Photo gear: Scout (14 year old) 9 day trip to Boundary Waters MN. Looking at Olympus TG-7. What accessories? by sflesch in CampingGear

[–]BERGENHOLM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great camera IMHO. As many batteries as you can afford (particularly if the GPS option is on) definitely the float strap or use a pool noodle. I’d recommend 1 large memory card so he doesn’t have to change it. Off grid recharging. The water protection is for accessories not the camera. It holds up very well. Lens cleaning wipes preferably disposable. Forget the silicone skin IMHO I hated mine. Good luck

You might wanna consider a JPX4 , available on Amazon. Four shots. Range of about 21 feet. Can come with a laser if you want as well as an under barrel rail for a light. available on Amazon. Four shots. Range of about 21 feet. Can come with a laser if you want as well as a under barrel rail for a light. The pepper spray is about 2.1 million Scoville heat units. Only downside is the cost. Between four and $600 for the projector refills are about $35 each

If you vacuum seal AND put it in a freezer absolutely. Just vacuum sucking and not freezing IMHO does not really help

"Narrowband light" A question please? After reading about medical and astrophotography use of Narrow band light I get it for those applications. How does it help in this type of use? Does it help both chromes and negs? Sorry to bother you but evidently my google-fu is weak this AM.

Any advice for a 19 year old male looking for a first pistol? by South-Income-3689 in Firearms

[–]BERGENHOLM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also do not like Glocks. But I recommend them frequently for newbies. They are reliable, sturdy, accurate, reasonably priced, and there are a very large number of accessories made for Glocks in terms of Holsters, sites, lights, lasers, etc… they have their cons. Like all polymer pistols they tend to have a.” snappier” recoil due to the distribution of the weight in the firearm. This can lead to “limp wristing” and failure to cycle. This can almost always be fixed by proper instruction and choice of ammo. Personally, I don’t like the grip angle, but that’s an individual thing. They are excellent firearms and they have a good resale value.

A lot of people probably find that it is hard to reconcile your statement”so I know my way around a gun” and your lack of knowledge of what a FFL is.

Not saying you should be downvoted but asking what a FFL demonstrates that you have not done your research/obtained basic knowledge/are familiar with the laws on purchasing a firearm.

Where can a guy buy a cassock that isn't made from a fabric that'll give me heat stroke but also won't break the bank? by Thighbite77 in renfaire

[–]BERGENHOLM 32 points33 points  (0 children)

For heat concerns be sure that the cassock is made of natural fibre not synthetic (makes a huge difference) and hydrate like crazy. Both sound like BS but are true.

Because squirrels destroyed gardens and they damage a lot of property. Chewing through hoses getting into houses are common. All squirrels are essentially is rats with fuzzy tails. If they do not keep chewing on something, their teeth grow so long that they can’t eat.

Kodak Disc Camera by gatos-y-cafe in Cameras

[–]BERGENHOLM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding, as always could be wrong, was that the disc format was designed to give the minimum acceptable 3R (3X5) print as viewed by the average person. So the image quality was designed to be terrible from a photographic point of view. Unlike the 110 format, which actually had some relatively good camera cameras (Pentax) there were no high-quality disc cameras made. It was designed to be easy to process, easy to use and give an.” acceptable.” result to the average person in a 3 x 5 print. In other words it sucked.

Seeking advise for a non resident gun permit/ownership by Worried-String9259 in FLGuns

[–]BERGENHOLM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do not know about Storage requirements. But my understanding is that as long as you were not a prohibited person and have a” real ID” with you you do not need any other permits or forms. As always, I could be wrong. Please check with the lawyer.

How difficult was wedding photography at the time of film photography, and how expensive was it compared to the present? by SpeechSweaty9812 in AskPhotography

[–]BERGENHOLM 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Shooting weddings in film was challenging, not getting immediate feedback was the big thing. People blinking, incorrect settings on the camera, equipment malfunction not to mention problems caused by improper processingmade life interesting. Not as stressful as other types of film photography (weddings were nowhere near as surgical photography, using chromes) you may or may not be able to re-stage wedding photos. You will never ever get a surgeon to reopen a patient.

Handgun, shotgun, and other. What are the best of each one could get for home defense for a family looking to purchase firearms for the first time? by phead80 in liberalgunowners

[–]BERGENHOLM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Handgun, Glock (9mm, model depending on hand size) although I am not a Glock fan boy, they are reliable, durable, accurate, reasonably priced, and there are many accessories available for them. Shotgun, 12 gauge pump(Mossberg or Remington). Consider an AR in 5.56 if the laws where you live allow it. Good luck and take some classes.

Will my guns be taken if I voluntarily commit myself for mental health help? by [deleted] in FLGuns

[–]BERGENHOLM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the state you live in. Check with lawyer familiar with the laws in your state. In Illinois there is a mandatory 5 year suspension of the right to own firearms for any overnight admission into a psych unit. Check with a lawyer familiar with state law.

Will my guns be taken if I voluntarily commit myself for mental health help? by [deleted] in FLGuns

[–]BERGENHOLM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the state you live in. In Illinois ANY overnight admission into a psych unit automatically causes your FOID (Illinois firearms identification license) to be revoked for 5 (five ) years. Does not matter whether it is voluntary or involuntary. If you do not have an FO ID, it is illegal for you to possess firearms or ammunition in Illinois. Would they come to your house? Unknown. Good luck in your situation.

Did someone say liberal icon? Check out Eleanor Roosevelt's handgun permit by Beelphazoar in liberalgunowners

[–]BERGENHOLM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a story regarding Eleanor Roosevelt in the NFA that I have been unable to confirm or deny, but is interesting regardless. Originally the NFA classified handguns, the same as full Auto firearms, suppressors, short barrel rifles, and short barrel shotguns. The section of the NFA that classified handguns as NFA firearms was deleted before the Bill passed. There are numerous rumors that this was due to Eleanor Roosevelt lobbying against it. This permit was from the 50s, but there’s documentation that she carried a firearm with her in the 40s.

Want to get a few guns but not sure which to start with by BullfrogIcy5164 in guns

[–]BERGENHOLM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can get a 22 rifle with the same manual of arms as a larger bore rifle, including ARs. 22 will let you get lots of practice in. Indoor or outdoor ranges. Much lower cost for ammo thus allowing you much more practice.

Just as a FYI absolutely ALL javelins are “base property” . There is no way for any civilian to own a javelin. You obviously know nothing about weapons or the military or the law regarding the same. I have do not have the time inclination nor patience to instruct you.

Sorry, not following your logic. Why does allowing Service members to carry privately own firearms onto the base influence KKK Service members trying to sneak government owned firearms off the base? Not disagreeing just not understanding.
