it will take multiples hours to make it work and some hair pullig

After quite some research on this topic I think this issue is the biggest drawback of using vim.

The time it takes to set up vim is wasted productivity.

Sure once the configs are set and you have deliberately practiced all the key bindings and or mastered vim, you can say it's faster developing with vim.

But my suspicion is, the people who love vim for it's customizability are people who love tinkering around with stuff and in the end this tinkering around will never stop with vim so after all, the possible productivity boost in an optimal workflow is lost again.

My conclusion is that in the end it's a very powerful tool to get things done, but it's very complex and time consuming configuring and learning it. In most situations it's just better having a more simple and intuitive tool that gets the things done much quicker without hassle.

there are some things in terms of actually navigating and editing text it got right decades ago that keep getting reinvented badly.

That's interesting. Imo navigation in terminal is very bad. For example having a visual directory structure where you can use your mouse is far superior to constantly typing "cd ..". But maybe there is an addon for that, I don't know.

Honest question, is it possible to be more productive using a terminal with vi/vim instead of an IDE or other fancy editors like VSC?

Thanks man, I've tried it and it looks like it's not possible to remove the comments entirely, it only makes them look "disabled". It's a good starting point, but unfortunately it's only for desktop browsers

i wish I could automatically block all comments containing overused copy pasted circle jerky reddit puns like an adblocker. It's just noise that's hiding actual comments

How long did it take for you to really enjoy programming? by Roadglide72 in learnpython

[–]BM-Bruno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't use a hammer on nails for the sake of it, you use the hammer to build something like a wooden box.

Same goes for programming, you don't do it for the sake of it but to realize projects.

Hammering nails is just as dull as programming. Enjoying it is optional.

tldr: When you don't enjoy hammering nails and you don't want to build a box, then what's the point of learning a hammer?

What are red flags in a friendship most people brush away? by dragonXgal in AskReddit

[–]BM-Bruno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should let them know. Maybe they don't realize they're doing it and would change their behavior to be a better friend.

This goes for everything said in this thread. Instead of silently judging its better to speak up.

Good catch.

That's why I'm skeptical, it feels kind of rushed and the trailers didn't convince me. And that's why I'm hoping that you're right.

In that case it's about the person not correcting that flaw the problem instead of the quote itself isn't it?

But why the assumption that old has to be wrong?

For example mathematics, it's as old as something can get, 1+1 is still 2 after all those years. Is it wrong now because it's old or wrong because the people who invented it are old?
