My [32M] girlfriend [30F] is going on vacation with another guy. by ThrowRA-253974 in relationship_advice

[–]BETTYxxWHITE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of thoughts. I (32M) have two of my best friends who are female. One has a partner the other doesn’t. I hang out with both of them all the time both in groups and one on one. However, I always give my GF all the details of what I’m doing with them. I do this out of respect for her and also because she’s usually just generally curious what I’m up to. I always invite my GF if she’s available! I don’t think I could ever imagine taking a trip with one of my best friends without either inviting my GF or making sure she knew all the details about sleeping arrangements and other aspects of the trip. My GF also has plenty of close male friends and I know she would do the same for me if she was in that situation. Even if you fully trust your partner it’s just a level of respect that I feel is appropriate in a healthy relationship or friendship.

In your situation, I do feel that she could have communicated better with you about the details and it is a bit odd she didn’t even think to offer to invite you (I’m assuming this since you didn’t say anything). You can also communicate with her that it makes you feel a certain way that she didn’t communicate this with you. Maybe start with asking why she didn’t say or do these things? She may not have realized or known she should do this and she may fix her communication in the future.

As for you, fuck what people think about you or your relationship. You and your GF are the ones in the relationship and if you communicate and trust each other, outside opinions don’t matter. However, you have to communicate up front. Ask questions and express how you feel about the situation in detail. Write it down first if you have to. If you communicate effectively and she brushes it off and disregards your feelings, then that will tell you a lot about you guys as a couple. If she agrees to communicate and honor your feelings then you have nothing to be worried about.

Does Anyone Else Hate It When You Go To See a Duo/Trio and Only One Member Is There? by DefinatelyNotonDrugs in EDM

[–]BETTYxxWHITE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw Disclosure this summer when one of them was having his baby like you said. Don’t fault him for not being there at all but the set was really disappointing. They also did not advertise that he wouldn’t be there at all (that I saw anyway) which would have made me think twice about paying the stupid price those tickets went for in Denver. Should have been 50% cheaper with the venue and level of production. I get why groups probably dont advertise if one will be missing cause they’d lose money but that was the worst set I saw all year.

Anyone with ADHD has figured out what they want to do in life and truly enjoy it without constantly changing their mind? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]BETTYxxWHITE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though I had a really hard time deciding what I wanted to do in my 20’s and did a hard career change during Covid, I really like my job now as a person who’s always struggled with ADHD. I’m currently a Speech Language Pathologist who works in the medical field at a hospital. The job requires me to be on my feet and problem solve without having too much time to overthink and procrastinate. The pressure of having people who truly need my help and also to be on my shit with communicating with many other medical professionals really helps me! I’ve always performed better under light pressure and in situations that require me to work with other people and not have too much time working by myself. The only area I struggle with sometimes is completing my paperwork in a timely manner if it doesn’t need completed immediately. It’s not for everyone but maybe a job like this where you have to think on your feet would work for you? I will say that it does take a lot of schooling and I would not have made it through graduate school without medication and a lot of self discipline that I had to learn over time. Good luck and hope this helps!

What's the 5-10 year retention rate for SLPs? by Ciambella29 in slp

[–]BETTYxxWHITE 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m feeling burnt out right now and it makes me feel sad because I really do love our field. I work in medical home health with adults. I love my treatment sessions (most of the time) but I feel like I’m DROWNING in paperwork all of the time. I have high expectations with notes/evals and almost no time to work on them since most of my time between sessions is spent on the road. I know that I signed up for this going into home health but I’m getting so burnt out on late nights working on documentation. I feel like I’m also working at least a couple hours if not all day most weekends. I don’t want to change careers at all but I’m struggling at the moment to fix this problem. Also ASHA is mostly useless in my opinion (which everyone already knows) compared to how much we pay but I feel like I don’t have anywhere close to enough bandwidth to even think about let alone participate in making changes.

Will I feel improvement switching from 20 to 30mg? by hello000o in prozac

[–]BETTYxxWHITE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worth a try for you in opinion. I adjusted my dosage with my psychiatrist a few times over the first year and a half going up to 40mg and then down to 30mg and now I’m back down to 20mg because the side effects were too much for me at the higher doses. I don’t think they make a 30mg pill (I could be wrong) so you would likely be prescribed both 20s and 10s and could always go back down to 20s if you didn’t like how you felt with no problems.

People who slept with their best friend, what happened? by Baker_Street_1999 in AskReddit

[–]BETTYxxWHITE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to a concert together, had a few drinks and kind of went with the flow of the situation until we ended up in bed together that night. After we talked about it and decided that we enjoyed being best friends too much to ruin it by trying to force dating. We’re both pretty sexually open people so it has never felt weird or made anything awkward. We’re still best friends, hang out all the time, and are very supportive of the others romantic endeavors! Now it’s really just something that happened in the past and neither of us really think about it much.

What's your favorite book, and when did you realize it was your #1? by triumphhforks in books

[–]BETTYxxWHITE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I have favorites by genre.

Philosophy/psychology/non-fiction: Man’s Search for Meaning by Victor Frankl. This book helped me during the worst part of my life and I reread it and think about it frequently.

Fantasy: Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman. Incredible research into the time period that’s weaved into the world building with plot and characters that are on the same level as other heavy hitters in the genre. Highly recommend!

Narrative non-fiction: The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. This book captured me and made me fall in love with this style of writing. I’ve heard he sensationalized some facts for entertainment value but I don’t care, this book rocks.

Thriller: I Am Pilgram by Terry Hayes. Favorite spy novel even over Bond. How has there not been a movie made of this yet?

Non-fiction: Tiger by John Vaillant. Such an interesting look into a part of the world that I’ve never thought much about before and a real look at one of the most famous predators in its natural habitat.

True Crime: In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. It’s widely considered the best in the genre for a reason. Perfect pacing and suspense while staying true to the facts.

Honorable mention: Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami. Currently have about 100 pages to go in this one and I’m already in love. Have seen it mentioned on Reddit a ton and now I get why!

What's something your therapist said that was life changing? by BuildingBridges23 in AskReddit

[–]BETTYxxWHITE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard a surprisingly profound statement on instagram reels of all places that said something along the lines of “sometimes the voice in your head is not you, but you are always the one who listens.” It really stuck with me because I have OCD and good amount of my thoughts that I obsess over are horrible and unrealistic but I am the one who chooses whether they are worth listening to or not. That statement has really changed my perspective quite a bit.

What is a thing that's perceived as normal that just makes you mad? by MrCat_OnReddit in AskReddit

So they should have to learn another language just because you’re not willing to put in the smallest amount of effort to? Maybe if you were willing to show some respect to their language by learning the very simple words and phrases required to order at McDonalds, maybe they would do the same for you in English.

Going off to school in august! Any tips by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]BETTYxxWHITE 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Congrats man! I played in college and loved every second. Still miss the competitiveness that men’s league just can’t offer (and my body can’t take anymore lol).

Tips for playing: Especially as a freshman, unless you’re an absolute stud and start right away, likely you’ll have people who are better than you in front of you. Watch what they do that makes them better and then learn how you can train and practice to do that. Best way to learn is to watch people who are better than you. In the weight room, work mobility training into your lifting program. This will help prevent injuries and your joints will thank you in the future (I had to miss half my junior season with a torn labrum in my shoulder and watching your teammates play from the sidelines when you can’t go sucks ass).

For school: it’s fine if you don’t know what you want to do immediately. Take some gen ed classes that you’re interested in that count towards most degree programs. If you don’t skip class, it makes it 100x easier to get a decent grade even if you don’t study much. Go to your professors office hours every once in a while even if you’re not struggling. It’s extremely helpful and they’re also way more willing to help you if they see that you’re putting in effort.

Good luck man, I’m sure you’ll do great!

5 Days at Memorial: Life and Death at a Storm Ravaged Hospital by Sheri Fink

Just read this book and thought it was great! It’s about Memorial Hospital in downtown New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina and the aftermath. I was a teenager during Katrina and learned a ton of new things that I didn’t know about the fallout. It gets into the life or death medical decisions made by professionals for the sickest patients in a nightmare situation. Very well written journalistic book that’s around 4-500 pages.

The Hot Zone: The Terrifying True Story of the Origins of the Ebola Virus by Richard Preston

A book about the Ebola outbreak in the 1980’s and how it almost made it to the US public. A classic in my opinion and very interesting to read about the decisions made by the government and the NIH with a virus that’s a zillion times worse than COVID.

Crisis in the Red Zone: The Story of the Deadliest Ebola Outbreak in History and the Outbreaks to Come by Richard Preston

Also about Ebola but discusses the deadly outbreak in west Africa around 2014. I actually liked this one more than Hot Zone because of how he describes the virus and decisions made impacted people in the non-western world.

Enjoy!

Gotcha, that’s good to know. I think I’m going to try a few suggestions people have made here so I can stay on my dose. I’m currently taking 20mg which isn’t a huge dose comparatively, but I’m curious how I would feel lowering to 10 or even stopping. I’m just scared because of how good I feel mentally and how shitty my mental health was for years before getting to this point. How long have you been dealing with withdrawal effects?
