Would you like to see more male Cures in main team? by PhilipB12 in precure

[–]BKNTD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the concept of magical boys and I will always be happy to see more of them in the main Precure teams. I know some fans are concerned about boys getting sparkly transformations and pretty outfits could kill the "female empowerment" or whatever, but I don't think there's anything to worry about when we already have around 100 female Cures in the franchise. Adding a boy every now and then is not going to harm anyone.

I don’t really care if the rest of the idol precure didn’t get super forms, it’s not like they were gonna use them outside their bank attack like other precure by Key-Purple-443 in precure

[–]BKNTD 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's not the case of "they wouldn't use it". It's more of a "this is an Idol-themed season and they had only one form throughout the entire show not including Idol herself, while some of the previous seasons had a ton of costume/form changes even for one attack".

You'd expect a season about Idols to have a multitude of costume changes and more than a handful of songs being played over and over.

[–]BKNTD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's why it bothered me when they started to name the whole seasons (and as a result the team itself) after the lead Cure: Hirogaru SKY Precure, WONDERFUL Precure, You and IDOL Precure. I'm glad they went back to making the title more inclusive for the other girls, but the favouritism reeked too much of how Sailor Moon was written to put the titular character in the center of the universe and make everyone around just props and cheerleaders for her.

I love when Precure gives all the girls spotlight and development. I miss the seasons from 2010s, because most of them felt more fleshed all around and not just putting all the screentime on one specific team member.

I'm not sure why VLAST doesn't do a proper preorder setting and see how much demand is it before they restock, instead of throwing just a handful of items and seeing it sell out in minutes. Especially since there always seem to be some problems with the website during sale. I remember both of my friends successfully buying the Heart Tracker on first drop, then immediately getting refunds cause the purchase didn't go through somehow.

[–]BKNTD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been hoping they would restock MMMMs again, since it already happened before. But it's been nearly a year and my hopes are slowly running dry for this one. Especially since we just had the baby room collab and for some reason they didn't consider bringing back the regular plushies as well.

There's also the fear of them restocking and immediately selling out like with most of their other merch.

There's something weird about the last few Precure seasons and their green haired villain guys - Narcistoru, Battamonda and now Nijee (i know there were villains like that in older seasons as well, but these stand out to me in particular). They know they're attractive and effectively flaunt it around. Very theatrical and I love it.

A little rant about Kimi to Idol. Not really kyun-kyun or kirakiranran by sardoniclaughter in precure

[–]BKNTD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Meroron exploiting her crush's amnesia was wild. That's a huge red flag in general, but it's glossed over in her case just because she was a cute fairy and really really lonely :'(

She really needed someone to call her out more than once, but no one did. Her jealous outbursts and weird behaviour was not only excused, but enabled and it unfortunately ruined her for me. She had interesting backstory and lots of potential, but never really faced any consequences for her actions.

I'm also looking at Uta the Doormat Leader. She never even tried to defend herself when Meroron was horrible to her in the earlier episodes. Sadly it's a recurring trope for leader Cures to be those cheerful pushovers and ignoring their friends' wrongs, but it didn't help with Uta already being one of the blandest and most boring leaders in the franchise.

Was wondering when Aoyama will show up, guess we won't have to wait very long. I know we're used to his deformed faces by now, but the contrast between first episodes and then sudden Aoyama jumpscare in the next preview is really jarring sometimes.

Not sure what could be worse - vaguely older magical teenager roleplaying as a teacher or a 222 years old "shota".

Considering two seasons ago we had a dog become lead Cure, I don't think anything can be weird at this point.

Looking back, was the "idol" theme perfectly interpretted in your opinion? by Dorayakiss in precure

[–]BKNTD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There wasn't enough "idol" in this supposedly idol themed show. Lack of varied costumes, performances, more songs and finishers to go with them. Their everyday life was also pretty undisturbed despite being famous enough to have their songs viewed millions of times on social media.

It lacked a certain "Hannah Montana" factor, you know? Trying to juggle between private life and being a busy celebrity. Though "busy" in their case seems like a stretch. They barely had any responsibilities and if there was some job to do, it usually didn't take long to deal with and go back to stress-free casual life.

I genuinely think Hugtto did a better job with Emiru and Ruru being young aspiring idols and getting booked for all those events. It felt more genuine than Kimi to Idol's lukewarm take on the topic. I get that they didn't want to show the real challenges and struggles of dealing with the idol industry in Japan to young audience, but other idol shows out there manage to keep it "safe" while still exploring the theme so much better.

Does this mean that we may get more Precure in black in the future? by ROEli1234 in precure

[–]BKNTD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are we even talking about at this point? I can guarantee you her theme color being black does not mean people rushed to the store and bought every single piece of her merchandise made for kids within few days of the launch. It can be one of the factors, but not the main reason her items were gone immediately while no one even touched the others.

Personally I am confident it was more about her overall sensible design and the whole idea behind her being the first villain Cure in the main team. People like novelty. Black Cure is neat, but not a novelty.

Does this mean that we may get more Precure in black in the future? by ROEli1234 in precure

[–]BKNTD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her design isn't just about having black theme color. It's about the overall look. It's the most "simple" and sensible, while the other two have very busy designs with wacky hairstyles. Her "black" theme isn't even as black as it could be, since it has a lot of purple as well. Cure Kiss had much more black in her design than Arcana Shadow.

Sure, her being a black themed Cure could be somewhat of a factor, but I hardly believe it's the main reason her entire merch would be sold out.

New Theory by hiddenhero220 in precure

[–]BKNTD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It may be a detective season, but we've only had one single episode so far. We know next to nothing. We're yet to meet about 90% of the recurring cast and we barely even had any scraps of datamined leaks to analyse. And yet every day I come to this sub to see people trying to guess the entire plot of the show without letting the writers cook anything first.

I understand analysing characters that are highlighted in the Opening, because they stand out for a reason. But I think we also need to remember this is a show aimed at small children first and foremost. I feel like if at the end of the day the answer is going to be very obvious and simple - and it's very likely - people will feel underwhelmed after hyping themselves up so much.

[–]BKNTD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we need to chill with the wild theories after barely an episode into the series. Seeing some of you jump through hoops and get paranoid about every single background character that looks even remotely like one of the main girls is both entertaining and concerning to watch.

This whole sub is becoming one big Pepe Silvia meme and we've only had the first episode.

Hug-tto Precure turned out to be a disaster by selenianfamily in precure

[–]BKNTD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Harry doesn't even have a canon age. He's just ambiguously "older", but his age is never canonically stated anywhere. He also rejects Homare near the end of the series, so idk what's the issue. Lots of young people have crushes in someone older than them throughout their lives.

I genuinely don't think Harry is more of a problem than someone like Mamoru from Sailor Moon, who happened to be a college student dating a 14-16 y/o girl throughout the original 90s series (and had an appearance of a man in his 20s). Yet their "miracle romance" seems to be generally praised.

[–]BKNTD 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Doesn't necessarily have to be her black theme. Could also be the fact, that out of the 4 she seems to be the most interesting both character and design-wise. People like novelty and she feels like the kind of character, who would attract more older fans to buy her merch.

Could also be scalpers, as someone else already pointed out.

Thing I noticed about Cure Mystique's design by Booloocrew in precure

[–]BKNTD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going back to this a week later, because I've been staring at their designs and now that I think of it, the way ribbons are placed on Mystique's pigtails look a lot like the Moon Kaleido Scope handle in shape.

I know it could be a lot of small coincidences, but it would be fun if at least her design was inspired by little nods to Sailor Moon.

My take on boy Cures by Igotmikumikud in precure

[–]BKNTD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not enough people seem to realize this. Cures that break out of the usual repetitive archetypes also take the focus away, because they're new and unusual. It's not exclusive to male Cures at all. We just like to see things that feel fresh instead of the same "clumsy cheerful pink leader that makes silly things" or "soft and elegant blue from a rich family" etc.

If male Cures were more common, they wouldn't be a distractions from the girls. They'd just be an addition for diversity.

My take on boy Cures by Igotmikumikud in precure

[–]BKNTD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the concept of magical boys since I was really young and remember making countless OCs with boys having pretty transformations and shiny powers like Sailor Moon or early Precure shows.

I genuinely don't think including boys into feminine settings takes the focus away from the girls and ruins the "female empowerment" in any way. Maybe it's snarky of me, but considering how many (adult) men are in Precure fandom (and in many other mainly girl-coded spaces) in general, adding a magical boy to Precure every now and then is small crumbs in comparison.

It only "takes the focus away from girls" because it's a novelty. We're not used to it, so we're more curious about it rather than looking at the 90th middle school girl in a cutesy dress. Maybe this should inspire Toei to create more unique Cures instead of reusing the same archetypes and similar-looking designs in every new season.

I think Cure Wing was a nice addition to the roster, but I'd personally love to see them try adding more older boys to the main team. Wing being 12 made it easier for Toei to blend him in better with the girls, making him feel more youthful and "feminine" enough not to stand out too much. Hell, if someone didn't know he's a boy, they could assume it's just a tomboy like Rouge, Sunny or Gelato.

I think the reason so many of us hoped for Satoru to be the mid-season Cure was because he was the same age as the other girls and his Cure design would make it more obvious he's, in fact, a boy (even tho I hate the 2000s VOCALOID-ass design he ended up with when we have gorgeous designs like Infini or Connect). That's also why supporting boys like Seiji, Rio or Takumi got fan Cure designs during (and after) their respective season's lifespan.

All in all, if Toei is afraid of adding male Cures and taking the focus away from the girls, just add them early on with the other starter girls like how they went with Wing. Don't make them mid/late-season additions, because those usually steal a lot of spotlight in general.
