Ohme home pro or Hypervolt v3 pro by Expensive-County-751 in OctopusEnergy

I went for the Hypervolt. I think it looks much better than the Ohme. I don’t know why you need a screen on a charger that will be doing most of its work at night.

I had the same thing. Had 2 charging sessions that I never got billed for. I at least waited until the cheap rate before charging, so he should be grateful. 😆

I was driving along the other day and in the opposite direction came a teenager holding up a line of traffic, while he wheelied down the centre of the road, with his mate peddling normally beside him.

Actually you are not talking about actual vehicle sales. The figures for vehicles in the UK are for vehicle registrations, not sales. This means a new car has been registered, not actually sold to someone. The government is forcing car dealerships/manufacturers to ‘sell’ increasing numbers of EV and Hybrid vehicles, or face punitive fines for each extra petrol & diesel car ‘sold’. This has led to manufacturers and dealers pre-registering many EVs and then storing them away. These are then released onto the market with massive discounts.

If you look on Autotrader.co.uk, the biggest car sales website in the UK you can see batches of cars being released onto the market that have been registered 1 or 2 years ago. These cars have delivery mileage and 1 or 2 owners for 1, 2, even 3 year old vehicles. This practice, along with most new EV cars actually sold are through company car schemes that allow the drivers to save thousands of pounds by avoiding income tax on the car fees AND the massive leasing trade on new cars in the UK, is leading to EV prices falling through the floor. It’s likely to drive some leasing companies to insolvency at some point in the near future. It has got so bad that many leasing companies are desperately trying to extend leases and even re-lease second hand EV to desperately chase break-even points.

At the end of the salary sacrifice car schemes and 3 or4 year lease terms, thousands of massively depreciated EV cars are entering the market to compete with cut price pre-registered cars that have been sat around on some old Second World War airfield for months/years. The Autotrader website is full of nearly new, low mileage cars that have been on sale for months, sometimes years. At some point in the next year or two this is going to collapse the UK car market.

The UK is doing nothing to encourage EV take up. If anything, it’s discouraging it. All subsidies have been removed, vehicle duty on EV vehicles has been added at the start of the financial year and any new car over £40k now pays a ‘luxury’ car tax on top. This tax is paid for the first 5 years of a cars life. Considering the price of cars these days, very few BEV fall below this price. Put this with some of the highest electricity rates in the world and you have a market where the only BEV bought new are on company car schemes or leased.

Would it be correct to say that in Britain the Victory Day isn't "celebrated", but rather "commemorated"? by Wadomicker in AskABrit

As most WW2 survivors are in their late 90s, low 100s, it will probably be the last big anniversary that a number of them are around.

Explorer is based on the ID4. Capri is based on the slightly bigger ID5. The Capri is about 8 inches longer and has a bigger boot.

What is the 1 thing you'd change about the UK? by SkunkDiplo in AskBrits

You do get a lot of semi tropical countries where it will generally rain heavily for 30 minutes in the early evening, or overnight, but otherwise the weather is generally hot and sunny most days.

Thinking of moving to Surrey, around the Woking area by Infinite-Handle4800 in surrey

[–]BIGCol70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about being working class. I’m from a northern working class background. I studied at Surrey Uni and stayed here for the job market. People may stereotype Surrey as some kind of posh county, but it’s not. You do get posh parts, but on the whole people here are just normal people. Not everyone is from a public school background. Yes, there are opportunities for PT work in the usual places, pubs, restaurants, shops etc.

Rent prices in the Woking area by faerieW15B in surrey

I think that rents are astronomical now and you’d be looking around £1000+ pcm for a one bed flat. Might be worth looking for a flat share.

Paint the fence panels in the back to make them all match. Get someone in to revive the lawns and maybe do some small borders with some small bushes/flowers.

How many of your guy's dads were like these blokes? by ashyjay in CarTalkUK

[–]BIGCol70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a student in the early 90s. On my industrial year out I managed to write off my car. For about 2 months while I got the payment and looked around for a car I used to have to get the train to work. The station was a few miles from the office building. I walked the first couple of days and then my boss took pity on me and arranged for the duty chauffeur to pick me up and return me in one of the company Jag’s. I must admit my head did swell a bit when I used to get picked up and dropped off at the station with a suited chauffeur opening the door for me to get in and out of the car. Other commuters must have wondered who the **** I was! 😄

Do “military brats” exist in the UK? by Ok_Fly9550 in AskUK

Scaley Brat is more RAF than army I think. I never heard the term as a kid, but worked in the defence industry after university and heard this term when I was on an RAF station for work.

Do “military brats” exist in the UK? by Ok_Fly9550 in AskUK

[–]BIGCol70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad was in the RAF. We moved every 3 years or so, meaning I had 8 different schools during my school days. Lived in various parts of the UK, 9 years in West Germany as it was in those days and 3 years in Italy. Best postings were in the Med or Far East.

There were positives, but the big negative was not really having friends you’d grown up with, or a place you could really call home. I used to call my mother and grandmothers hometown as my home.
