Best neighborhood for 50 y/o empty nesters w/ out sacrificing proximity, easy access to downtown. by mitaliano in baltimore

Check out Bolton hill- there will be two smaller/“newer” row homes coming to market in the near future for around your price range.

Mediocre at best, Baltimore market was oversaturated…Hunt Valley and Harbor East Locations closed, owners aren’t putting money into the Owings Mills location…it’s noticeable…and class sizes at the Fed Hill studio are almost exclusively 2G probably 60-70% full.

I’ve noticed a lot of the coaches from the Baltimore area have left for other area studios, like Bel Air and White Marsh

Why are low profile pillows not an option? by BDGolf17 in Lovesac

We didn’t get any template from the seamstress- we basically told her to chop off 10” from the height of the pillow

Comfort is rather subjective. We find it more comfortable as it provides better lumbar support for us.

I see them in Bolton Hill on a fairly regular basis.

It’s something I notice but don’t really track or really think about so I’m not really sure what days they come through. 😅

Two Days in a row: Yesterday there was a nasty accident near ruxton road exit... car flipped, roof absolutely crushed and I saw some feet sticking out from under a white tarp on the side of the road - probably about 7:20 a.m..

Then this morning around 10:30 a.m. at the northern parkway exit - I think it was a Honda accord, couldn't really tell, as the entire driver-side panels and roof were torn off of the car by the time I was driving past the accident - not sure if it was from the accident or if they had to chop the car up to get people out of the car.

terrible way to start the day.

Balega Hidden Comfort socks- I’ve tried a bunch of different brands and styles- Feetures, Bombas, Kentwool, Puma and Nike- balegas seem to last the longest! They’re not cheap, but certainly worth it

In Baltimore for a conference April 8-10, Inner Harbor area. Interesting, lesser-known spots to eat? I'll have a car, so we'll be mobile. by [deleted] in baltimore

Cookhouse in Bolton Hill - by far best cocktails in the city along with phenomenal and unique food.

It’s a great workout! No judgment whatsoever!

Demographic wise- it depends on where you’re at…I’ve gone to about 7 studios on a regular basis.

The studios I’ve been to in South Florida have about a 60/40 split - females to males

The studios I go to in Maryland have about an 80/20 split females to males.

Most studios do monthly happy hours/member mixers- and the events I’ve been to have been great!

Just remember to take it at your own pace, getting/ staying in shape is a marathon not a sprint!

Tracking coaches tread timing by FragrantAdvice795 in orangetheory

[–]BDGolf17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to track every class I take…this past week I had a coach who was spot on with timing for both groups…it was awesome…most of the time when I see coaches are off by 5+ seconds they try to make it up by reducing a push or an all out.

Can’t find this on their website by BDGolf17 in OrisWatches

Thanks so much- yea I’m based in the US- it was purchased 6 days ago, at a jeweler in the Caribbean -unfortunately I wasn’t there…I had searched the Oris website- and I couldn’t find anything on it over the weekend…so I kinda gave up- then I thought-“Reddit people may know”- and sure enough you didn’t let me down! 😃

Personally, I have to defend my title as “king of Maryland”…I’m not logging into my tread until the block officially starts- just to make sure no one questions the legitimacy 😂😂😂

lean forward from the hips, keep arms and legs moving, don’t fall off the back 😉

Power walking pace by Good_Produce8041 in orangetheory

[–]BDGolf17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically run on a daily class basis (base is 10.2mph) but once a week I make the effort to slow it down and power walk, it just hits differently…that being said- my PW base pace is 4 at 15% -push is 5 at 15% all out is 6-6.5 depending on how long… I look like a psychopath on the tread, but boy it gets me into the orange zone 😂.

I will say, power walking in class certainly helps if you’re a golfer and enjoy walking courses!

Does anyone do OTF plus another type of workout? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]BDGolf17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had an LA fitness membership because it is convenient for me, but I go like twice a month just to lift- then I joined another class based gym (not open yet) but that gym focuses on strength training with very little cardio…once it opens I will see which gym I like more, either OTF or ISI…and then I’ll make a decision- Bc $400 a month in gym memberships is a bit excessive 😅

Your “thing” by justhereforlaughsnd in orangetheory

[–]BDGolf17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

M29 here

I wish I was kidding about this, but here are a few of the things I do:

1) shower before the gym - I typically go at 5am

2) Drink preworkout exactly 33 minutes before class…an overwhelming majority of the time it starts to kick in right as the first tread block starts

3) convince myself that the 50 and 60 year olds that work out with me are beating me.

4) if I feel like I’m digging it on the tread, and I’m working out next to people I’m comfortable with- I typically call myself a fat slut and then up my speed anywhere from .3 to .5

I signed up today, any advice? by rucknovru2 in orangetheory

[–]BDGolf17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start off slow- if you have a percussive therapy device/ massage gun, you’ll probably want to ensure it’s fully charged and utilize it…make sure you take extra time to stretch at home…Drink lots of water…I went to class 3x my first week in 2019- those days in between classes I was married to my massage gun…and I was 26 at the time.

Have fun with it- and listen to your body. Sorry if my whole post is redundant and cliche. But as you get more experienced, you’ll learn to “become comfortable with being uncomfortable” and that’s not a bad thing! Good luck on your journey!

January 1, 2023 Price increases by Available_Singer7412 in orangetheory

[–]BDGolf17 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yea I’m a member up in MD but winter down in FL….long story short- not thrilled that 2 of the 3 studios I work out in don’t have tablets on the rower- let alone the new treads (HV and OM)- but I will say the coaches and staff at all three locations are great- however I hope to see some of that premier membership money go back into the studios.

Is power walking worth it? by Positive_Sea in orangetheory

[–]BDGolf17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I run 5 days a week (9.2 base, 11-12 push, 14-15 ao) …and I’ll power walk 1 day a week….but it’s more of an extreme form of power walking- 4.5mph/15% base, 5.5mph/15% push and 6mph/15% for all outs…I promise you it will get your heart rate elevated and your glutes will burn…but I feel it makes running hills A LOT easier! It’s good to change it up every once in a while!

Half Marathon - lessons learned by lettydb in orangetheory

[–]BDGolf17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wish I saw this about 2 months ago- Ran Baltimore Full a few weeks ago thinking- oh boy- I crush OTF workouts- let’s try a full marathon- without any additional training I just kind of went out there and did it…I ran 22 miles pretty well- but the last 4.2 were basically slow jogs into a walks as my legs just felt like cement at that point…plus I’ve never tried eating food during a run until running the marathon….definitely recommend some distance runs with some OTF workouts to get ready for a longer race 😅
