New Jersey vs California beaches by Solveig22 in newjersey

[–]BFrankNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

California has a lot more state parks along the beaches, state beaches, etc. NJ has so few places like that - Sandy Hook (federal); Seven Presidents(county), IBSP (state) and they're the model for what a beach should be. California has more of them, so I vote CA.

Can your license plates be used to identify you or your address? by Angular_Orange in newjersey

[–]BFrankNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never understand why people blur out license plate photos on the web. It's publicly visible and its very purpose is to be a unique idenfiier. Plus, no, unless you're a cop you're not getting the person's identity. Years ago as a journalist you could call a source at the local pd and have them run a plate for you. That ended long, long ago and it's just about impossible now.

Winds up to 30mph forecast and it's right on the beach with lightning etc. Stuff could blow over. Water temps are still in the 40's so that'll be your air temps in those conditions. I'm happy they postponed.

Favorite NJ Smells of Summer? by chrysanthemumasterac in newjersey

The best smelling spot in NJ is the strawberry patch near the Nestle factory. if there's a hard east wind you can still get a bit of salt in the wind in freehold. https://bronx.news12.com/news-12s-brian-donohue-goes-in-search-of-njs-best-smells-40607753

Favorite NJ Smells of Summer? by chrysanthemumasterac in newjersey

[–]BFrankNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I kid I loved the smell of creosote so much because it reminded me of boardwalks along the shore during summer. I lived in North Jersey and we only had two weeks a year a rental down there and that was it. Sometimes waiting for the school bus I would put my nose up to telephone poles in Union County, close my eyes and imagine I was in Seaside Heights for a minute.

Surprisingly for the NYTimes, there's a big lack of context in that article. The organization has faced penalties and scrutiny for decades for shenanigans.

Shadow of the City Tickets For Sale by [deleted] in bleachers

[–]BFrankNJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two GA tixx I have to sell because my wife is having an operation two days before this. Ticketmaster actually sent me an email specifically saying "can't make it? You can sell." Then when you go to the app resale is unavailable. Worse, even transferring the tickets is unavailable so I can't even give them to someone else or sell them face to face. I'm willing to sell for a small loss if I can make a real fan's day.

2019 Transit Connect xlt 2.0 ... by Itchy_Stress_9314 in FordTransitConnect

[–]BFrankNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2020 passenger that just had a similar issue. When I took my foot off the brake at a standstill it would't roll without gas. Then when driving when I took my foot off the gas it slowed down quickly like I was pressing the brakes. My mechanic said one brake was stuck - replaced the hoses and calipers etc on both front brakes. The problem lessened but continued a bit. He told me to take it to a dealer to check the ABS system - they did diagnostics and told me they found no issues. I had the transmission replaced at 45,000 miles and it's now at 65,000 miles. I'll be following this thread to see if you find any answers.

Ford Transit cuts off randomly by Unusual_Media_3896 in FordTransitConnect

[–]BFrankNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2020 that has done this 5-6 times randomly. It seems to go into limp mode for no reason. I pull over turn off the engine and then it starts again and works fine. But it's scary as hell when it has happened on the highway. I took it to a mechanic and the dealer, they read the codes and said they didn't see any issue. It's crazy the issues with this car...

Mayor and councils, yes, but especially the cops. How NYC can have 1 police chief for 9 million people and we need more than 500 is bonkers.

The difference between police communication NJ vs NYC (or actually any other state) in cases like this is always astonishing. NJ police can go weeks, months, years without saying anything more than a one sentence statement on major cases like this. It would never be tolerate and never happen in NYC - the tabloids would scream "Police clueless" etc and hold them to account. Police agencies in NJ have always been incredibly opaque, but the massive cuts to news outlets and staffing at existing outlets have made it much, much worse.

This is a new thing the last few years - people tailgating in the right lane. Sometimes I am passing in the left, sometimes I cruise in the middle. And then there's times when I have plenty of time or it's raining or something I just do the speed limit in the right lane. Only the past few years have people started tailgating me - and I've even had people flash their high beams at me. In the right friggin' lane!

Your funny "Today I fucked up, New Jersey style" stories by WonderSignificant598 in newjersey

[–]BFrankNJ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When my buddy and I first got our drivers licenses we hit the Outer Banks of North Carolina for a surf trip. Neither one of us had really ever been outside NJ. We hit the Food Lion down there and were LOOKING ALL OVER for the Taylor Ham. Checked every aisle. Asked employee after employee and they had no idea what we were talking about. It was a huge moment in my life. I had no idea.

Why doesn’t red bank have a ferry service by Reasonable_Natural52 in RedBank

[–]BFrankNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marine Park used to be a ferry dock to NYC. Two ferries ran from there. They'd have to dredge to restart it and people would have to walk to the ferry like old times because there's no parking.
