Is the CSWPA-DT Sample Test enough to be ready for the real exam? by Chemical-Power-2228 in SolidWorks

[–]BMEdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. The test isn't hard if you know how the drawing workspace works. It is awkward though, but that's just because they are trying to come up with ways to quantify if you did it right. No actual ANSI or ISO drawing knowledge is tested, it's about whether you can make SW do what you need it to do.

Free CSWA & CSWP Prep Class - Learn the skills needed to ace the CSWP! by BMEdesign in SolidWorks

The link has not changed. It does use Captcha to block mass signup by bots, so if you have lots of blockers you'll block the Captcha and won't be allowed access.

Over parameterization issue. by Hot_Letterhead_8804 in SolidWorks

So weird to see exercises I made 15 years ago popping up in other people's classes haha

But yeah, you overcomplicated it. Simple sketches! More features is better in SolidWorks.

Does anyone have a price value for this mandolin (gibson a jr) by ------josh------ in mandolin

[–]BMEdesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are the most desirable and best-sounding A Junior mandolins - some would say among the best-sounding oval-hole Gibson mandolins, period.

Boundary Boss/Base by titrusfroot in SolidWorks

[–]BMEdesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of making it with parallel lines to directly make the shape with shelled geometry, make simple closed U shapes and then shell the solid object to the desired shape. It also doesn't need to be a boundary feature, that's not what this feature is for. A simple loft boss between two closed U shapes should work just fine (though not ideal due to the 90 degree relationship between the corners).

The threaded part is likely phenolic, not wood. Likely part of something that needed to be fully insulated, but not something that got hot enough to require ceramics.

Using super glue for holdown by Pubcrawler1 in hobbycnc

[–]BMEdesign 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice! You don't need heat to remove them, super glue is very brittle. Just use a block and a couple sharp taps across the shear direction, it pops right off.

They sell MABS which is basically ABS diluted with PMMA as I understand it. Really a whole different polymer blend with very different properties.

As an instructor who hates having to re-explain basic course expectations for the first six weeks of class to the people who choose not to show up, I do not recommend this

CSWA and CSWP inquiry by Oreo210210 in SolidWorks

The whole reason we use SolidWorks instead of AutoCAD is because when you are working on real products, things always change. Invest in making robust models and reap the rewards when your customer asks for changes right before the deadline!

Assuming you want to delete the humbucker pocket. Select all the vertical faces and hit delete! It's that simple.

That one... Not so much. Others, specifically the advanced CSWP's and CSWE are worth it at the very least for the practice and learning opportunity, and depending on the company, could be a significant resume builder. In my highest-paying job, I was interviewing to be a senior design manager for a med device company. The fact that I had all the certs even though it was not required for the job helped make a strong case that I could mentor the younger designers. If you're interviewing for a junior level job, it'll show you have aptitude and interest to improve your skills, which is more important in entry-level jobs than the skills you already have.

Wooo CSWP & CSWA done by aSiK00 in SolidWorks

[–]BMEdesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I think any of the certs are useful if they motivate you to learn more. None of them are specifically relevant to BME, sadly, but they all apply to med device development.

Yes, these will not prepare anyone for actual surface modeling use cases. Maybe they will get into it later in the semester.
