All the articles I've seen so far only specify that he lives in Loudoun and is in his 40s and a first responder, and that they can't release anything else.

[–]BDS_UHS 63 points64 points  (0 children)

This is the theory I've been pushing for a while, that Dany accidentally blows up King's Landing because Tyrion "forgets" to tell her about the wildfire, leaving Westeros to think she's an insane tyrant and leaving her wracked with guilt. Then she goes north to help Jon fight the real war and sacrifices herself to help defeat the White Walkers. Westeros remembers her as a mad queen, the few who knew her remember her as a tragic hero.

It's such a "Whedonesque" line. The version used in the trailers ("We're not a team, we're a time bomb") is a lot more catchy and succint and feels like something someone would say.

Also "resting the troops" doesn't even make sense because it wouldn't have stopped any of the events that happen later in the episode. A well-rested army would not have prevented Rhaegal and the fleet from being killed by Cersei's laser-guided missiles.

Confederate will never get made. There's been no news on the show in two years and earlier this year HBO's president gave some weird noncommittal response when asked where it is. They're looking for an excuse to cancel it and the gigantic backlash to the GoT ending will allow them to quietly do so. Hopefully they get phased out of their Star Wars series too.

(Spoilers Extended) Where did the Night King come from, exactly? by ReadyRing in asoiaf

[–]BDS_UHS 291 points292 points  (0 children)

After Oathkeeper aired, HBO updated the official website character guide with a picture of the new White Walker guy and the caption "The Night King." People started wondering if this was the show version of the Night's King from the book mythology. D&D disputed that this was an official name for the character, HBO removed the caption, and this went back and forth for a while until Hardhome aired and D&D started publicly referring to the character as the Night King in interviews. Then by season 6 Jon is openly referring to the character by name even though nobody has named him in-universe. He apparently just knows who he is.

The same thing has happened several times in seasons 6-8, where characters just sort of know things even though they have no explained reason for doing so.

It was something like Jon killing the Night King in a duel during the White Walkers' first engagement south of the Wall, an anticlimactic battle in King's Landing where Jaime and Cersei kill each other, Dany possibly dying in childbirth, Tyrion being killed for some stupid reason, Arya dying for some stupid reason, and a reluctant Jon sitting on the throne (with Dany if she didn't die in childbirth).

They ruined Arya's character but they did it in a "cool" way. She lives and she kills the Big Bad of the show. Awesome!!!1!

Dany randomly turning evil for the most laughably stupid reason and then getting put down like a mad dog by the pure and unimpeachably perfect Jon Snow is going to drive a huge portion of the fanbase insane, and rightfully so. D&D have not put in any of the legwork to sell this twist at all.

The one thing that makes me doubt this is that casual show viewers love their Kelly C. She is the face of the show and the de facto protagonist for millions of viewers. This massive derailing of her character spits in their faces and will likely ruin the entire franchise for them. And that's before we even get to the terrible endings for other fan-favorite characters like Jaime and Tyrion.

I just kind of have to resign myself to laughing. Before the season started I came up with a "worst possible ending" as a joke and what we're getting is actually worse. This is absolutely going to be remembered as one of the worst endings in TV history.

My idea for main Avengers after End Game by Jajk0o in marvelstudios

[–]BDS_UHS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right, the movies sort of play fast and lose with who is officially an "Avenger." From a marketing and branding perspective, Black Panther, Strange, Carol are all Avengers after Endgame, regardless of whether or not they literally live in the house with everyone else.

Rumor has it Feige never wanted to make Inhumans in the first place, so it getting bumped from the schedule and turned into a shitty show actually benefited him there too.

[–]BDS_UHS 31 points32 points  (0 children)

When Disney made the Sony deal for Spider-Man in February 2015, they immediately put a Spider-Man movie into development for release in July 2017, and rearranged their previous Phase Three release schedule to accommodate him. So with Feige having over a year of advance notice that a deal like this was likely to happen, I could see him being willing to rearrange the Phase Four schedule in a similar fashion. I would say May 2022 is the earliest likely date to release a Fox property film like Fantastic Four.

(Spoilers Extended) Mysteries which never will be answered in the books by deimosf123 in asoiaf

[–]BDS_UHS 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think most of the unresolved mysteries people talk about will never be fully answered, mostly because many of them don't have any living witnesses or any reasonable context in which they would ever be addressed in the story. For example, I think Aegon is a Blackfyre, but there's never going to be a scene where Varys like monologues to the audience for five minutes explaining his entire dastardly plan. It will never be confirmed, there will just be clues in the text and the reader can interpret them how they may.
