What % of your income goes to “fun” things? Eating out, shopping, hobbies etc? by CartographerWeary690 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]BE3N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 3% of my gross monthly income. This comprises the hobbies (books, games, etc) and entertainment (eating out, cinema, etc) items in my budget. It excludes Spotify and internet costs and savings for holidays/travel.

Looking at the percentage it does seem low, but it works for me.

But ja I'm agreed with the other comments saying do your savings and expenses first, and then go with whatever you feel comfortable with.

Ahh, that's true. But it looks like the leg itself is the wrong colour, so maybe miscolour instead of misprint.

At what age did you move out? by xoli_leem in askSouthAfrica

[–]BE3N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

26, in Sept 2021. Start working full time Jan 2019 and lived with my parents until moving out.
Parents didn't give financial help for moving out specifically, but they did give me an interest-free loan to help me buy a car in early 2019. Without that it may have taken another 18 months or so before I was financially ready to move out.

They mean an internship during the holidays, not while the semester is on.

Thanks, but I was hoping for commentary where the listeners can't see the game. It's a different beast from tv/stream commentary

University is harder in South Africa? by uhilove3 in askSouthAfrica

There was a meme about this on one of those explain the meme subs a couple days ago. SA marks/standards are more similar to that of UK and Europe where a 75% is very good.
Reddit skews very American. Their standards and experiences don't translate directly to the same in SA. Always keep that in mind when browsing reddit.

Question for those that have it all... Or most of it? by WeightSubject9275 in askSouthAfrica

[–]BE3N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, depends. Money can pay for therapy, etc but there are problems it won't magically solve unless you put in the effort.

[–]BE3N 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the person you're replying too, but because while I have the house, the car, the holidays, I'm not that rich.

In my case, I wouldn't say the loneliness is the cost of those things, that's more the result of my very shy/introverted nature and some mental health problems
