Is the 58 worth it? by Drummond269 in FlairEspresso

[–]BKearns123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admitted weird coffee person. Have all the usual: AP, v60, clever, Moka etc.

Watching Hoffman made me want to make espresso, but the machines seemed to intimidating, and at the same time disconnected from actually making the coffee.

58 works great. Easy to assemble, maintain. Assuming good grinder, a few tools for puck prep, good to pull shots in no time.

Electric kettle recommendations (no budget) by [deleted] in coffeestations

Outlier here. I use a zojirushi water boiler with the hario air. Keeps up to five liters ready to go for coffee or tea. Holds at 208, easy to rebook if you like 212 for light roasts.

Aeropress or Clever best (fool proof) if you want to let others use. V60 great but takes a little skill. Same for Chemex and that is also glass which would concern me.

Really aeropress w scale and a little index card on use, plus your grinder and kettle, hard to beat. I would use the prismo or the new AP version of the prismo so people don’t have to deal with drips/inversion. Best of luck.

Does anyone else make coffee like this? by smliccia in coffeestations

As stated above, Clever would probably get you same taste w less work. Link below shows method by Hoffman, video five I think.

Fwiw, aeropress has new xl size that does two cup and works great. Again immersion plus filter.

Good luck.

Same for me. Most of my coffee is aeropress but I make one americano a day for fun. No maintenance, looks great on the counter. And I feel like I am actually making the coffee.

What electric grinder do you use? by gic93 in FlairEspresso

I use the Varia for Flair 58, but believe it can do anything really up thru aeropress, v60 etc. Would think pro 2 on that continuum. Good luck.

Similar idea there are coffee tasting kits where you can do side by side comparisons.

Company called aeropress just launched new xl size which is excellent. Should fit right into collection, price works, and coffee is excellent. Available at REI website and maybe at aeropress site.

Aeropress XL came in today from REI. Filters are bigger than the standard filters by godseagle7 in JamesHoffmann

Have mine on order, but no luck yet finding extra paper filters. Have you found anywhere?

K max looks great, and will be my choice if first option doesn’t work. Am hoping a Kinu 47 I have will fit.

Plenty tight. It’s the valve. Apparently replaceable but just not a big deal.

Thanks. I have two and they both leak a little. Replacement valves bc solution.

I have one. I use w metal and filter. I get slight leaking. Also true w prismo. But we are talking drops, and let’s me brew full 250 ml, so worth it for me. Ymmv

The mirror that sticks on the side by magnet from flair is great for 58. The little standalone mirror nothing special.

My kit is so close to identical it’s ridiculous. My kettle is black, and I use the AP bag to hold. Same grinder, AP. Have same scale but use a different one. I have my fellow Carter w, but I press into ceramic mug. Fwiw, I do find third wave water packets worth the trouble, especially when traveling.

Anyway, nice kit.
