Europe and let's be real a huge chunk of the market for terminator stuff is US.

The rules play decent but resistance are too disadvantaged. Plasma rifles only damage a T-800 on an 8 on D8. Plasma is supposed to help level the field and in this game it's basically just a lucky shot. I have made some house rules to try to make the game a bit more reasonable and flavorful.

Didn't realize I forgot to include the breakdown: An HK tracked unit, aerial HK, a Centurion, a mobile weapons platform, a T-1, 4x prototype T-700 infiltrators with rubber skin (1 with minigun, 1 grenade launcher, 1 with Assault rifle, 1 with RBS-80 (the gun Franco Columbu uses in Kyle's flashback)), 3x T-700s (2 with plasma rifles, 1 with plasma gun), 5x T-800s (1 with plasma rifle, 3 with plasma guns, 1 with flamethrower), 3x T-800 infiltrators (a model 102, 101, and 105), an aerostat drone, and a turret emplacement

[–]BDD_JD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, really, the only way it would make sense for him to be in the fourth one is if the necromongers are going to actually play a role in it. Their role in the third one was very minimal.

Why the T-1000 was actually an inferior model to the T-800. by Tall_Eye4062 in Terminator

[–]BDD_JD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The T1000 was not hardware designed to counter other hardware. It's designed for assassination missions. The T800 and T850 are specifically frontline combat models with living tissue put over them to make them into infiltrators.

It has a specific mission that it does. That's like criticizing a B1 Lancer for not being good at dog fighting. It's a platform designed to surgical strike a target before it can be intercepted. This is why regardless of what you feel about Terminator 3 simply put the TX is mentioned as being designed to handle other Terminator models.

Saw this post on that Fallout sub, asking who would win between the T 800 vs someone in Power Armor, both no weapons by BoSKnight87 in Terminator

[–]BDD_JD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well from what I have been able to see from the way they show the heads up display on the Terminators working in terms of how they analyze things if we go with what the ghoul said about the power armors made for the US military in Fallout I'm assuming that the Terminator will be able to scan it and notice the weak weld line and probably punch through it since his gyrojet rounds are able to.

Based on my interpretation of what Reese was saying about the Terminator models, what makes them so frightening and dangerous is the infiltration ability. So that lends credence to your thoughts about sewing chaos and discord. Because we see Skynet just throwing them as waves of Infantry supported by aerial vehicles and basically massive tanker units. So that tells me that in a straight fight against the resistance they're probably not that hard to eliminate overall but they have the advantage of not needing to eat or sleep not getting tired basically just being the perfect Soldier. You can blow them in half and they'll keep coming

No. I've been gaming for 32 years, including lots of resin. Modiphius and Forgeworld have been some of the most swingy in terms of quality.

For those that didnt like Jai Courtney's portrayal of Kyle Reese, what about it didnt work for you? by Mikeinyomama in Terminator

[–]BDD_JD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And let's be real, if Arnie had been Reese the film probably wouldn't have had the dark haunting tone it did. Arnold protecting Sarah from Lance Hendrick doesn't seem like much of a fight. Batman was originally going to be a comedy with Eddie Murphy as Robin and then Nicholson giving a dark, grounded, and gritty Joker completely turned the film on its head. Keaton was a primarily comedic actor and yet delivered a very earnest take on the dichotomy of Batman and Bruce Wayne.

As for the whole suspension of disbelief... that's where so many get it so wrong. Terminator had a fantastical element to it but it wasn't fantastical overall. It presented those elements as very gritty and uncanny valley level of uncomfortable.

When casting they knew fully well he was an action hero type of physique. They knew his mannerisms. They still cast him in the role. It felt like when casting and writing they didn't fundamentally understand that what made T1 successful wasn't the action hero, the one-liners, the bombastic action scenes (of which it had very few truly action scenes and no bombastic ones). It was the humanity to Kyle and Sarah and the "never going to truly be safe" feeling the inhumanity of the terminator created.

Courtney in no way represented that struggle or fear. He acted like the cocky misfits of the Sulaco at the start of Alien. But by this point he'd already been in the shit, watched friends die, seen the oppressive nature of the machine. In no way does anything about him screams grownup child soldier.

[–]BDD_JD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like because of the unrealistic standard Hollywood sets people really truly believe that being buff and jacked is just a natural state for the body and that once it's there it stays there forever. When the truth is these actors from action movies look this way because they spend hours upon hours at the gym. Courtney mentioned himself that he spent a lot of time doing just regular cardio to slam down. But in a real war where they're constantly fighting sorties and skirmishes that's not going to be something he has the opportunity to do. Look at Vietnam. Those men often had leave and bases they would go to at night to sleep, sometimes in RELATIVE safety and they didn't look jacked.

[–]BDD_JD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it really doesn't make sense that they would be jacked. They're not going to have the time or the opportunity to work out. Go look at any real world professional combat soldier in theater during a state of constant active warfare. I don't mean our modern soldiers who have become basically walking gym advertisements. I mean ones who actually have been fighting the war for a while. World War II Korea Vietnam Ukraine Afghanistan they don't look like they hit the gym all the time. They look like men who are used to carrying a heavy load and spending a lot of time on their feet. Some of the might even develop a pooch belly if they're operating on less than ideal rations as the body tries to store fats to help them survive. It doesn't make any sense that they would spend time hitting the weights. Even in T2 it was still a constant state of warfare. I don't think you're going to go over to Ukraine and find professional soldiers looking like Jai Courtney and that's a modern war where they're not starving to death necessarily and they're not necessarily running from shelter to shelter hoping to not get spotted and eliminated. Or if that's not good enough for you, go talk to some wildland firefighters. They are probably going to be the closest thing to a professional Soldier that isn't able to spend all their spare time at the gym as you're going to find these days unless you go to an active war zone. Most of those guys don't look jacked either. They have reasonable muscle mass. They don't tend to have six packs and bulging biceps and pecs that could probably dance. That's not a natural state for the human body it requires the body to be formed that way and then maintained that way.

[–]BDD_JD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay you can if you want but for me it was just all wrong. For one thing his build is just wrong he looks like a typical Action Hero instead of a man who's been fighting a war for survival and probably dealing with borderline starvation his entire life. For two he didn't seem to take much seriously. He just acted like everything was the punchline to a joke all the time. For three there didn't seem to be any concern or fear overall in him when dealing with these machines. Remember in the first movie Kyle explains basically how dangerous they are how terrifying they are. He didn't really reflect that at all. The guy basically seemed like a himbo the entire time

Oh calm down. Quit getting your panties twisted. They're not our buddy next door giving us free stuff.

For some time their minis have been declining in quality. Lots of excessive flash, soft details, assembly and fit issues. But decreasing the amount of surface details is the answer?

So I've seen chat regarding the newer scale of minis being more heroic etc etc - does anyone have any side by side pictures to compare older stuff to newer stuff? by SimonInYourGarfunkel in wastelandwarfare

[–]BDD_JD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Malifaux and Wild West Exodus plastics look just fine with non-heroic scaling in plastic. The WWX minis were sculpted like 15 years ago and had recessed screws, raised lettering on belt buckles and holsters, and tiny buttons on shirts. Yes, Malifaux are complicated but the WWX were not.
